Tain, Kemnay and Crail's Craighead Links are set to add to their reputations when they stage Scottish Ladies' Golfing Association Championships this season.

Tain will host the Scottish Ladies' Amateur Championship in May, Craighead is the venue for the Scottish Girls' Championship in July and Kemnay will stage its first SLGA tournament with the Senior Ladies' Championship, also in July.

In addition, Strathmore, a very pro-active girls' club, stages the Under-16 Championship for a third year in a row in April, Troon will again welcome a world-class field to the Helen Holm Scottish Open Strokeplay Championship in April and Blairgowrie's Lansdowne course, a regular venue for national events, will provide a great test for the Scottish Junior Open Strokeplay Championship in July.

Tain, one of Scotland's oldest courses, has held a Scottish Girls' Championship, but this is the first time that it has been honored with the Scottish Ladies' Championship.

The SLGA AGM took place yesterday Saturday 28th 2012, at the Dewars Centre in Perth.

The meeting started on a sombre note as out-going President, Emma Wilson, asked for a moment's silence to remember three stalwarts of the Scottish women's game who died within the last year. They were past British Champion and Curtis Cup player Moira Milton, past Vet's Captain and President Liz Miskimmin and Scottish Senior Internationalist Moira Thomson.

SLGA's Chairman Shona Malcolm then gave an informative annual report which was followed by the Finance Director Lynne Terry's detailed accounts annual review. The annual report of the Scottish representatives on the Executive Council of the LGU was then given by Lorna Bennett.

Margaret MacNaughton was elected as the new President and Renfrewshire's Wendy Cameron and Rosemary Dykes, Lanarkshire's Jean Cameron, D&A's Belle Robertson and Ayrshire's Nancy Chisholm were all re elected as one of the 12 Vice Presidents.

RLCGA's Past Captain Beth Paterson retired after serving 4 years on the board as Performance Director and is replaced by Isabel Crawford who was elected to the board. D&A's Past Captain Fiona Cowan remains on the board.
Lynne Terry steps down as Finance Director after 10 years service - As will the company Secretary Sheila Hartley who retires in February.
Kevin Craggs was reappointed as the Scottish Representative on the Training Panel of the LGU and Dr Lynne Terry and June McEwan were reappointed as the Scottish Representatives on CONGU.

The new Scottish Selectors were appointed - Noreen Fenton (East) and past Renfrewshire County player Addi Shamash (South).
Anne Laing (West Division) and Cara Gruber (North Division) remain as Selectors for their second year.
Isabel Crawford was reappointed as the Scottish Repesentative on the International Selection Committee of the LGU and her deputy Fiona de Vries who also was appointed onto the International Selection Committee of the LGU.
The Annual Membership Subscription for the SLGA remained at £14.
There was no further discussion on amalgamation with the SGU as further talks are in progress. The only AOCB point was the mention of Distance Measuring Devices which the SLGA have still followed the R&A advice. However, Shona Malcolm stated that with so many Clubs and Organisations allowing them now then she was sure that perhaps this may change -- So watch this space !!
The meeting finished within an hour with a very able Vote of Thanks from Mary Richardson, Captain of Midlothian County Ladies.

The Ladies’ Golf Union International Selection Panel has today named a Great Britain & Ireland preliminary squad of 12 players for the 37th Curtis Cup match against the United States at The Nairn Golf Club, Scotland from June 8 to 10, 2012.

Amy Boulden, Holly Clyburn, Kelsey MacDonald, Pamela Pretswell, Stephanie Meadow, Leona Maguire and Kelly Tidy played for GB&I in the 2010 Vagliano Trophy match against the Continent of Europe at Royal Porthcawl last June.
Holly Clyburn, Leona and Lisa Maguire, Pamela Pretswell played in the 2010 Curtis Cup match at Essex County Club, Massachusetts. Kelsey MacDonald was first reserve, Stephanie Meadow second reserve and Amy Boulden fourth reserve for that match.
Becky Harries is the 2011 Welsh Ladies’ (Close) Amateur Champion, beating Amy Boulden in the final. Becky won all six matches (three foursomes, three singles) for Wales in the 2011 Women’s Home Internationals at Hillside GC, Lancashire last September. CLARE QUEEN MAKES IT BACK ON TO THE EUROPEAN TOUR

Clare Queen gained pass marks at the Ladies European Tour Final Qualifying School but Carly Booth was beaten in a six-player play-off for the last of 30 places at La Manga Golf Resort, Spain today.
Queen (The Carrick at Loch Lomond),- pictured above, made it in joint 22nd place on five-over-par 366, her form tapering off with a final round of four-over-par 77 over the South Course but she had done enough earlier in the week to earn playing rights for 2012.
Comrie's Booth, 19, deserved better after starting the day in joint 43rd position and battling her way 14 places up the standings to return a one-under-par 72 for seven-over 368.
Starting at the 10th, nothing much happened for her except seven pars and bogeys at the long 13th and 14th.
But a first birdie at the short 2nd lit the fuse. She shrugged off a bogey at the fourth and put in a grandstand finish by birdieing three of her last four holes, the long sixth, seventh and ninth to finish joint 29th and get into the play-off. But it was just a bridge too far for the young Curtis Cup player of 2008.

The play-off started at the par-4 seventh where Booth, pictured left by Cal Carson Golf Agency, drove into a bunker. She took three shots to reach the putting surface and a bogey 5 eliminated her. But Carly will be entitled to some starts on the 2012 Ladies European Tour.
Florida-based Yorkshire-born Jodi Ewart, who came through the LPGA Tour School in early December, held on to her overnight lead with a level par 73 and a final total of 11-under-par 350.

EILIDH KNOCKED OUT OF THE JONES DOHERTY CHALLANGE CUP

The second round of the Jones-Doherty Challenge Cup was a bad one for GB and I Curtis Cup team contenders in this week's Orange Blossom Tour compeition at Coral Ridge Country Club, Lauderdale in Florida.
Woodhall Spa's Holly Clyburn, who played in the 2010 match against the Americans, lost at the 20th to Meghan Stasi, twice winner of the US women's mid-amateur title and beaten at the 19th by Kelsey MacDonald in the semi-finals of the 2010 British women's amateur championship at Ganton.
And Kelsey, desperate to make her Curtis Cup debut in her home town of Nairn in the June 8-10 match, lost heavily by 6 and 4 to Annie Dulman, an 18-year-old American whose name means nothing on this side of the Atlantic but who turned in a brilliant display against MacDonald.
Kelsey had a match-play tiger by the tail because her opponent was approximately six under par for the holes played!
In the quarter-finals Stasi will play the defending champion, 15-year-old Charley Hull (Woburn) from Kettering. Hull had a 3 and 2 win over E Gimpel in the second round. Hull, like Kelsey's conqueror, was six under par, this time for 16 holes.
The only other British player in the last eight is European women's universities champion and Stirling student Harriet Beasley (Woburn). She beat Daniela Lendl, one of Ivan Lendl's golfing daughters, by 2 and 1 and now plays American M Lui, surprise conqueror of Scottish girls champion Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm and Stirling Univerity).
Briggs lost by 4 and 3.
In the first flight competition for first-round losers, Jordana Graham (Southerness and Stirling University) beat M West by 2 and 1 to enter the quarter-finals but team-mate Rebecca Wilson (Grange, Monifieth) lost by one hole to J Carmichael.
Another Stirling student, Mhairi McKay (West Kilbride), who did not qualify for the championship match-play flight, is through to the semi-finals of the Second Flight. She had a one-hole win over D Proctor.

Top seed Charley Hull (Woburn), 15, pictured by courtesy of Steve Jackson, began her defence of the Jones-Doherty Challenge Cup with a smooth 6 and 5 win over American Sami Stewart in this week's Orange Blossom Tour event at Coral Ridge Country Club, Fort Lauderdale in Florida.
Kelsey MacDonald, the No 3 seed from Stirling University and Nairn Dunbar GC, also won with something to spare. She beat the No 30 qualifier, N McNicholas, by 4 and 3.
Scottish girls champion Eilidh Briggs (Stirling University and Kilmacolm) survived the longest tie of the first round. Eilidh, the No 4 seed, beat T Caldabaugh, the No 29 qualifier, at the 21st.
Rebecca Wilson (Stirling University and Grange, Monifieth) gave Curtis Cup player Holly Clyburn (Woodhall Spa), the No 9 seed, a run for her money before the English player won by 2 and 1.
Clyburn now plays American Meghan Stasi, twice a winner of the US women's mid-amateur title, Curtis Cup player at St Andrews in 2008 and beaten semi-finalist in the British women's open amateur championship at Ganton in 2010.

Only Clare Queen and young Carly Booth of the five Scots in the field beat the fourth-round cut in the Ladies European Tour Final Qualifying School at La Manga, Spain today.
Lynn Kenny lost her card and the other Scots failures to get through to the crucial fifth round on Thursday were Glasgow's Gemma Webster and Pamela Pretswell (Bothwell Castle) who fortunately retained her amateur status and is a near certainty to be named in the GB and I team for the Curtis Cup match at Nairn June 8-10.
Yorkshire's US-based Jodi Ewart leads the field by four shots with an 11-under-par tally of 277.
The top 30 at the end of 90 holes will gain playing rights on the 2012 LET circuit and Queen looks as if she can start planning her playing schedule now. With the final round to come, The Carrick at Loch Lomond player is lying joint 10th after rounds of 70, 70, 74 and 75 for one-over-par 289 over the North and South courses.
Comrie's Booth has hung on in there but now needs to find an extra gear for a last-day push to move up from joint 43rd into the top 30. Carly is joint 43rd meantime on 296 after rounds of 76, 72, 74 and 74.
Kenny, playing out of Archerfield Links, dropped over the limit mark with a final round of 78 for a total of 303 to be placed joint 76th in the four-round totals. It is the first time she has lost her player's card since she gained LET membership some years ago. Her earlier rounds were 77, 72 and 76.
Webster (78-72-79-73) and Pretswell (767-76-77-73) finished the 72 holes in joint 70th place on 302.
Another top amateur to miss the cut was Kelly Tidy (Royal Birkdale) with 74-79-75-78 for 306. Like Pretswell, Tidy is almost certain to be named shortly by the LGU selectors in a preliminary Curtis Cup squad.

Playing in the Ladies European Tour Final Qualifying School is rated by many of the competitors the toughest, nerve-jangling test of all of because their livelihood over the next 12 months depends on whether they gain one of the 30 players' card awarded after a 90-hole marathon at La Manga, Spain.
Clare Queen, pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency, it would seem, is in "the zone" at the moment after two rounds of 70 for four-under-par 140 have her sharing seventh place in the field of 101. US-based former Curtis Cup player Jodi Ewart from Yorkshire is setting the pace on 137 with rounds of 70 and 67.
Queen, attached to The Carrick at Loch Lomond, shot three-under par at the more difficult South Course today, boosting her bag of birdies over the first 36 holes to nine with sub-par figures at the first, 10th, 14th and 16th. Her one bogey, at the 15th, came too late to knock her off course for the day.
The first target for all the players is to survive the cut after four rounds to the leading 50 and ties. Apart from Queen, none of the other four Scots is within that mark going into the third day although Carly Booth (Comrie), Lynn Kenny (Archerfield Links) and Glasgow's Gemma Webster all raised their game from disappointing first rounds to return 72s.
Booth is sharing 52nd place after a three-birdie, two-bogey one-under par 72 at the South course for 148.
Dunblane's Kenny is in joint 56th position on 149.
Webster had three birdies and four bogeys over the North Course to be joint 65th on 150.
GB and I amateur international Pamela Pretswell (Bothwell Castle) is a certainty for selection for the Curtis Cup match at Nairn should she fail to gain pass marks at the Q School.
That might well be affecting her psychologically because two rounds of 76 for eight-over-par 152 and joint 79th place does not represent her normal form. It's too much of a coincidence that Kelly Tidy (Royal Birkdale), who is in the same amateur-waiting-to-turn pro position as Pretswell, is also having a dire tournament so far at La Manga. The 2010 British women's open amateur champion is lying 91st equal on 153 after scores of 74 and 79.

Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm) has finished in 7th Place in the South Atlantic Women's Amateur Championship at the Oceanside Country Club Ormond Beach, Florida today " The Sally" --- 2 Strokes ahead of Curtis Cup hopeful Holly Clyburn

Considering this is Eilidh's first visit to the Orange Blossom Tour and her first experience of the Oceanside CC course, it was an encouraging performance for the 18-year-old who birdied the second and short fourth on Saturday but dropped shots at the first, short ninth, short 14th and 16th in halves of 36-36.

GEMMA WEBSTER JOINS CLARE AND PAMELA AS QUALIFIERS

There will be five Scots in the field for the Ladies European Tour Qualifying School's five-round Final stage, starting at La Manga on Sunday. Lynn Kenny and Carly Booth, exempt from the pre-qualifier which ended today will be joined by Clare Queen (The Carrick at Loch Lomond), GB and I international amateur Pamela Pretswell (Bothwell Castle) and, thanks to a sparkling sub-par fourth and final round, Glasgow's former US college circuit player, Gemma Webster.
With the field of over 200 split into two groups, Queen finished joint 10th on five-over 293 in Group A while Pretswell came joint 18th on 296 in Group B. Webster surged from joint 44th overnight to joint 28th with a one-under-par 70 at La Manga North for a total of 299, making it through with a shot to spare.
Heather MacRae missed out by a single stroke after she too finished with a good score, a 71 at La Manga North. But for a disastrous opening round of 81, MacRae would have made it with ease.
Same goes for Majorca-based youngster Lauren Mackin. She had three respectable scores but was dragged down by a second-round 84.
Other Scots who failed to gain pass marks were former Scottish women's champion and now St Andrews Links Trust caddie Linzi Morton, Nicola Melville, Carnoustie's Katy McNicoll and Pamela Feggans from Patna, Ayrshire.

ALYSON MCKECHIN FINISHES IN WELL IN SPANISH WOMEN'S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

West of Scotland's Alyson McKechin (Elderslie) and Jessica Meek (Carnoustie Ladies) finished a creditable joint 15th and 22nd respectively in the inaugural Spanish women's amateur international stroke-play championship over three rounds at Alicante Golf Club today.
Alyson had rounds of 73, 77 and 75 for a total of nine-over-par 225. Jessica scored 73, 77 and 78 for 228.
Winner was South Korean-born, Spanish domiciled Ha Rang Lee with scores of 67, 71 and 74 for four-under-par 212.
Leading British finishers were the Welsh pair Becky Harris (joint sixth on 219) and Amy Boulden (joint 10th on 224.

Go-ahead for DMDs in all English women’s competitions

Distance measuring devices (DMDS) are to be allowed in all English national women’s championships and competitions, with immediate effect.

Until now, competitors have been allowed to use DMDs in English Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) events at club level. However, they were not permitted in national championships, nor in the regional and national finals of handicap competitions.

Many players found the situation confusing and EWGA received many questions asking why DMDs were not allowed in all its competitions and, specifically, why men could use them when women could not.

After giving full consideration to the matter, the EWGA Operational Board decided that DMDs could be used in all its events. The decision was made at the board’s final meeting before the association merged with the English Golf Union (EGU) to form England Golf. The EGU already allows the use of DMDs in all its events.

Individual county women’s associations will continue to make their own decision about whether or not to allow the use of DMDs in their events.

WEST OF SCOTLAND'S CLARE QUEEN AND PAMELA PRETSWELL STILL DOING WELL AFTER 3 ROUNDS AT LA MANGA

Seven Scots look doomed to be eliminated after Wednesday's fourth round, leaving only Clare Queen and Pamela Pretswell from north of the Border to advance to join compatriots Lynn Kenny and Carly Booth in the Ladies European Tour Qualifying School Final Stage at La Manga, beginning on Sunday.

Only Clare Queen and Pamela Pretswell, of the nine Scots are in the qualifying zone with one round to play.
The field of 204 players is split into two groups from which the top 35 and ties in each will advance to the 90-hole Final Stage which starts at the same venue on Sunday. Clare Queen (The Carrick at Loch Lomond) is lying joint 10th in Group A after a two-over-par 71 in the third round at La Manga North. She is on three-over-par 218 - five shots off the pace.
Bothwell Castle GC member Pamela Pretswell, still an amateur, is joint 17th in Group B after a two-over-par 75 at the more difficult La Manga South course.
The situation is not so rosy for the other Scots in Group B. Glasgow's Gemma Webster (78 for 229) is currently joint 44th; Heather MacRae (Gleneagles Hotel) (75 for 230) is joint 51st, Linzi Morton (84 for 235) from Tulliallan is joint 81st and Nicola Melville (unatt) (85 for 249) is 99th.
MacRae had an 8 at the long fourth, an eagle at the 18th and five birdies.
Morton had a triple bogey, a double bogey and no birdies in halves of 44-40.
Similarly, in Group A, Pamela Feggans (74) from Patna, Ayrshire, Katy McNicoll (74) from Carnoustie and Majorca-based Lauren Mackin (72) after all on the 228 mark and sharing 54th place.

ALYSON MCKECHIN MAKES THE CUT IN SPAIN

Carnoustie's Jessica Meek and West of Scotland's Alyson McKechin (Elderslie), have made it through to Wednesday's final 36 holes in the Spanish women's amateur international stroke-play championship over four rounds at Alicante Golf Club.

Both Scots had matching opening rounds of 73 and 77 for 150 to be sharing 20th place, 12 shots behind the leader, Ha Rang Lee, the South Korean-born Spaniard who has shot 67 and 71 for six-under 138 anda three-shot lead.

To qualify for Wednesday's final 36 holes, a player to had to have an aggregate of 157 or better for the first two rounds.
Lauren Whyte (St Regulus (84-77) and Ailsa Summers (Carnoustie) (84-77) both failed by four on 161.
Rachel Walker (Dumfries and Co) (87-79) and Connie Jaffrey (Troon Portland) (81-85) both missed out on 166.
East Lothian women's champion Clara Young (North Berwick) had disappointing rounds of 97 and 90 for 187.

The 200 competitors have been split into two groups of 100. The top 35 and ties in each group at the end of 72 holes will go forward to the Final Q School over five rounds, beginning on Sunday.

Queen shot a two-under-par 71 over the more difficult La Manga South course to be lying joint seventh in Group A on 145 at the halfway point of the pre-qualifier. She had four birdies between the sixth and 13th holes.
Pretswell, still an amateur with selection for the Curtis Cup match in June a possible nice "consolation" if she delays turning pro, surged up from 30th to joint 17th in Group B on 147 after a par-matching 71 at La Manga North.
It was the proverbial game of two halves for Pamela - four birdies in reaching the turn in 31 but no birdies in an inward half of 40- which included a double bogey 6 at the 11th.
Former Scottish amateur champion Linzi Morton from Tulliallan - a professional caddie on the St Andrews Links Trust's "books," slumped in Group B to a share of 35th place with a 78. She struggled with 43 blows over the inward half.

Glasgow's Gemma Webster is alongside Morton on 151 with a 72 which was a mixture of six birdies and seven bogeys.

Former British women's amateur stroke-play champion Heather MacRae (Gleneagles Hotel) is well out of it - at the moment - in joint 64th place on 155 although she did improve to a 74 while Nicola Melville had a 79, also over La Manga North to be joint 96th on 164.

Back in Group A, Katy McNicoll from Carnoustie and Majorca-based Lauren Mackin have it all to do to reach the top 35 qualifiers over the next 36 holes. Katy is joint 56th on 154 after a second-round 79 while Mackin nosedived from a 72 to an 85 and a share of 69th place on 156.

Elderslie's Alyson McKechin starts well in Spain

West of Scotland's Alyson McKechin (Elderslie) ended the opening day of the Spanish women's amateur international stroke-play championship in a creditable joint ninth position at Alicante Golf Club.

She shot a one-over-par 73 to be six shots behind leader Ha Rang Lee, of South Korean extraction but now a domaciled Spaniard.

Alyson birdied the first, sixth, ninth, 11th and 14th but marred her card with double bogeys at the second and 12th. Jessica Meek (Carnoustie) also shot a 73.

Connie Jaffrey (Troon Porland) is tied for 60th place with an 81. Ailsa Summers (Carnoustie) had a disappointing 84 to be sharing 73rd place with Lauren Whyte (St Regulus).

Rachel Walker (Dumfries and Co) had an 87 to be in joint 80th place. Junior Vagliano Trophy player and East Lothian's youngest ever women's champion, Clara Young (North Berwick) had an off day and returned a 97. She is in 88th place in the field of 90.

Top Scots at the end of the first day of the Ladies European Tour School pre-qualifying competition at La Manga, Spain today (Sunday) were Linzi Morton, the 2001 Scottish women's amateur champion from Tulliallan, and Majorca-based youngster Lauren Mackin.
Morton's pro career has never got off the ground over the past decade due to a wrist injury in the first instance. But she has earned enough money as a professional caddie at the Old Course and other St Andrews Links Trust courses to have another go at making it through to the Ladies European Tour.
There are just over 200 competitors in the first pre-qualifier, being contested by two groups from which the leading 35 and ties in both at the end of 72 holes will go on to next week's four-round Final Stage, also at La Manga.
Morton is lying ninth in Group B after a par-matching 73 at the tougher La Manga South Course.
She had a roller-coaster round with five birdies, one double bogey and three bogeys.
Mackin is joint 14th in Group A after a one-over-par 72 at the "easier" La Manga North Course. Originally from Renfrewshire, Lauren had three birdies and four bogeys, a dropped shot at her last hole, the ninth, costing her the satisfaction of a par round.
At this venue, Clare Queen had a 74 which put her in joint 29th position but Pamela Feggans is well outside the qualifying zone already with a 75 for a share of 43rd place.
At La Manga South, Pamela Pretswell (Bothwell Castle), retaining her amateur status until she sees how she fares at Q School, had a 76 to be joint 30th.
Gemma Webster from Glasgow is joint 60th after a 79 which included two double bogeys.
Heather MacRae (Gleneagles Hotel) looked only a shadow of the player who won the British women's amateur stroke play title at Nairn in 2005 as she returned an eight-over 81 which also included two double bogeys.
Nicola Melville required 46 blows for the inward half in compiling an 85 which leaves her an uphill struggle from joint 96th position.

West of Scotland's Eilidh Briggs playing in the Orange Blossom Trail

West of Scoltland's Eilidh Briggs is representing Stirling University on the Orange Blossom Trail in Florida this month.
She has completed the first competition at the Harder Hall Invitational.
Kettering-based Charley Hull, No 10 in the Women's World Amateur Rankings, is off and running for what promises to be another wonderful season for the 15-year-old Woburn GC member.
Starting the final round of the Harder Hall Women's Invitational two shots behind 16-year-old, World No 8 Ariya Jutanugarn from Bangkok), Charley, as we have come to expect, rose to the occasion with a closing round of three-under-par 69 which took her past Ariya down the home straight and on to a two-shot victory with a six-under-par total of 282 - and that over a Sebring, Florida course which had been toughened up since last year with the addition of quite a few bunkers.
The "Harder Hall" was started in 1956 and the winners' roll is studded with names of girls who have gone on to win fame and fortune - but it is believed that Charley Hull is the youngest ever winner. She will have her 16th birthday on March 20. She is certainly the first winner to hail from Europe.

Hull, winner of the last match-play event on the 2011 Orange Blossom Tour before she went on to win the Welsh and English women's amateur stroke-play titles and be beaten in the English women's match-play final, can be considered a certainty to be chosen for the GB and I team of eight for the Curtis Cup match against the Americans at Nairn GC from June 8-10.
She played for GB and I in the Junior Vagliano Trophy match at Royal Porthcawl last June but this will be her first full GB and I cap.

Scotland's Kelsey MacDonald fared worst of the three GB and I Curtis Cup team contenders in the Harder Hall Invitational.
The 21-year-old Stirling student and Nairn Dunbar GC member finished a disappointing 31st on 23-over-par 311 - 29 shots behind Charley Hull and 16 behind Holly Clyburn.
Kelsey had started brightly enough to be in joint seventh place with a first-round 75 but she gradually slipped down the field with subsequent rounds of 81, 75 and 80.
The tournament probably came just a bit early for MacDonald. Hull had been warming up in Majorca while Clyburn finished fourth in last week's Dixie Women's Amateur elsewhere in Florida.
Kelsey usually steps up the pace in the second event of the Florida circuit, the South Atlantic Ladies championship (known as the "Sally") over four rounds, starting at Oceanside Country Club on Tuesday (January 10).
MacDonald still outshone the rest of her Stirling team-mates at Harder Hall.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates: American Lexi Thompson, 16, became the youngest professional golfer to win on the Ladies European Tour when she captured the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters by four shots at Emirates Golf Club today.
Aged 16 years, 10 months, 8 days, she became the second youngest ever Ladies European Tour event winner after South Korean Amy Yang, who was aged 16 years, 6 months, 8 days, when she won the ANZ Ladies Masters in Australia as an amateur, in 2006.

Kylie Walker is doing well in Dubai

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates: Lexi Thompson of the United States says that she will just ‘have fun and relax’ as she goes in pursuit of her second professional title at the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters on Saturday.
The 16-year-old, from Coral Springs in Florida birdied the 18th hole at Emirates Golf Club today to move a stroke ahead of the field going into the final round.

West of Scotland's Kylie Walker had another par round today to remain 2 under after the 3 rounds. Clare Queen and Lynn Kenny both had 2 over par rounds today. The other Scot in the field Vikki Laing did not make the cut

This was how I appeared on tv last Friday!!!!
John and I went with our German friends to the Franklin Templeton Shootout at Tiburon Golf Club at the Ritz Carlton resort in Naples, this was us at the 18th and enjoyed the day - Scotty McCarron was taking the mickey out of Camilo Villegas who as you know is one for spreadeagling himself along the ground to read a putt - so Scotty lay on his back and when he got up - he did hole out. Later, the four of them came to a golf clinic which Norman hosted - they showed us all sorts of shots, questions were invited and the kids were made very welcome and encouraged to ask questions, they then had about ten youngsters aged 10 - 16 who then showed us what they could do and boy it was impressive - professional golfers in the making. I did of course take one of the free hats and got Norman, Fowler and McCarron to sign it - Rickie Fowler asked me if I would like a game but I am far to busy to fit a game into MY busy schedule!!!!

There was the usual stalls for all sorts of things and in one of the places, I took part in a putting competition and for holing three putts in a row - got a head cover - they did take a picture and you could choose whatever background - the US OPEN or St. Andrews - I chose the Scottish venue! We then went into Naples and had dinner on 5th Avenue so a nice finish to the day.

Caroline Hedwall notched the fourth win of her rookie season on the Ladies European Tour with a closing 69 at the Hero Women’s Indian Open today.
The 22-year-old Swede had five birdies and two bogeys in her final round at DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon, New Delhi, to finish with a winning score of 12 under 204 - two ahead of Thailand’s Pornanong Phatlum.

Long-playing Lanark Golf Club member May Hughes received Honorary Membership of the county at the AGM. This was the speech given by county captain Lesley Lloyd when making the presentation:

"May Hughes has been a member of LLCGA since 1979 and played for the County Team between 1983 and 2010. May was selected for this year’s team but decided it was time to hang up her red jersey.

During that time, especially in the 1980s and early 1990s, Lanarkshire were a very successful team and May was part of a winning team that qualified for and won the Scottish County Finals on 4 occasions.

May was County Champion in 1993, 2003 & 2004 and runner-up on 3 other occasions. As well as being a very successful golfer, May served on Committee from 1996-99 and she was County Captain in 2008 and 2009 in our Centenary Year.

Since becoming eligible for Seniors and Vets golf May has twice been West of Scotland Vets Champion in 2008 and 2010, was runner up in the Scottish Vets Championship in 2010, represented the Scottish Vets Team on five occasions and this year represented Scotland in the Senior Home International Matches.

May, in recognition of your outstanding contribution and commitment to Lanarkshire Ladies County Golf Association over many years I would ask you to accept Honorary membership of our Association."

An Evening in the Memory of Jean Watson

John Watson and his family held an evening in memory of his mother Jean Watson who died earlier this year at the age of 88. Approximately 100 guests attended the evening on Saturday 19th November. The guests included former Curtis Cup Players Belle Robertson and Wilma Leburn (Aitken), many D&A Past Captains and members from Douglas Park Golf Club.
John, Susan (Jean's daughter) and D&A and Douglas Park's Elinor Grant all recounted their happy memories.

Jean Watson who had been six times Lady Champion of Douglas Park Golf Club, Douglas Park's Ladies Captain in 1965, D&A County Captain 1973 - 74 and on many occasions a member of the D&A County Team. She was the winner of the West of Scotland Ladies Veteran's Championship in 1974, 1978,1979,1983,and 1984 and finalist in the Scottish Ladies Veterans Championship in 1979. For 30 years she performed the duties of Handicap Secretary to the Ladies Section.
In 1965 Jean won the LGU Gold Medal for Scotland at Gleneagles. She was Captain of the Scottish Ladies' Veteran Golf Association in 1985 and 1986 and Jean played for the Scottish Vets for 10 years between 1976 and 1986.
In recognition of her many playing successes, her service to the Club, and the honour she brought by her membership of the Scottish and National ruling bodies, Jean was elected an Honorary Member in 1979.

Pamela finishes in the top 20 in the Murcia Open at La Manga

After both shooting 70 in the final round of the Murcia Ladies Open to finish at five under par 214, the defending champion Julie Tvede from Denmark and Spain’s Carlota Ciganda played off on the Sunday Morning with Ciganda being the winner.
Heather MacRae (Gleneagles) was the top Scot, finishing T9 on 223 with scores of 76, 70 and 77. She had a double bogey 6 at the 15th for the second successive day. Heather's take-home pay amounted to 675 Euros.
British amateur international Pamela Pretswell (Bothwell Castle), who entered the tournament because it was being played over La Manga's South Course which is the same one that will be used for January's LET Qualifying School, finished one shot behind Heather but T17 was her final position after rounds of 73, 75 and 76. She had a birdie 3 at the 14th in the final round. The same hole cost her a double bogey 6 in the first round.

DEATH OF MOIRA THOMSON (61) SHOCKS SCOTTISH GOLF

It is with huge regret that I report the death of Moira Thomson (nee Dewar) at the young age of 61.
She died this morning (19th November) at the Western General Hospital. I am sure all who read this will be as shocked as I am at the speed in which her illness took her.   It has been only 13 weeks since her diagnosis, and she fought a courageous battle to the end.
Moira won the Scottish Girls Championship at Dalmahoy in 1968.   Starting out as a County player for Midlothian, and then a stalwart of the East Lothian County team, she really came into her own on reaching the age for seniors golf, and was a regular Scottish Senior International player for over 10 years.
She worked very hard on her golf in these latter years, and gained the respect of her international colleagues as a strong match player. She thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie of senior golf and her friends at Gullane will miss her in their regular Saturday game.
Our heartfelt sympathies go to her husband Alastair, her daughter Claire and son Andrew, her sister Anne and their families.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

MURCIA LADIES OPEN PLAY SUSPENDED: SCOTS IN TOP TEN

The second round of the 54-hole Murcia Ladies Open over the South Course, La Manga will be completed early Saturday morning after electrical storms in the south-east region of Spain forced a suspension of play this afternoon.
Heather MacRae (Gleneagles) and amateur international Pamela Pretswell (Bothwell Castle) will have nine holes to complete before going out again for the third and final round.
They are both two over par overall, Pamela Pretswell, playing the second nine first, dropped three shots over her first three holes. MacRae started badly but birdied the fourth, sixth and eighth before play was halted.
Ayrshire's Pamela Feggans also has nine holes to complete but, having run up a quadruple bogey 8 at the third and taken 44 shots for the first nine to be 12 over par overall, she has little chance of surving the cut, forecast to be at four-over 150.
Carnoustie's Katy McNicoll was one of the few to complete her second round and she had a disastrous 83 with one triple boge3y and two double bogeys to be joint 66th on 159.
Danish amateur Daisy Nielsen, with nine holes to play, leads at three under par by one shot from Danielle McVeigh (Ireland), also halfway through her second round, with overnight leader Carlota Ciganda (Spain) one under par with six holes to play.

MERGER BETWEEN EWGA AND EGU COMES INTO EFFECT ON JAN 1

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
The merger of the English Golf Union (EGU) and the English Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) was approved yesterday at simultaneous general meetings of both organisations.
The merger will come into effect on January 1 and will create England Golf, one national governing body to represent all amateur golfers in England.
The merger proposal was approved by 86 per cent of the voting members of the EGU, meeting at its headquarters in Woodhall Spa; and by 100 per cent of the voting members of the EWGA, meeting at the National Motor Cycle Museum at Solihull. Both organisations had to approve the proposal by a majority of at least 75 per cent for it to be successful.
The decision was immediately hailed as a triumph for golf and a vital step forward for the game.
Sylvia Perrins, EWGA Interim Chairman, and Nigel Evans, the EGU Chairman, said: “This merger is in the best interests of golf and we are delighted that it has been given overwhelming support by our members. We look forward to a new era and to realising our vision for the future.
“England Golf will speak with one voice and send out the powerful, modern message that golf is a game for all, for men and women, boys and girls.
“A unified organisation, which promotes both the men’s and women’s game, will be more attractive to new golfers, will help us to grow the game, will be more appealing to commercial partners and sponsors and will mean we can be more cost effective.”
The merger vote followed a long period of consultation and preparation, which began in 2009 when a steering group was formed of members of both organisations.
Following lengthy discussions, and the involvement of ten working groups, the proposal was produced and ratified by the Boards of both organisations before being put to the voting members.
Key points of the merger
• The headquarters of England Golf will initially be at the National Golf Centre at Woodhall Spa. The EWGA offices in Edgbaston will continue in use until at least October 2012.
• The counties will continue to be the voting members. Counties will be encouraged to merge their Unions and Associations, but this will not be mandatory.
• The Board of England Golf will initially include 10 stakeholder non-executive directors, six nominated by the EGU and four women nominated by the EWGA. One of these 10 will be nominated as Chairman.
• The first sole President of England Golf will be a woman. The President will be supported by the immediate Past President and the President-Elect. One of these three will always be a woman.
• Club golf will go on, from day-to-day, as it does now, but members will benefit from the positive perceptions created by the merger and by the better support available for clubs.
• All the championships and tournaments currently run by the EWGA and the EGU will continue.
• The regional and group structures of the two organisations will continue to run competitions. The decision-making role of the EWGA regional committees will end.
• Affiliation fees for men and women will be harmonised and will be equal by January 1, 2014. Women will continue to pay an additional subscription to the Ladies Golf Union.

Rules Officials are needed

The SLGA are seeking candidates to train as Rules Officials. They are looking for those who have already passed the SGU Rules Exam or people interested in sitting this exam. This involves a two day course with an exam at the end and which involves a cost. This would allow someone to officiate at club or county level and she may be asked to assist at Scottish events.
Those who have successfully passed the SGU exam, at the invitation of the SLGA, may be put forward to sit the more advanced R&A exam. The SLGA fund this exam.

Mhairi McKay was tonight (California time) being inducted into the Stanford University Athletic Hall of Fame.
The following article is from the Stanford University website:
STANFORD, California - A native of Glasgow, Scotland, Mhairi McKay was the first international golfer to be offered in scholarship at Stanford. A three-time first team All-America selection for the Cardinal in 1994, '96 and '97, McKay helped Stanford to three Top-5 finishes at the NCAA Championships before going on to enjoy a successful career on the LPGA Tour.
As a professional, McKay represented Europe on two Solheim Cup teams, claimed her first professional victory at the 2003 AAMI Australian Women's Open and enjoyed three Top-10 finishes at the U.S. Women's Open.

What are some of your thoughts about being selected to Stanford's Athletic Hall Fame?
When the phone call came from the athletic department informing me of my selection for the Hall of Fame I remember just being completely stunned and taken aback. Such an honour I had given no thought to. Obviously I was aware of the great Stanford golfers already inducted, Mickey Wright, Tom Watson, Tiger Woods to name but a few; their stratospheric achievements have been an inspiration to me throughout my career. Following in their footsteps is very surreal, flattering and humbling.
The timing of the call came at a particular poignant moment for my family. We had just been evacuated the previous day from our home in Los Alamos, New Mexico, because of the Los Conchas forest fire. At the time we worried as the fire came within 1.5 miles of our home so the call was blessed relief and cause for celebration.
You were the first international player to be offered a scholarship to play golf at Stanford. What were some of the factors that pointed you to The Farm?
I have so many people to thank for their part in my Stanford scholarship all the way from Glasgow, Scotland. Firstly, my parent's close friends, Charlie and Joyce Scott, from our golf club in Glasgow were responsible for making initial contact with Tim Baldwin the then-women's golf coach after a round of golf at the university course. After that chance meeting, Coach Baldwin made contact with me and before I knew it my father and I were headed to the States (our first ever visit to USA) on a recruitment trip to check out Stanford and another prestigious university.
Ironically, the weather was very un-Californian, actually quite Scottish! Not that that bothered me, I was simply in awe of this amazing campus, Palm Drive, the Quad, the people associated with the university, driving range and golf course you could just fall out of bed on to, not forgetting all the other amazing sports facilities. I went to class with one of the girls on the team - psych with Professor Zimbardo - who lectured on his infamous Stanford Prison experiment. This sure doesn't happen in Scotland and how could all this incredible activity happen in one small place? I was overcome, yet in heaven!
The coach from the second university tried hard when I arrived there a few days later, but I already had my heart set on Stanford. Really there was no decision!
But I can't thank Tim Baldwin enough for taking the chance on a wee girl from Scotland whom he'd never seen swing a club! Who does that? Hence, I feel this honour is as much to do with Coach Baldwin giving me the opportunity of a lifetime.

West Renfrewshire AGM and Presentation of Trophies

The West Renfrewshire League AGM and Presentation of Trophies was held at Ranfurly Castle Golf Club this evening Wednesday 9 November.
18 ladies attended with tea being provided at the beginning of the evening. The business was completed promptly which included an agreement to allow the use of Sky Caddies in matches. This allowed the representatives a chance to mix and also to put some provisional dates in the 2012 playing diary.

Final Results:
Division 1: Ranfurly Castle and Gleddoch were level on points and games won. Ranfurly Castle were confirmed as the winners after a count back of "holes up".
Division 2: Winners: Renfrew, Runners up: Caldwell.
Division 3: Kilmacolm and Gourock were joint leaders with Kilmacolm the winners as they had won the most games.

1. Don't buy a putter until you've had a chance to throw it.

2. Never try to keep more than 300 separate thoughts in your mind during your swing.

3. When your shot has to carry over a water hazard, you can either hit one more club or two more balls.

4. If you're afraid a full shot might reach the green while the foursome ahead of you is still
putting out, you have two options: you can immediately shank a lay-up or you can wait until the green is clear and top a ball halfway there.

5. The less skilled the player, the more likely he is to share his ideas about the golf swing.

6. No matter how bad you are playing, it is always possible to play worse.

7. The inevitable result of any golf lesson is the instant elimination of the one critical unconscious motion that allowed you to compensate for all of your many other error.

8. Everyone replaces his divot after a perfect approach shot.

9. A golf match is a test of your skill against your opponents' luck.

10. It is surprisingly easy to hole a fifty foot putt; for a 10.

11. Counting on your opponent to inform you when he breaks a rule is like expecting him to make fun of his own haircut.

12. Nonchalant putts count the same as chalant putts.

13. It's not a gimme if you're still 5 feet away.

14. The shortest distance between any two points on a golf course is a straight line that passes directly through the center of a very large tree.

15. You can hit a two acre fairway 10% of the time and a two inch branch 90% of the time.

16. If you really want to get better at golf, go back and take it up at a much earlier age.

17. Since bad shots come in groups of three, a fourth bad shot is actually the beginning of the next group of three.

18. When you look up, causing an awful shot, you will always look down again at exactly the moment when you ought to start watching the ball if you ever want to see it again.

19. Every time a golfer makes a birdie, he must subsequently make two triple bogeys to restore the fundamental equilibrium of the universe.

20. If you want to hit a 7 iron as far as Tiger Woods does, simply try to lay up just short of a water hazard.

21. To calculate the speed of a player's downswing, multiply the speed of his back-swing by his handicap; I.e., back-swing 20 mph , handicap 15, downswing = 300 mph.

22. There are two things you can learn by stopping your back-swing at the top and checking the position of your hands: how many hands you have, and which one is wearing the glove.

23. Hazards attract; fairways repel. Keep this in mind.

24. A ball you can see in the rough from 50 yards away is not yours.

25. If there is a ball on the fringe and a ball in the bunker, your ball is in the bunker. If both balls are in the bunker, yours is in the footprint.

31. Golf balls are like eggs. They're white. They're sold by the dozen. And you need to buy fresh ones each week.

32. It's amazing how a golfer who never helps out around the house will replace his divots, repair his ball marks, and rake his sand traps.

33. If your opponent has trouble remembering whether he shot a six or a seven, he probably shot an eight (or worse).

34. It takes longer to learn to be a good golfer than it does to become a brain surgeon. On the other hand, you don't get to ride around on a cart, drink beer, eat hot dogs and fart, if you’re performing Brain Surgery!!!!

There is a trophy for the best Junior girl on Juniors Day at Milngavie Golf Club. Megan Adair, who is Jill Foggo's 14 year old niece, won the Carol Dougan trophy at today's Junior Prizegiving.
Megan is still a relative beginner so it was nice for her to win her first trophy and hopefully this will encourage her for the future.

May Hughes (Lanark) and Alex Glennie (Kilmarnock Barassie) also both gave reports on the Mary McKenna Trophy and the Annual Vets Jamboree respectively. Scottish Vets Captain Helen Faulds (pictured above) showed off the new colours for the Scottish Vets team

Largs Kelburn hosted the Ayrshire v Renfrewshire Girls Friendly Match this afternoon.    The girls played very well on a day with strong winds, squally showers and wet conditions underfoot making the course play a bit longer, but all credit to the greens staff for the course being playable at all given the amount of rain that we have encountered recently.

Ayrshire managed to win by two matches to one in a greensomes matchplay format but with two games going down to the last putt on the last green it was all very close.   Results are as follows:-

Kylie Walker has a poor last round in the Suzhou Taihu Ladies Open in China

Suzhou, China: World number one Yani Tseng won the Suzhou Taihu Ladies Open in China on Sunday for her 11th worldwide victory of the year.
The 22-year-old five-time major champion closed with a six under par 66 on a beautiful final day at Suzhou Taihu International Golf Club for a seven stroke victory over Sweden’s Pernilla Lindberg. It was her 30th career title in four seasons as a professional and her third win in her last four events.
West of Scotland's Kylie Walker unfortunately did not manage to keep up her good play that she had in the 1st 2 rounds and finished well down the field.

Suzhou, China: World number one Yani Tseng, shot a six under par 66 today for a three shot lead going into the final round of the Suzhou Taihu Ladies Open in China.
Tseng’s second round, played in misty, damp conditions at Suzhou Taihu International Golf Club near Shanghai, contained seven birdies and one bogey for a 10 under par total of 134.
The 22-year-old from Chinese Taipei was three clear of Pernilla Lindberg from Sweden, who also played in the afternoon. Lindberg shot a bogey-free round of seven under 65 to tie the course record set in 2008 by Annika Sorenstam and Ye Li Ying.
Caroline Hedwall shot 69 to end one shot further back, along with Becky Brewerton (71 ), Giulia Sergas (70 ), Beth Allen (68 ), Lee-Anne Pace (70 ) and Kylie Walker (70 ) at six under overall.
Tseng trailed Brewerton by a shot overnight but went to the turn in 34 to grab a six-way share of the lead. She pulled a stroke clear at the 11th and, shadowed by a large and vociferous supporting gallery, moved further ahead with birdies on the 13th, 14th and 16th holes.
“Today we got really lucky because it was raining all morning, so lucky me to play in the afternoon,” Tseng said after her round.
“I played really good today. I was disappointed on the last hole I didn’t make birdie. I had a four-iron for the second shot, but I missed a two-footer putt today, on number two, I had a three-putt, but I mean, everything was really good and I’m very happy now.”
Tseng has notched 10 victories including two major championships in her fourth year on tour and is highly favoured to win the title, but did not want to get ahead of herself.
“It’s going to be like today. I’m going to work out tomorrow morning, stretch a little bit and get ready for the tournament. I’m in a very good position and I think I’ve just got to enjoy it.
“It’s a big crowd today and tomorrow I will enjoy the crowd, be patient and play one shot at a time and see what happens,” she said.
Lindberg, in her second year on tour, will be playing for her first victory as a professional after carding seven birdies in her second round.
“It’s always hard to repeat a round like that. Of course I feel good about my game and a lot better about my putting. My confidence is high going into tomorrow so I’ll see what I can do,” Lindberg said.
She has been paired with Tseng and fellow Swede Hedwall for the final round, starting at 11.10am local time and added: “Every time you play with a great player, it’s a great experience and you learn to handle it better: I’m looking forward to it.”

Suzhou, China: Becky Brewerton secured a one-shot lead after the first round of the Suzhou Taihu Ladies Open in China.
The 28-year-old from Wales, opened with a five under par 67 at Suzhou Taihu International Golf Club near Shanghai to edge one stroke ahead of six other players including the world number one Yani Tseng.

Tseng is looking for her 11th title of the season after winning in her homeland on Sunday.
She had four birdies in her opening round, but three putted for par on the 18th, after reaching the green in two strokes.

She is placed alongside the 2010 event champion Lee-Anne Pace from South Africa, Lisa Holm Sorensen and Line Vedel of Denmark, Scotland’s Kylie Walker and Italian Giulia Sergas.
Pace, who won her fifth LET title in a four-way play-off at the venue 12 months ago, was satisfied with five birdies and just one dropped shot at the 10th hole.

Kylie Walker, a second year professional on the LET, carded three birdies in a row from the fourth hole and grabbed another on the par-five 18th.
“I’m happy with four under. It was all really quite steady. I only missed two greens, gave myself a lot of chances and made a few of them. It was really nice, stress free. I was never in trouble,” Walker said.
“I’m driving it nicely, which is an advantage around here if you can be in the right positions, it sets you up for a good shot into the green.”

SKELMORLIE'S GILLIAN POLLOCK HAS SUCCESS IN THE 2011 ARRAN CHALLENGE

The ladies of Skelmorlie Golf Club have been competing in The Arran Challenge for the past twelve or so years and have been among the prizewinners on several occasions.
This annual competition attracts golfers from all over Scotland keen to play over the 12 short but challenging holes at Shiskine Golf Club. This year 216 ladies took part.
Having missed out on the scratch prize last year by a single stroke, Gillian Pollock had set her sights on winning it this year and she did so in style with a total of 98 for two rounds narrowly beating Claire Howden from Torwoodlee G.C. near Galashiels.
She also won the 1st. Class Nett prize (with a total of 84) and The Shiskine Trophy which the Skelmorlie Ladies compete for within the main competition.
All in all a most successful three days golf.

The 71st Greenlees Lunch and Presentation of Trophies was held at Whitecraigs Golf Club today.
Dorothy Cartlidge (Whitecraigs Greenlees Secretary) organised the event.
All clubs from the 3 divisions within the Greenlees Trophy were represented and what a great celebration they all had They were welcomed warmly by Whitecraigs Golf Club and Lady Captain Chris Fulton with a glass of wine and a beautiful lunch to follow.

Fiona Roger the West of Scotland Greenlees Secretary then stood up after the meal and here was her speech:

May I firstly say how pleased I am that Chris, Lady Captain of Whitecraigs, a very busy lady I am sure, has been able to take the time today to join us for lunch and I thank her for her kind words of welcome. It is a great pleasure to be here today for our annual Lunch and Presentation of prizes . Chris, on behalf of all the teams in The League, please pass on our thanks to your Club Captain and committee for allowing us to hold our lunch here and also a big thank you for the very generous gesture of providing us with our pre lunch drinks.
May we all wish you a very successful and happy year of captaincy.

You may remember last year that I referred several times to a little book called ‘Life’s little instruction book’ which is full of suggestions, observations and reminders on how to live a happy and rewarding life. I may just throw a few more at you in the next 10 minutes!!

Here’s the first one ---Don’t eat just before giving a speech. I would be more worried about drinking too much rather than eating too much. I have eaten before speaking, and may I say that I have enjoyed lunch very much, and hope that you also have enjoyed yours?
On behalf of us all, may I thank Dorothy for the time and effort she has put into the organisation for today. A job done pleasantly and efficiently. Thank you Dorothy. To the staff both behind the scenes and front of house, thank you for looking after us so well.
The lunch in the last few years seems to have become very popular and I am sorry that it hasn’t been possible for as many people to come from the clubs as would have liked to be here, but the final figure has to be in the hands of the host club.

As you all know this is my last year as Greenlees Secretary. Anne Dunn, Kilmacolm, who is with us today, takes over from me at the AGM and Fixture Meeting in November and I hope that you will afford her the same support and patience you have all shown to me.

This is my 4th lunch since taking over from Willeen. How many lunches did Willeen attend in her capacity as Secretary - a considerable number more than me. Were I to continue for as many years as Willeen I would be doing it from above or maybe below!! As you all know, the host club each year is in alphabetical order of the teams in the three leagues. It has been very coincidental that in my four years, the four host clubs have been, in my first year, Ranfurly Castle, my home club since the early 70s, the following year Troon – a club I have now been a member of for several years. Last year, at West Kilbride, it was the 70th year of competition for the Greenlees Trophy – a year for reminiscing and noting facts and figures - and this year Whitecraigs. Not many of you, if any, will know that I had my name on the waiting list for Whitecraigs before I joined Ranfurly. I was having dinner in Kilmacolm with Colin and Trish Brown and bemoaning the fact that I was keen to start playing golf, had had my name on the waiting list at Whitecraigs for some time, and had heard nothing. Trish said ‘why not join Ranfurly Castle – they are looking for more lady members. I contacted Whitecraigs – they had no knowledge of me ever being on their waiting list. You have guessed it -- I accepted membership at Ranfurly 3 weeks later and the rest is history!! I did however play a lot of my early golf over Whitecraigs with local friends, had many competitive, fun filled days and still always enjoy any chance I have to play the course.

On a personal note I would like to thank my long standing squash opponent from Whitecraigs Tennis and Squash Club, fellow member of Ranfurly Castle over many years and whizz kid unsurpassed on the computer. You have got it in one – Carol. Always ask a busy person to help you out.

Maybe Carol won’t quite reach the heights of the aforesaid but as far as we are all concerned, in Scottish Golf, county golf, vets golf and club golf we are all so grateful for the amount of time and effort given on our behalf. Thank you Carol for all you do for us.

Well done West Kilbride who come top of Division 2 with 50 and a half points with Largs 2nd in the Division with 47 and a half points. They both head for Division 1 and we wish them a successful 2012 season. Largs were promoted from Division 3 last year and we congratulate them in gaining promotion again this year to Division 1.

Windyhill Ladies Celebrate Allander League Win at Annual Prize Giving

Windyhill Allander Team

Windyhill Ladies celebrated winning the Allander League for the first time since 2003 at their annual prize giving on Saturday night. The team played 9 matches against other clubs in the Dumbartonshire area, winning seven and drawing two which was a great result for the team.

The club also saw success with Carol Whyte and Tracy Masterton reaching the final stages of the Daily Mail Foursomes competition in at Dalmahoy last week. Unfortunately due to the bad weather the format of the competition had to be changed and the pair did not make it to the final, but it was a great achievement to win through seven rounds to reach the final in the first place.

Louise Kenney (Pitreavie), who won her first Scottish Ladies’ Championship at Machrihanish in May, has regained the Scottish Ladies’ Golfing Association’s Order of Merit title.
The primary school teacher had a terrific season. In addition to the National title, she also won the East of Scotland and Fife County Championships and finished third at the Helen Holm Scottish Open Stroke-play Championship at Troon.
She also made her Great Britain and Ireland debut in the Vagliano Trophy match against the Continent of Europe in Wales in June – and now has her sights set on next year’s Curtis Cup at Nairn.
Kenney, pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency, won the SLGA Order of Merit title for a first time in 2009 and, this year, she amassed 2,375 points to finish comfortably ahead of second placed Pamela Pretswell (Bothwell Castle).
Pretswell, who missed several events because of university commitments, still gained 1,800 points in what could be her final amateur season. She has entered the Ladies’ European Tour qualifying school early next year.
Eildih Briggs (Kilmacolm), who retained the SLGA’s Girls’ Order of Merit title, finished third on the senior list with 1,647 points. The teenager finished runner-up to Kenney in the Scottish Women’s Championship and made her senior team debut at September’s Home Internationals.
Kelsey MacDonald (Nairn Dunbar), who highlighted her season with a record fourth straight win in the Scottish Junior Open Strokeplay Championship, was defending the Order of Merit title but slipped to eighth with 1,053 points.

Connie Jaffrey is the Junior Champion of Champions

Connie Jaffrey of Troon Ladies finished her season seasons in style with a victory in the Junior Champion of Champions over The Duke’s Course, St Andrews, today.
Ayrshire County Team player Connie and North Berwick's Clara Young were nip and tuck throughout the day. The turning point came at the 14th where Clara lost a ball after a poor tee shot to drop two shots.
The 15-year-old’s, both members of the SLGA training squads for 2011-12 and playing off two handicaps, rounded off fine seasons with their efforts.
Connie, winner of two Junior Opens this year, said: “It was a good game between myself and Clara, it was always going to be quite close. It was tough to score so I’m delighted to win.
“My handicap was five at the start of the year, I got down to one and then back up to two, so it’s been a good year.”
Clara can also look back on 2011 with fondness after representing Scotland in the girls' Home Internationals and girls' European Team Championship, and playing for Great Britain and Ireland in the Junior Vagliano Trophy.
Linsey Stevenson (Elie and Earlsferry and Whitecraigs) was the next best West of Scotland player with a gross 75.

Division 1: Ranfurly Castle and Gleddoch were level on points and games won. Ranfurly Castle were confirmed as the winners after a count back of "holes up".

13 Ranfurly Castle Greenlees Team players enjoyed an end of season outing to Dundonald Links last Friday--- 14th October 2011.
After a spot of lunch a Team Stableford Waltz was played (1 score to count at the first, 2 at the 2nd and 3 at the 3rd hole then back to one score again).
The weather held out apart from a bad shower in the middle.
The winning team who received 3/4 of their handicap (due to being a team of 4) was Anne Judge, Marion Munro, Maureen Cook and Sarah Ekford with 72 points. The Runners up team was Carol Fell, Iona Stephen and Nancy MacGadie with 63 points. Sarah and Iona had the best individual scores with 33 points each.
Fiona Roger was nearest the pin at the 6th. However, since she had donated a glove, Carol Fell received it for having a 2 at the 6th.
Unfortunately we were sorry that we had two call offs at the last moment --- Lesley Robertson, who had work commitments and Denise Cowan who has damaged her cruciate ligament -- Denise we wish you a speedy recovery.
We all then went to North Gailes after the match for refreshments and a lovely meal.

Adam Hunter - Mearns Castle Golf Academy

As you may have already heard, it is with great sadness that the Mearns Castle Golf Academy’s Director of Instruction, Adam Hunter, passed away on Friday night, after a 2 year battle with Leukaemia.

Adam was one of the key people in the original development of the Golf Academy, and played a huge part in creating a coaching school that has improved the standard of thousands of golfers in the West of Scotland.His philosophies and coaching methods have inspired so many golfers. His Kids @ the Castle coaching program, which he developed, continues to teach children across East Renfrewshire all about the wonderful game of golf in a fun and informative environment.
He turned the young, raw and enthusiastic talent of Conor O’Neil, into the Scottish Boys order of merit champion, and one of Scotland’s leading exciting amateur golfers. He has spent many an agonising hour in the wind and rain trying to ‘perfect’ John Inshaw’s short game. More importantly he has taught our team of professionals more than they could ever imagine about the true ethos of golf coaching. Knowledge that they will forever treasure and continue to pass on to others.

Many will remember Adam for famously coaching Paul Lawrie to the British Open in 1999, or for when he won the Portuguese Open in 1995, defeating Darren Clarke in the play off, however for all his friends, family and colleagues, he will simply be remembered as Adam; a hard working, dedicated and honest man, who’s love for golf went beyond that of anyone you will ever meet.

Adam leaves behind a golfing legacy at Mearns Castle, which we will forever cherish.

Adam's funeral will be held on Friday the 21st of October at the 10.15am at the Daldowie Crematorium.

SLGA Junior Order of Merit Award - Eilidh Briggs is the Winner

Eilidh with her Scottish Girls' Championship Trophy

West of Scotland's Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm) has completed a great season and ended her Under-18 years junior golf career in style by winning the Scottish Ladies' Golfing Association's Girls' Order of Merit title for the third year in a row.
Runner-up in the Scottish Women's Amateur Championship at Machrihanish the start of the season, Eilidh won the Scottish Girls' Championship at Glenisla Gof Club in July.
She also won the Renfrewshire County and West of Scotland titles and made her Scottish team senior debut at the Home Internationals at Hillside in September.
On Sunday Eilidh won the SLGA Champion of Champions tournament at Glasgow Gailes.
"It has been a great season and making the Home Internationals was a huge goal this year," said Eilidh. "In the foursomes, I had the chance to play alongside my sister (Megan) which was great."
Eilidh has just taken up a golf scholarship at Stirling University, following in the footsteps of Scotland's most successful female golfer, Catriona Matthew.

Eildih won the Order of Merit with 1,941 points and was closely followed by Rachel Walker (Dumfries and County), who finished second with 1,813 points.

Jessica Meek (Carnoustie) was third with 1,683 points and Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) was fourth with 1,550 points and in 5th position was Renfrewshire's Alyson McKechin with 1485 point

Kilmacolm's Eilidh Briggs is the 2011 SLGA Champion of Champions

West of Scotland's Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm) won the SLGA Champion of Champions today at Glasgow Gailes. She had a 75 --- 2 under the CSS to win by one shot.
Eilidh, pictured above, with the winners trophy has had a fantastic season by winning the Renfrewshire County Championship, the Scottish Under-18 girls match-play championship at Glenisle and reaching the final of the Scottish women's amateur championship at Machrihanish. She also gained her first full cap, along with sister Megan, at the women's home internationals at Hillside.
Eilidh, with her dad Ian on her bag, matched the women's par of 75 and was two under the CSS for the day.
"I had never even seen the Glasgow Gailes course before," said Eilidh, "so it was a great help to have my dad guiding me round. He had previously caddied for my sister in this tournament so he knew a lot more about how to play Glasgow Gailes than I did."
Susan Jackson (Ladybank), runner-up with a 76, was in much the same boat as Elidh because she too had never seen the course before, let alone played a practice round over it. So she did very well to finish only one over par.
Young Ailsa Summers (Carnoustie Ladies) was third with a 78, one shot ahead of Scottish women's champion Louise Kenney (Pitreavie), who also qualified as Fife county and East of Scotland champion..
Clara Young (North Berwick), the youngest player ever to win the East Lothian women's county champion was fifth with a 79. A total of 16 players made up the field.

NOW WORLD-RANKED No 29, BUT PAMELA PRETSWELL MUST PRE-QUALIFY

Hamilton's Pamela Pretswell moved up three places to No 29 in the Women's World Amateur Golf Rankings this midweek on the strength of her finishing third in rain-shortened French women's amateur international tournament at Morfontaine at the weekend.
This means the Bothwell Castle GC member will have to play in the 72-hole pre-qualifying event at the Ladies European Tour School at La Manga, Spain from January 8 to 11.

SCOTS PAIR MATCH PARIS PAR ON LET DEVELOPMENTAL TOUR

Scots Pamela Feggans from Patna, Ayrshire and Heather MacRae (Gleneagles) are sharing 18th place on par 72 after the first round of the LET development tour event, the Trophee Prevens tournament at Golf de Bussy near Paris today (Thursday).
Feggans, pictured, who birdied the sixth, ninth, 13th and 14th, was heading for a sub-par round until she ran up a double bogey 5 at the short 17th.
Katy McNicoll from Carnoustie had a 76, with only one birdie, to be in joint 44th position while Glasgow's Gemma Webster started with a double bogey 6, had another at the 15th followed by a triple bogey 7 at the 16th, which all added up to a 78 and a share of 51st place.
Joint leaders on six-under 66 are former British girls champion Henrietta Zuel from England and France's Melodie Bourdy.
Henrietta, whose surname was Brockway when she won the British Under-18 amateur title, has already won twice on the LET Access Series.

British international amateur golfer Pamela Pretswell from Hamilton is waiting for the midweek updating of the Women’s World Amateur Rankings with more than her normal interest.
The top 25 world-ranked players at the closing date of December 7 for the Ladies European Tour Qualifying School at La Manga in January will be exempt from playing in the pre-qualifying tournament over 72 holes from January 8 to 11.
They will go straight into the Final Q School field over 90 holes at La Manga from January 15 to 19.
Bothwell Castle GC member Pamela, 22-year-old graduate of Glasgow University , finished third in the French women’s amateur international championship at the weekend when rain washed out the final round and deprived the Scot the opportunity of regaining the lead she held at the end of 18 holes.
“I have my fingers crossed that the revised rankings this week will push me up from my current ranking of No 32 into the top 25, but I have to be honest and say that I think is unlikely I will be moved up seven places on the strenth of finishing third in the French championship,” said down-to-earth Pamela.
“Therefore, I am planning to do both stages at La Manga. Exemption would be a very welcome bonus but I love the courses at the Spanish resort. I was a member of the Scotland side that won bronze medals at La Manga in the European women’s team championship last year.
“I love the courses and the La Manga resort as well so last year’s experience will surely be some benefit to me. I hope the happy times at La Manga will continue and I am hoping to play in the Ladies European Tour Access event at the Spanish venue next month.
“That would be perfect preparation for the Q School and a good opportunity to play with the professionals and see how I measure up to them.”
Pamela, who played for Great Britain and Ireland in the Curtis Cup of 2010, the Vagliano Trophy matches of 2009 and 2011 and the team of five that won the Astor Trophy at Fairhaven last summer, won the British women’s open amateur stroke-play at Tenby, South Wales last year.
The fact that she has never won a Scottish women’s or girls’ title might have something to do with the fact that tennis was her game – she was Junior Wimbledon class and in the same training squad as Andy Murray – until she was 14 or 15 years of age.
It was only then that Pamela made the decision to give up tennis, because of the demands of squad training were leaving her with no spare time and she knew she would be going to university.
Unearthing sponsors seems even harder for a girl who wants to be a tour professional than it is for her male equivalent and Pamela has nothing lined up. IMG have not come knocking on her door, and are unlikely to.
“I’ve had a very enjoyable season with the highlights definitely being winning the Astor Trophy with the GB and I team at Fairhaven in the summer and playing in the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Carnoustie,” said Pamela.
“I am really looking forward to Tour School and will be working very hard over the next couple of months to give myself the best chance possible to win my tour card.”
I am sure the LGU's Curtis Cup selectors will wish her the best of luck at La Manga but one could hardly blame them if they have mixed feelings because the GB and I line-up will be weakened considerably if Pamela Pretswell is not available for selection for the match against the United States at Nairn next June.

PAMELA PRETSWELL FINISHES IN THIRD PLACE IN FRENCH EVENT AFTER THE CHAMPIONSHIP IS REDUCED TO 3 ROUNDS

Bothwell Castle's Pamela Pretswell had a 72 today and was three shots off the pace after 3 rounds of the 72-hole event at Morfontaine Golf Club.
The Bothwell Castle player has had rounds of 69 74 and 72
Pamela, the first-round pacemaker with a 69, was deprived, however, of the opportunity to regain the lead when the fourth and final round of the French international women's amateur golf championship at Morfontaine was cancelled because of heavy rain.
The championship for the Cecile de Rothschild Trophy was cut to three rounds and Pamela finished third on 215 (69-74-72), three shots behind the winner, Perrine Delacour from Paris, winner of the British girls open title two years ago. Perrine scored 73, 66 and 73 for four-under-par 212.
Another French player, Fiona Puyo (72-72-70) finished second on 214, one ahead of Pretswell.
Rising English teenage star Charley Hull finished joint fourth on 217 with scores of 70, 74 and 73.
Compatriot Rachel Drummond shot 72, 74 and 73 and finished eighth on 219.

HIGHLAND SPRING JUNIOR MASTERS- KIRSTY IS TOP OF THE JUNIOR MASTERS CLASS AT GLENEAGLES

Youngsters Liam McDowell (Wigtownshire County), a 14-year-old from Glenluce, and 11-year-old Kirsty Brodie (Strathmore) from Alyth, headed the boys and girls categories in the Highland Spring Junior Masters on a wet and windy and sometimes sunny day at the Queens Course, Gleneagles today (Sunday).
They headed a field of 81 who qualified from regional events for this Under-16 years, handicap-based Stableford points competition organised by the Scottish Golf Union, assisted by the Scottish Ladies Golfing Association and run in conjunction with clubgolf, Scotland's national junior golf development programme.
Liam, in the last boys threesome to finish broke a seven-way logjam on 34pt with an outstanding score of 36pt in the tough conditions (CSS was +2 for both the boys and girls).
Playing off 28 of a handicap – he's only been playing golf between two and three years – McDowell said he putted well in a gross round of 91.
He gained 19pt on the outward half and 17pt coming home.
Of the "gang" on 34pt, Michael Brodie (Strathmore) (6) was placed second on a card countback, just ahead of Calum Taggart (Eastwood) (12).
Kirsty Brodie, who has been playing the game since she was four years old, and has 13 of a handicap, had the best score of the day – an excellent total of 40pt.- round in 83 gross – 46 out, 36 in – Kirsty collected 18 pt before the turn and 22pt on the inward half.#
Kirsty won by 3pt from Jemma Brown (St Regulus) (9) with 37pt with Alexandra Mennie (Elie and Earlsferry Ladies) (21) third on 36pt.

The Bothwell Castle player has had rounds of 69 and 74 for a one-under-par tally of 143.

Having already had to reschedule their Open Day after the atrocious weather of 11th, September, the ladies of Skelmorlie Golf Club were somewhat despondent early on Sunday as they looked out on mist shrouded fairways and yet another heavy downpour. Fortunately though the rain gods decided that enough was enough and before long the clouds lifted, the rain ceased and the sun even appeared, lifting spirits considerably and causing the 30 pairs of competitors to doff waterproofs and search for the sunscreen buried deeply in the pockets of their golf bags.
So what looked like another soggy Sunday turned out to be a most enjoyable day’s golf. Yes, it was extremely wet and muddy underfoot but the green-keepers’ talents ensured that the greens were in excellent shape, despite the poor weather of the past few weeks, and some low scoring ensued.
The winners of the Ladies’ Open Greensome Trophy, with a wonderful score of 63.6, were 16 year old twins Sophie and Gillian Love from Wemyss Bay. The girls have been playing at Skelmorlie since they were 10 and could barely see above their golf bags, and since then they have continued to progress year on year, winning many trophies in both club and county competitions at junior level.
This however was their first big win against a field of mainly “more mature” and experienced ladies, and it will surely not be their last.
The other prize winners are as follows:

3rd. - Sandra Cook (Greenock) and Jenny McGee (Skelmorlie) – 66.4

£300 raised for MacMillan Cancer Support at Douglas Park Golf Club

The ladies section held a social evening on Friday 30th September.

The theme was -- THE HOUSE OF COLOUR. Maggie Rutherford's sister Anne Holley from www.houseofcolour.com was the guest speaker who enlightened us all with how to step forward confidently, knowing that clothes and accessories you have chosen show the best you. Maggie was the her assistant and many admitted that perhaps we have about 85% of our wardrope that we never use !!

Captain Gillian Hendry welcomed about 45 ladies to the evening, Vice Captain Lynda Smith gave the vote of thanks and with the help of Social Convenor Janet Dow they were able to raise approximately £300 for MacMillan Cancer Support.

A buffet meal, some refreshments and much chat finished off a very enjoyable evening.

RACHAEL FINDS IT TOUGHER GOING IN SECOND US COLLEGE TOURNAMENT

Rachael McQueen from Troon, now a student at McLennan Community College, Waco in Texas, opened her US college golf career with a victory - but she found the going harder in her second tournament - the ULM Fred Marx Invitational at Bayou DeStand Country Club, Monroe in Louisiana.
Rachael finished 38th in a field of 63 with scores of 84, 79 and 78 for a total of 241 over a par-72, 5,923yd course.
She finished 20 shots behind the joint winners, Langley Vannoy (Troy) (74-71-76) and Whitney McAleer (Northeastern State) (75-76-70) on 221.
McLennan (949) finished seventh of 11 in the team event won by Troy (896) from South Alabama (902).

England retained the title in the Senior Ladies’ Home Internationals on a very wet afternoon at Tramore Golf Club in Ireland. But what an exciting finish it was to the weather-hit three-day programme.
After England and Ireland had completed Day 2 wins this morning over Scotland and Wales respectively, it meant that the England v Ireland match between the only two teams with 100 per cent winning records would be the title decider.
It went right down to the wire before England prevailed 4-3 with the last putt on the last green in the last match to finish.
Wales started well in the match for third place against Scotland. Christine Harries won by 5 and 4 against Heather Anderson in the lead-off singles, having been one up at the turn before adding to that with unanswered successes at the 10th, 12th, 13th and 14th.
But Lorna Bennett chalked up an outstanding win for Scotland by beating Welsh ace Vicki Thomas by the comprehensive margin of 6 and 5. Lorna was five up after seven holes and never allowed her opponent a chance to get back into the match.
Scotland went 2-1 ahead when Karen Ballantyne beat Karen Weatherley by 5 and 4 after winning three of the first four holes and still leading by two at the turn. Ballantyne quickened to win the 11th, 13th and 14th.
Scotland advanced to 3-1 with a one-hole victory by Mary Smith over Denise Richards who was twice two up on the outward half. Smith played the inward nine impeccably. She won the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 17th and 18th
Wales got a second point on the board when Jane Rees beat Alex Glennie by 2 and 1 after winning four of the first six holes. Glennie had a good spell approaching the turn, winning the eighth, ninth and 10th but Rees pulled away again by winning the 11th and 13th.
Elaine Allison, Scotland’s most successful player of the week, got the clinching fourth point by beating Janet Doleman 3 and 2. Allison went two up at the 10th and added successes at the 13th and 16th for victory.
The last match to finish was halved between Wales’ Ann Lewis and Scotland’s May Hughes. Lewis had looked set for victory when she won the 11th and 12th to go three up but Hughes finished strongly to salvage half a point. She won the 13th, 14th and 16th to square the match and the last two holes were halved.

It’s an England versus Ireland title decider in this afternoon’s seven-singles finale to the 9th Senior Women’s Home Internationals at Tramore Golf Club, Ireland. Both teams have won twice this week.
Defending champions England, who beat Wales 8-0 on Day 1, completed a 7-1 victory over Scotland this morning after sea mist forced a suspension of play yesterday afternoon.
Ireland, who have never won the over-50s team championship, followed up their 5-3 win over Ireland by completing a 5-3 win over Wales this morning.
Senior Ladies British champion Felicity Christine, playing No 1 for England in the singles, beat Scotland’s Heather Anderson by 5 and 4. When the match resumed at the 13th, Christine was four up, having been six up at the turn.
Anderson, who had scored her first success of the match at the 12th, also won the 13th to cut her deficit to four but the English player won the 14th to finish the match.
England went into a 5-0 lead overall when Caroline Marron beat Mary Smith by one hole. Marron was two up when play resumed this morning at the 14th.
Smith won the 14th to be only one down but Marron regained a two-hole lead by taking the 16th. The Scot was not finished yet, however. She won the 17th to be one down with one to play. The last hole was halved.
Last year’s Senior Ladies British champion at West Kilbride, Bev New made it 6-0 for England when she beat Karen Ballantyne 3 and 2. This match resumed at the 13th with New three up. The 11th and 12th had been halved and the sequence was continued this morning with the 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th beind halved, leaving New the winner by 3 and 2.
Janet Melville, former Ladies British open amateur champion, made it 7-0 for England with a hard-fought, one-hole win over Lorna Bennett. This match resumed all square at the 12th, the 10th and 11th holes being halved before the suspension of play.
The 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th were halved this morning before Melville ended the stalemate by winning the 17th to be one up with one to play. A half was all she needed at the 18th – and she got it.
Scotland’s Elaine Allison prevented England scoring an 8-0 win for the second day in a row. When her match against Rozalyn Adams resumed at the the 13th, the Scot was two up and she promptly went three up by winning the 13th.
Adams got it back to two down by winning the 16th but she had run out of holes and a half at the 17th ended the match in Allison’s favourite by 2 and 1.

SINGLES RESUMED ON FRIDAY MORNING

NO FOURSOMES IN DAY 3 PROGRAMME

Sea mist forced the suspension of play just after 4pm on Day 2 of the Senior Women's Home Internationals at Tramore Golf Club in southeast Ireland.
Play will restart at 9.15am on Thursday from the positions the players are at in their singles matches.
The foursomes will be dropped from the Day 3 programme which will be truncated to seven singles ties between England v Ireland and Wales v Scotland.
When play was halted today, this was the position in all the singles ties:

Tournament Director Gillian Roy reports from Tramore Golf Club that it is another foggy, drizzly day in southeast Ireland.
They should have played them in Scotland where ANOTHER summer-like day is forecast! In fact they will be played in Scotland next year.
Make a note of the date: October 2 to 4 at Elie and Earlsferry Golf Club in Fife.
News from the Scotland camp - they played 8-0 winners England - is that Elaine Allison (Stirling), who had a good win in the singles against Ireland, has taken the place of Alex Glennie (Kilmarnock Barassie) in this morning's first foursome off the tee.
Alex has pulled out due to illness.
Rain forecast for the last day of the SWHI at Tranmore.

THURSDAY MATCHES
Scotland v England, Ireland v Wales.
In the Ireland v Scotland singles, Sheena McElroy won the lead-off tie for Ireland, beating Heather Anderson 3 and 2.
McElroy won three of the first four holes and was two up at the turn. The first three holes of the inward half were halved before the Irish player went three up at the 13th. Three halves ended the match in her favour.
Lorna Bennett put Scotland’s first singles point on the board by beating Carol Wickham 5 and 4. Lorna established an edge on the outward half, standing two up after seven, having won the first, second, fourth and seventh against losses at the third and sixth. Three halved holes from the eighth to the 10th were followed by Bennett surging clear for victory.
The Scot went three up at the 11th and fourth up at the 12th before finishing off the tie by winning the 14th.
Scotland’s Elaine Allison made it 2-2 in the singles by beating Pauline Walsh 3 and 2. Alison dominated the outward half, not losing a hole and winning the third, fourth, sixth, eighth and ninth to be five up at the turn.
Walsh made a strong comeback to win the 10th and 12th, followed by the 14th and 15th after Allison had regained a four-hole lead at the 13th. Allison stopped the rot by winning the 16th for victory.
Ireland’s Pat Doran was a 9 and 7 winner over Alex Glennie who did not win a hole. Doran won seven and halved the other two on her way to a seven-hole lead at the turn. The Irish player finished the match by winning the 10th and 11th.
Mary Smith carried Scotland’s hopes of salvaging a draw if she could overturn a two-hole deficit at the turn against Helen Jones, one of Ireland’s top players - easier said than done. Jones doubled her lead by winning the 10th and 12th.but then Smith made a late charge. She won the 13th, 15th and 16th to slash her opponent’s lead to only one hole but halves at the 17th and 18th in pars saw Jones home by one hole.
