LOUDOUN GOWF CLUB RAISE £9,400 FOR AYRSHIRE CANCER SUPPORT

West of Scotland's Liz Keohone has been part of a fantastic group of golfers at Loudoun Gowf Club that have held a charity day over the past years at their golf club in Ayrshire -- It has been a lot of hard work but she and all the members are very proud of the work they have done -- as they should be.
Top winner of the raffle on May 31st was Ayrshire County team player Debbie Watt (Belleisle)  who won £500 !

Message back to the club from Ayrshire Cancer Support --

Huge thanks to everyone (the organisers, golfers, bar/catering staff, the gorgeous girls selling the raffle tickets, the photographer and to those who donated prizes, our apologises if we have missed anyone out) at Loudoun Gowf Club for once again delivering a first class Gowf competition on Sunday 31 May and for donating over £9,400.00 to ACS. Over the past 10 years Loudoun Gowf Club has donated over £100,000.00 from this annual event to Ayrshire Cancer Support, with added support from the Diageo Foundation who have fund-matched most of the donations made by Loudoun Gowf Club.
Words cannot express our gratitude not only to Loudoun Gowf Club and the Diageo Foundation but to everyone who has supported this event through the years. Your donation has helped hundreds of cancer patients, and we thank you sincerely on their behalf.

LANARKSHIRE COUNTY CHAMPION LESLEY IS THE 2015 WEST VETS CHAMPION

Lesley Lloyd - 2015 West Vets Champion
Margaret Gray (Handicap Championship Winner)

The West Vets Championship and Stewart Trophy took place at Renfrew Golf Course over the last two days.
Thursday was a very wet day and all players got a soaking. Some good golf was played nevertheless and some matches had to go to extra holes. The semi-finals and finals took place on Friday (yesterday) and apart from a strong wind and one or two showers, the sun shone most of the time. Lesley Lloyd (Hayston) --- Lanarkshire County Champion emerged the winner of the West Vets Championship in her first year with us and many congratulations go to Lesley. She deserves a rest this weekend after some of her matches had to go to extra holes - The semi final against Renfrewshire County Champion Gillian Kyle going to the 21st Hole !

Margaret Gray (Old Ranfurly) was a worthy winner of the Stewart Trophy in its first year and congratulations go to her as well. Golf is a serious game but there is always the amusing moments. Lynn McColl was bemoaning the fact that she lost three Titleist Pro V1 balls on the course during her semi-final against Margaret but Morag Key lost one ball in a ballwasher! Now, can anyone beat that? We also encountered a little grey squirrel at the 4th hole who managed to get into Marion Stewart's golf bag in the morning round and Margaret Gray's golf bag in the afternoon round. Sorry to say that neither keep any goodies for little squirrels in their bags!

SLGA MEMBERSHIP VOTE YES TO AMALGAMATION

NEWS RELEASE FROM SLGA
The Membership of the Scottish Ladies’ Golfing Association (SLGA) has today (Saturday, February 7) backed the Proposal to amalgamate with the Scottish Golf Union (SGU) after a yes vote at their Annual General Meeting.

Ladies Sections of Clubs, Ladies Clubs, County Golf Associations, Vice Presidents and Directors voted in favour of the proposed amalgamation by a unanimous margin of 204-0 at their AGM at the Edinburgh Marriott Hotel.
Voting took place on the day, with those unable to send a representative voting by proxy.

Beth Paterson, SLGA Chairman, said: “We are delighted, for a second time, the voting members of the SLGA have backed the proposal to amalgamate with the SGU. I would like to thank our members for their patience during the consultation process.
“Unifying the amateur game for men and women is a positive step for both the game and the participants. The move to a single governing body will make Scottish Golf stronger, and I know the sport will continue to be committed to increasing the number of people who play golf regularly and supporting those with talent to fulfil their potential.
“I’d like to acknowledge the work done by the Amalgamation working group under the Chairmanship of Sherriff Alastair Thornton, which has resulted in the women reaching a positive decision today.
“Amalgamation between the SGU and the SLGA is in the best interests of golf and we sincerely hope that the SGU will gain the support for amalgamation from their shareholders, so we can look forward to a new era and to realising our vision for the future.”
Shortly before Christmas, the Proposal to amalgamate the SGU and the SLGA into a single unified governing body for amateur golf in Scotland was finalised, one that can herald an exciting “new era” for Scottish Golf and one fundamentally important for the future of the game.
In clear terms, the proposal outlines how amalgamation can provide a platform for a new governing body to lead Scottish Golf positively into the future, help clubs be viable and vibrant and attract more people of all ages and gender into the sport.
Tom Craig, SGU Chairman, added: “I’m delighted the Membership of the Scottish Ladies’ Golfing Association has voted in favour of the Proposal to amalgamate. It is now over to the SGU clubs and the 16 SGU Area Associations to make their decision.
“This is an historic opportunity to step confidently forward together as one – Areas, Counties, clubs and staff – and share knowledge and ideas to make the game at all levels stronger.”
Presently, all clubs affiliated to the SGU are being urged to vote in an independent Poll which is open until February 27 as part of the Proposal to amalgamate with the SLGA.

PROPOSAL TO AMALGAMATE THE SGU AND SLGA HAS NOW BEEN FINALISED

SGU and SLGA NEWS RELEASE

The proposal to amalgamate the Scottish Golf Union (SGU) and the Scottish Ladies’ Golfing Association (SLGA) into a single unified governing body for amateur golf in Scotland has been finalised, one that can herald an exciting “new era” for Scottish Golf.

Outlining their clear vision for the game in the proposal, the Chairs of the SGU and SLGA, Tom Craig and Beth Paterson, stress that amalgamation is fundamentally important for the future of golf in Scotland.

To meet the many challenges currently facing the game, the proposal outlines how amalgamation can provide a platform for a new governing body to lead Scottish golf positively into the future, help Clubs be viable and vibrant and attract more people of all ages and gender into the sport.

With the Boards of the SGU and the SLGA both in agreement regarding the proposal, it has now been distributed to the memberships of each organisation – namely the SGU’s 16 area associations, the SLGA’s 15 county golf associations, ladies' golf clubs and ladies' sections of clubs and all affiliated clubs in Scotland for them to consider as approval is sought over the coming months.

KEY FEATURES

Key features of the proposal include clubs becoming full voting members for the first time, with areas and counties to have a substantial collective vote, equivalent in aggregate to approximately one third of the overall vote.
The roles of the areas and counties are to remain unchanged, meaning they don’t have to merge. National and regional forums are also to be established to help communication to and from grass roots golfers and clubs.

The amalgamation proposal and supporting documents can be accessed both on the SGU website at http://www.scottishgolf.org/who-we-are/sguslga-amalgamation/ and on the SLGA website at http://slga.co.uk/amalgamation/

Expressing the importance of amalgamation, the Chairs said in a joint-statement: “This is the most significant issue in Scottish Golf and the amalgamation proposal is the best and only option to amalgamate. We encourage all areas, counties and clubs to support it.

PLATFORM FOR NEW ERA

“Amalgamation can provide a platform for a new governing body to lead Scottish Golf boldly into a new era. We want our clubs to be healthy and vibrant, to be welcoming places for men, women, boys and girls to enjoy our wonderful game, and to help attract more people to participate in golf throughout Scotland.
"Amalgamation is absolutely in the best interests of all stakeholders in Scottish Golf and sends the right message about the inclusivity of the sport we all love.”

Back in March of this year, a joint working group, comprising five representatives from each of the SGU and the SLGA, independently chaired by Sheriff Alastair Thornton, circulated an amalgamation consultation proposal to all areas, counties and golf clubs in Scotland.

Following a wide ranging consultation process up to the end of July during which every golf club, area and county, as well as all golfers and other interested parties had the opportunity to input, the joint working group analysed and considered the feedback before publishing its final proposal.

Greenlees Trophy Divisional Results
Report by Greenlees Secretary Anne Dunn

We had a very nice lunch at Cardross on Tuesday 21st October with about 50 people attending. The Lady Captain made a lovely welcoming speech saying that the Greenlees League came third after Scotland's other two outstanding sporting events - The Commonwealth Games and the Ryder Cup!!!

We had a delicious meal and finished with the Presentation of Prizes. All the winners spoke after they received their cups and all were very proud of their achievement, particularly Cathkin Braes. I think their celebrations at their club will go on into 2015!!

Despite this being my third lunch as Greenlees Secretary I do not find it gets any easier.

Here is Anne's Speech

Firstly I would like to welcome Senga, the Lady Captain of Cardross and thank her for her very kind words of welcome and for finding the time to join us for lunch.

Secondly I would like to thank the Club Captain and committee for allowing us to hold this function here and for their very kind donation of wine both on arrival and during the lunch.

Thirdly, and most importantly I would like to thank Margaret Stirling for all her hard work in organizing this lunch today. I am sure she is relieved to think that it will only be another 27 years till she has to do it all over again!!
I would like to pass on Carol Fell’s apologies for being unable to attend the lunch today but I am afraid family circumstances make it impossible. If anybody has photographs of today could you please send them to her.
Now to the Presentation of Prizes.

Division Three
Williamwood had a spectacular season gaining 61 points and a very well deserved move up to Division 2.
Ayr Belleisle is moving up with them – well done the new comers.

Division Two
This was a closer fought division but West Kilbride came out the very worthy winners with 45 points.
The will be moving up to Division 1 in the company of Whitecraigs.

Division 1
What a surprise after having the same winner for five years we have new winner this year – Cathkin Braes. They have been knocking on the door for a few years and this year finally made it. Congratulations.
Finally the runners up, Milngavie but I am sure there will be a fight back next year.

Final Results :
Division 1 : Cathkin Braes Greenlees Trophy Winners, Milngavie (Runners Up)
Relegated: Largs and Prestwick St Nicholas
Division 2: Winners West Kilbride,  Runners Up -  Whitecraigs

SKELMORLIE ARE IN THE PINK !

PINK MEDAL – FRIDAY the 19th SEPTEMBER
One of the best turnouts we have had for any competition this year with 23 ladies taking part. Add in the 26 men who played their own competition throughout the day and you get a course and clubhouse which were ablaze with good humour, amazing pink outfits and lots of laughs. Everyone was extremely generous and the final total raised from all our fundraising efforts both on the day and from collections at West College Scotland, Greenock Campus, were a fantastic £1600 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer Charity – a very worthwhile cause.

Thanks go to Gillian Pollock (Lady Captain of Skelmorlie Golf Club) for the report and photograph.
