A breathtaking back nine of seven-under 30 took Scotland’s Catriona Matthew into a tie at the top of the leader board on day two at the RICOH Women’s British Open.

She had a Hole in One at the 12th today and is currently 3 Under Par for the 2 rounds and sharing the lead so far

Skipper Mary McKenna's Great Britain & Ireland team finished with their tails up by winning the final singles 5-3 - the only one of the four sessions of play over the two days that they did not lose - but the Continent of Europe retained the Vagliano Trophy women's biennial amateur international trophy by a 13-11 margin at Hamburger Golf Club, Falkenstein in Germany.
Pamela Pretswell (Bothwell Castle)and Kylie Walker (Buchanan Castle) halved their foursomes tie this morning and Pamela had a comfortable win in the singles this afternoon.

West Kilbride to stage new girls' Open Tournament -- Get your entry in

CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRY -- 27th JULY
West Kilbride Golf Club's girls' section has grown from two at the time our support group took over in 2004 to 36 after this year's intake.
In recognition of this the club have given permission for a new girls' open tournament to be held on Thursday, August 6 2009.
Nancy Chisholm, past president of Scottish Ladies Golfing Association, has agreed to present us with a trophy in her name for the scratch award.
June Kerr, Ayrshire county girls convenor, will put up a trophy for the pre-handicap section and local bakery business Kandy Bar will provide sponsorship and a handicap trophy.
"We are arranging a variety of attractions on the day and aim to make our event a fixture in girl golfers' diaries for years to come," said Keith who is also heavily involved in the Scottish Seniors Golfing Society.

Stewart Cink beats tiring Tom Watson in four-hole play-off for Open title

American Ryder Cup player Stewart Cink is the new Open champion, snatching the title from the hands of compatriot Tom Watson in a four-hole play off after they tied on a two-under-par total of 278 at Turnberry this evening.
Watson, who had turned the clock back all week, ran out of time in his bid to win his sixth Open over the same course where he won his second in 1977. The dream ended in anti-climatic fashion as the 59-year-old five-time champion wearied over the extra holes and destroyed his chances when he took two shots to force himself clear of the thick rough to the left of the 17th fairway. As they walked off that green he trailed 36-year-old Cink by four shots.
The final hole was a formality. Watson blocked his tee shot into the crowd and was in rough short of the green in two. Cink hit two perfect shots to less then three feet and tapped in the winning putt. Watson, sadly, trailed by six shots.
Unfortunately for the talented Cink, who has earned his place in the higher echelons of the game, he was cast in the role of villain.
Playing in his 50th major championship, Cink created his shot at the title with a closing round of 69, making up three shots on Watson over the final 18 holes. He has won five tournaments on the US PGA Tour over the past 12 years and has played in 11 Opens with a previous best of tied for sixth at Carnoustie in 2007.
He took up the game when his parents, both single handicap players, left him at the driving range before he was old enough to go on the course.
“I grew up watching Tom Watson on television and hoped I could one day follow in his footsteps,” said Cink. “I never expected to be playing against him. It has been a surreal experience on one of my favourite courses in this wonderful championship.”
Ross Fisher started his last round birdie-birdie to take the lead but ran up a catastrophic quadruple bogey 8 a few holes later and his chance had gone.
Lee Westwood was in the leading pair on and off after that but dropped crucial shots over the last few holes and he too finished with an anti-climax of three putts on the 18th to fall out of joint second place.
Chris Wood, the Englishman who won the silver medal as leading amateur at Royal Birkdale 12 months ago, did amazingly well as a rookie pro to tie for third place with Westwood on 279.

Banff 5 day Tournament -- Lesley Watson is a winner

Cogratulations go to Lesley Watson of Cambuslang who beat Ros Dunsmuir (Cruden Bay) on the 18th to win the Doune Cup (Scratch Competition) at Duff House Royal in their Banff Open Week.
Agnes Carter of Kirkintilloch won the Low Handicap competition.
Also of note was Vicky Lindsay of Kirkintilloch who has not been in the best of health recently and hadn't played in a competition this year, went out in a buggy and shot a 66 (6 under her handicap), got cut and qualified for the matchplay. Unfortunately she lost in the first round. Not bad though for a Lady in her eighties. She's also entered for next year !
There were 195 entrants taking part in this Golfing Week and I have been informed that Brenda Livingstone (Lamlash) was the oldest qualifier in the Scratch Section!!
Well done to all in the West of Scotland who took part in this excellent golfing week

Ailsa Bain (Peebles) is the new Scottish Under-18 girls (close) amateur champion.
She beat Sammy Vass (Tain) by two holes in the 18-hole final at Lanark Golf Club this morning.

Sammy was two up after three, having won the long second with a par 5 and being conceded the second but she won only one more hole on the outward half - the short eighth - while Ailsa came on to ther game to win the fifth, sixth and eighth to be all square at the turn.
Ailsa made the move that would ultimately make her champion by w9inning the 10th, 12th and 13th to go three up.
Sammy rallied to win the 16th with a birdie and the 17th with a par to be one down on the 18th tee.
Ailsa clinched the title with a par at the short 18th to finish two holes up.
Ailsa was 20th the the 32 qualifiers for the match-play stages.
Sammy was 11th.

Kilmacolm's Eilidh Briggs loses in the Quarter Finals of the Scottish Girls at Lanark

Renfrewshire's Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm), the No 2 seed, was beaten at the 20th by Rachel Hanlon (St Regulus) in this morning's quarter-finals of the Scottish Girls (close) Championship at Lanark Golf Club.
No 1 seed Rachael Watton (Mortonhall) progressed to the last four with a 2 and 1 win over Lesley Atkins (Minto). She was then beaten by Ailsa Bain (Peebles) who as a Borders representative had progressed to the afternoon's semi-finals with a one-hole win over Rachael Taylor (Bad Griesbach).
Sammy Vass (Tain), the North standard-bearer, beat the surprise packet of the championship, 30th qualifier Jessica Meek (Carnoustie) by 2 and 1 in the morning and then won by 1 hole against Rachael Hanlon in the afternoon.

The date and venue is now confirmed for my ALL-Women Pro-am! The event will be held at Archerfield Links Golf Club over the Fidra course on 21st August 2009.
I am delighted to have the co-operation of Archerfield Links, this fantastic and exclusive venue will be the perfect setting for what will prove to be an excellent and enlightening fun filled day for all involved! I am also excited at the prospect of having the Top Scottish Lady Professionals of the Ladies European Tour and the PGA all together for the event to make your day most entertaining!
Availibility for teams is Limited....I have space for ONLY 10 teams of 3 amateur players! Cost of entry for Each Team will be £495.
This will include:

Tea/Coffee & Bacon Roll on Arrival
Short Teaching Clinic/Q&A session.
18 holes (Format TBC)
Prizegiving
3 Course Dinner inc wine.

Also, I have specifically chosen this date as it coincides with day one of the 2009 Solheim Cup which is being played in the USA. Following dinner, coverage of the Solheim Cup will be screened for us in the clubhouse should you so wish to make an evening of it!
I have also agreed a very special rate of £150/twin room in the Pavillion rooms within Archerfield, however there is limited availability on the number of rooms available.
I can provide further information on alternative accommodation on entry should you so require.
