LOCAL PLAYER MAUREEN WOODHEAD WINS RENFREWSHIRE JUNE MEDAL AT GOUROCK AND EMMA KENNEDY WINS THE SCRATCH

A smaller field than normal played in today's June Medal at Gourock GC, partly due to it's location and partly due to the West Vets match at Kilmacolm, which tied up some of the RLCGA players
Sadly, the weather forecast didn't get it right today.... dry in the morning and showers in the afternoon and evening it said. So we had showers and a fair breeze in the morning, drier in the afternoon and torrential rain at night time when the pesky midges came out to play !

Maureen Woodhead - Winner of June Medal and Division 1
The difficult conditions were reflected in the scores, however local player Maureen Woodhead returned an impressive gross 84, nett 75 to win Division 1 and the Medal with Emma Kennedy (Paisley) - pictured below winning the Scratch with an 83.

Emma Kennedy - Scratch Winner

Maureen Neilson - Winner of Division 2

Maureen Neilson, from nearby Greenock Golf Club, was the winner of division 2 handicap section with a gross 93, net 79. It must be 'Mo's' new cataract free eyes that made all the difference.

Even though we didn't enjoy the best of weather, the views when the sky did clear a bit were amazing and the view from the 18th tee is fantastic....playing it is another matter !

ABERDEENSHIRE BEAT P&K TO WIN NORTH DIVISIONAL TITLE AT STRATHMORE

By COLIN FARQUHARSON

Aberdeenshire will go to the Scottish women's county golf finals at Kilmacolm GC, Renfrewshire in September as North Divisional champions.
They overpowered title-holders Perth and Kinross 8-1 in the final match between the two teams with 100 per cent winning records after two days' play at Strathmore Golf Centre, near Alyth.

Aberdeenshire took a grip on the outcome when they won the morning foursomes 3-0, leaving them needing only two wins from the final six singles for victory.
But the rampant Aberdeenshire did more than that. They took the singles 5-1 for an emphatic victory margin.
Shire's top player was Hazlehead teenager Jasmine Mackintosh (pictured bottom row left ) who won all six of her ties, which made her the MVP of the tournament. But she was strongly supported by Sammy Leslie and Kim Beveridge who both finishes with 5.5pt out of six and 14-year-old Carmen Griffiths, Aberdeenshire's youngest ever county champion, who won four out of six.

Northern Counties avoided the wooden spoon by finishing third, thanks to a 7.5-1.5 victory over pointless Angus.
Hannah McCook was Northern Counties' top performer with five wins out of six.

Aberdeenshire won the North Divisional title two years ago at Edzell but finished runners-up in the county finals held at Aboyne that year.

MESSAGE FROM THE BIRTHDAY RLCGA CAPTAIN JUNE LOCKHART

WEST  JAMBOREE  CHAMPIONS  2018

After the tension of the final day’s play in the Jamboree, it is only now I have been able to calm down and compose this message.  The Team pulled off an amazing victory at Erskine, and I’m sure you are all proud of them.

Not only were their performances amazing, but their behaviour both on and off the course was exemplary. However they realise just how important your support has been, especially at Erskine and afterwards with your messages of congratulation.

As mentioned at the Prize-Giving, we have to thank Marilyn Muir (Caddy Mistress), Maureen Mitchell  (wonderful flower arrangements), Jennifer Mack (Starter), Fiona Armour (photographs – loads of them and if you would like a full quality photo - then email Fiona and she will get back to you ) and Carol Fell (Reports and putting all the photos into albums for the web).

Our Secretary, Carol McNally, did a wonderful job both in the lead up and during the Jamboree itself.  Erskine Golf Club did itself proud over those 3 days, and we cannot but thank all the staff concerned.

For a small County, we certainly pull out all the stops – players, workers and supporters.  Once again, many thanks and hopefully we will continue to have your support at Kilmacolm from the 14th- 16th September at the County Finals.

With heartfelt thanks,

June  (a very proud Captain of RLCGA)
