AYRSHIRE COUNTY LADIES HONOUR JUNE KERR

June Kerr

At last weeks AGM Ayrshire Ladies unanimously agree to bestow Honorary Membership on June Kerr (West Kilbride)

June took over the job of Ayrshire Girls Junior Convenor back in 2000 and has dedicated the last 18 years to the role. So many Ayrshire girls have benefited from this dedication and have gone on to great things with many representing their county and country at Junior and Senior level.

June is one of only 5 Honorary Members of ALCGA which demonstrates the level of appreciation shown by the Captain, committee and members.

Well done June and thank you.

Thanks go to Ayrshire’s Secretary Ann Wallace for the news and photograph

Proud Ayrshire Junior Convenor June Kerr with the 2013 Scottish Under 18's Champion

You webmaster remembers how delighted she was when a young Connie Jaffrey won the 2013 Under 18's Scottish Championship at Ranfurly Castle
She said to me  that she was there to support Connie in the final that day back in July 2013.  She was absolutely delighted for Connie and remembers the day well when she was introduced to Connie when Connie was 8 years old.
June knew then that she had a star in her ranks !!

Many congratulations from all in the West of Scotland June  - you most certainly deserve the honour

SHANNON MCWILLIAM IS AWARDED LIFE MEMBERSHIP OF ABOYNE GOLF CLUB.

Shannon McWilliam receiving her framed photos of the Curtis Cup
from Club President Justin Grant

By Nigel  Bradburn

At the season end prizegiving ceremony held at Aboyne Golf Club on Friday evening, the club bestowed on Shannon McWilliam the prestigious award of Honorary Life Membership in recognition of her outstanding achievements in the Amateur Game.

Making the award, Club President Justin Grant said “It is over 20 years since Aboyne Golf Club was able to make such an award, but Shannon has had an outstanding few years culminating in being selected to play for GB&I in the Curtis Cup this season. Amongst some of her many highlights (although there are too many to list) include: -

2014
• Aged 14, youngest ever Aberdeenshire County Champion, also winning the Under 18 title later that year
• Represented European Girls team in Slovakia

2015
• 3rd in Helen Holm Scottish Open
• British Girls Team Trophy
• Nominated for the Scottish Golfer of the year

2016
• Scottish Ladies Order of Merit winner
• top 10 finish at the Alfred Dunhill Cup with Joakim Lagergren
• Broke the course record at Aboyne, 7 under par,

2017
• Runner up in the Helen Holm Scottish Open
• Won the Lady Heathcoat-Amory memorial medal for the lowest qualifying score for the
British Girls Championships

2018
• Winner at Borders Ladies championship in South Africa
• 2nd in South African Woman’s Masters – winning the Sally Little Trophy for leading Amateur
• 4th in Helen Holm Scottish Open
• Team County Champions with Aberdeenshire ladies

Shannon made her First full international cap in the Home Internationals in 2015 aged 16, taking 3 points from 5 matches. Further caps followed in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

She went on to represent GB&I as the only Scot selected at the Curtis Cup in Quaker Ridge, New York. Although the overall result was a disappointing one for GB&I, against a very strong US team,

Shannon picked up a half point for the team, and following her narrow defeat in her singles match against the World No 6 Lauren Stephenson, I can safely say that she did not look out of place mixing it with the world’s best.

For outstanding achievements in the Amateur Game, Aboyne Golf Club would like to present Shannon McWilliam with a lifetime Honorary Membership.“

Shannon, aged 18, is a former pupil at Aboyne Academy who still lives in Torphins.

In her acceptance speech Shannon said "A huge thank you to Aboyne Golf for presenting me with Honorary Membership. I can’t thank the club and members enough for the support they gave me throughout the Curtis Cup and over the years.  I am very proud to be an Honorary Member."

LAURA MURRAY WINS THE SANTANDER GOLF TOUR DE CÁCERES SPAIN

With a final score of seven under par, Scotlands Laura Murray (pictured above) won the Santander Golf Tour at  Norba Golf Club Cáceres in Spain.

Once the day was over and the results were known, Murray was happy to have won the trophy in Cáceres: "Victory means a lot to me. I've had a season of ups and downs, and it's good to have won. It has been fantastic and I have enjoyed every moment of it. "

RENFREWSHIRE COUNTY WINTER FOURSOMES -- EAST RENFREWSHIRE PAIR DEFEAT THE 2017 TITLE HOLDERS

Gillian Kyle and Carole Spy (East Renfrewshire) played against the 2017 RLCGA Winter Foursomes Champions-Alyson McGinnigle (Cowglen) and Carol McNally (Williamwood) -  in beautiful autumn sunshine on Friday 26th October at Cowglen GC.

The away pairing appreciated the 5 shots they were receiving and used most of them wisely.

The front 9 finished all square despite Alyson and Carol being 1up 3 times. Gillian and Carole were the steadier pair at the beginning of the back 9 and were 2up after 12 holes but good pars at the tricky 13th and 14th  by the “home” pair, saw the match squared once again. The away couple won the 15th with a tidy 4 then with the 16th halved in 3s, they were 1up with 2 to play.

Both couples got a 5 at the long 17th but with a shot being given there, the match was won 2&1 by the East Renfrewshire pairing.

Cowglen was in fantastic condition and preferred lies were hardly required at all. (There was too much chat to remember to take a photo!)

RENFREWSHIRE COUNTY CAPTAIN JUNE HAS A HOLE IN ONE AT TROON

June has a Hole In One
At the Renfrewshire County Beetle Drive Fundraiser in February, Gleddoch pair Isabell Donnelly and Shirley Back outbid others for a round for 3 with President Jennifer Mack at Troon Portland.

On Sunday, with RLCGA Captain June Lockhart invited to make up the 3rd player, the event took place.
Although the weather was challenging at first, it was dry for most of the round and the course was in excellent condition.
The ‘oldies’ played the ‘youngsters’ (no names need to be mentioned !) and a very competitive match ended all square, where Captain June made her first contribution at the par 3 4th with a hole-in-one !
As we were the only customers upstairs all day, it was not an expensive celebration – a typical Aberdonian

Shirley Back, June Lockhart, Jen Mack and Isabell Donnelly

Many thanks to President Jennifer for offering such an enjoyable prize for our Silent Auction, which included lovely eats afterwards, and thanks to Isabell and Shirley for inviting me along.

This is June's 3rd hole in one -- Many Congratulations
