El equipo de damas de Glenbervie puso en una gran actuación en el Annodata Golf Club Classic Finals en España, ganando su semifinal, pero lamentablemente perdiendo en la final. 

For the non-Spanish speakers out there, the title and first paragraph above reads:

 "Very Well Done Glenbervie Ladies. The Glenbervie ladies team put in a great performance at the Annodata Golf Club Classic finals in Spain, winning their semi-final, but unfortunately losing out in the final."

 Having won through 6 earlier rounds against teams from across the UK, the Glenbervie Ladies team travelled to the Montecastillo Golf Resort in Cadiz, Spain, to play in the finals of the Annodata Golf Club Classic. 
 After two days of practice, the Glenbervie ladies took on and beat the Lambourne GC team in their semi-final. In the final, Glenbervie faced the ladies from the Links GC in Newmarket. The first two matches resulted in 1 win each, before Links GC went on to win the remaining three matches. These were close affairs, however, with one match finishing at the 17th and the other two going the full distance. 

 What a superb performance to get all the way to the final of a UK-wide competition. Everyone at Glenbervie should be very proud of what these ladies have acheived. 

 Congratulations to the team members that played in Spain - Fiona Ross, Margaret Tough, Helen Goodwin, Alison Goodwin, Elizabeth Goodwin - and to those other ladies who played in the earlier rounds.

RENFREWSHIRE WINTER FOURSOMES -- 2ND ROUND TIE - JAN MACNAB AND SHEILA SHAW ARE WINNERS

One of the 2nd round RLCGA Winter foursomes ties was played yesterday (Monday 26 November) at Caldwell Golf Club with Sheila Shaw (Caldwell) and Jan Macnab (Ranfurly Castle) taking on the East Renfrewshire pairing of Carole Spy and Past County Captain Gillian Kyle who had already beaten the 2017 - 2018 holders in the last round

It was an excellent day for golf given the time of year with sunshine and only a slight chilly wind. Winter mats were in use but the full greens were on despite an early morning frost. 

The golf was a closely contended match which swung back and forwards with Sheila and Jan being 1up at the turn and managing to cling on to win the match at the 17th after a series of good holes from Gillian and Carole looked like they were going to prevail over the back nine. 

Great shots and not-so-great shots were played by all but the match highlight was the 15th which was halved with a gross birdie 4 from Gillian and Carole, to match Sheila and Jan’s 5 (net 4)”

GREENLEES CELEBRATIONS AT THE LADIES GOLF CLUB TROON AND CONNIE HOLDS THE COURSE RECORD AND EMMA IS THE CHAMPION

The Ladies Golf Club Troon celebrated coming first in Division One of the Greenlees Trophy  2018 with afternoon tea in the club house on Sunday.

Connie Jaffrey is presented with a memento for her course record

Valerie McColl (Captain) also congratulated Connie Jaffrey on her recent Portland Course record in a club medal of gross 66 in the October medal.

SO WHATS NEW FOR 2019 BECOME A RULES GURU — PART 1 -- DROPPING THE BALL

Over the next month or so  I will be adding in some of the new rules for next year to help us all get ahead of the game for next season 

In 2019, players will continue to drop a ball when taking relief, (either free relief or under penalty) but the dropping procedure will be changed in several ways: 

• How a ball may be dropped is simplified; the only requirement will be that the ball be let go from knee height so that it falls through the air and does not touch any part of the player’s body or equipment before it hits the ground. 
• The focus of the dropping procedure will be on a specific “relief area” (either one or two club-lengths from a reference point depending on the Rule under which relief is being taken (and may have certain other limitations)). 
• The ball will need only to be dropped in and come to rest in the relief area
• No re-drop requirement if the dropped ball accidentally hits a person or object after hitting the ground but before coming to rest in the relief area. 
• If the dropped ball comes to rest outside the relief area, it will be dropped a second time; if it comes to rest outside the relief area after being dropped a second time it will be placed where it first touched the ground. 
• If the placed ball will not come to rest on that spot after two attempts, the player will then place the ball on the nearest spot (not nearer the hole) where it will come to rest.

Junior RLCGA Secretary Gillian Kyle took 12 Renfrewshire Junior girls to have coaching with Clare-Marie Macaulay at Paisley Golf Club yesterday. Preparing for the season ahead!

They all had a good time & Clare Marie had put in a lot of preparation

Clare-Marie  said "I had fantastic afternoon coaching the Renfrewshire County Girls. Great to see so much talent coming through & the amount of fun they have practising together."

CATRIONA MATTHEW FINISHES IN 3RD PLACE IN THE LET ANDALUCIA COSTA DEL SOL OPEN

Anne Van Dam from the Netherlands successfully wrapped up 2018 on the Ladies European Tour by claiming her second victory on Spanish soil this season at the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España Femenino.

The powerful hitter, who won the Estrella Damm Mediterranean Ladies Open in Sitges two months ago, fired rounds of 68, 67, 66 and 70 for a total of 13-under-par 271 at La Quinta Golf Resort in Benahavís, Marbella.

North Berwick's Catriona Matthew finished four strokes further back at six-under-par, one ahead of Spain’s Natalia Escuriola Martinez and Germany’s Olivia Cowan

The Scots, Michele Thomson finished tied 14th place, Gemma Dryburgh tied in 36th place  and Kylie Henry tied in 45th place.

Kelsey Macdonald, Carly Booth and Vikki Laing all failed to make the cut

RENFREW GOLF CLUB FESTIVE FAIR SUCCESS

Christmas Fair

Well it was spend, spend, spend last night down at Renfrew Golf Club and a fair bit of blethering in between.

With around 125 ladies in attendance it was certainly busy and the stall holders and bar staff were kept going. 

With tea, coffee, homemade mince pies and visits to the chocolate fountain keeping the shoppers sustained it was a very enjoyable pre-festive night and the raffle rounded off the night.

LOUISE IS 3RD AND HANNAH DARLING IS RUNNER UP IN THE TELEGRAPH JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP WITH THE BEST ROUND OF THE WEEK

The girls’ title at the Telegraph Vitality Junior Golf Championship at PGA Catalunya  was a close-run affair – in Sophie Johnson’s eyes at least – until the very last putt of the 54-hole finals.

Johnson looked to be in a two-way scrap with Scotland’s Louise Duncan (West Kilbride)

However, little did the England Under-18 player know that Louise's compatriot Hannah Darling (Broomieknowe) was on her way to a superb 69 – the best round of the Championship and the only player to break 70 across both finals – from the lead-out group.

 Johnson said: “I was told the scores on the 16th and I thought ‘Oh my God!’ It was an unbelievable score by Hannah so she must have played amazingly.”

As Johnson putted out, Darling, 15, sat by the galleries on the 18th before describing the enormity of her round. “After my week, this really meant a lot, but it was a case of ‘What if?’,” she admitted after a 79 and 78.

 Scotland’s Louise Duncan, a returning finalist, shares the lead on six over par with Sophie Johnson, the first-round leader.

LOUISE DUNCAN IN 2nd PLACE AFTER ROUND ONE OF VITALITY JUNIOR GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS

In each of the past two years, England’s Sophie Johnson has missed out on qualifying for the Telegraph Vitality Junior Golf Championship finals by a single shot. 

But the England Under-18 player cast aside those disappointments in fine style on Wednesday, producing the round of the day to lead the girls’ event by two shots at a sun-kissed PGA Catalunya Resort in Barcelona

Scotland’s Louise Duncan (West Kilbride) shot a fine 73 to be in 2nd place and is one clear of Charlotte Heath, another returning finalist, in the 54-hole strokeplay event.

HANNAH, LOUISE AND ELAINE WIN THE 2018 SCOTTISH ORDER OF MERIT TITLES

The female trio of Hannah McCook, Louise Duncan and Elaine Moffat are celebrating after winning their respective domestic 2018 Order of Merit titles.

Winner of the women’s title for the third year-in-a-row, Hannah McCook’s impressive season included phenomenal back-to-back victories at both the Irish and Welsh Women’s Open Stroke Play Championship, a semi-final finish in the Scottish Women’s Amateur Championship at Elie and a top-5 finish at the St Rule Trophy.

Grantown-on-Spey’s McCook also enjoyed success on the team front, playing a pivotal role in Scotland’s first Women’s Home Internationals victory since 2010 at Ballybunnion, Ireland.

Following her victories, McCook said “I’ve won a couple of University events, but this is the first time I have found some form in an International sense. At the beginning of the year my goal was to win but to have done so twice in a row was just amazing.”

At the girls’ level, West Kilbride’s Louise Duncan topped the rankings after a fantastic season which included victory in the Fairhaven Trophy, runner-up in the Xact Scottish Girls Amateur Championship and a total of seven top-10 finishes.

Elaine Moffat

In the seniors, Elaine Moffat (St Regulus Ladies) came out on top after a fine season which included three victories in six events. Moffat’s wins included the Scottish Senior Women’s Match-play Championship, the Midlands Regional Vets Championship and the SVLGA Championship.

Moffat also made her international debut, representing Scotland in both the European Team Championships and the Senior Ladies Home Internationals.
