Vivien Howe has her 1st Hole in One at Ranfurly Castle

Vivien Howe

Much excitement today at the 7th hole at Ranfurly Castle when Vivien said (very casually) after hitting a nice 7 wood shot onto the green “I think that’s a Hole-In-One”

She had heard it dropping although the rest of her playing partners had not been paying attention !!

Sure enough, the ball was in the hole.

Well done Vivien and congratulations on your 1st Hole-In-One !

Aboyne, Braemar, Ballater and Banchory.  www.royaldeesidegolfweek.co.uk

We appreciate it is exceptionally short notice but if any of your members or golfing friends would like to take one or both these slots then it would be great to see us back up to a full field of x170 golfers.

From the Scottish Golf Website

Aboyne’s Carmen Griffiths claimed the biggest win of her successful career when she beat Hamilton’s Katie Graham 4 & 2 in the final of Scottish Girls’ Amateur Championship at Strathaven.

The 2019 European Junior Vagliano Trophy team member came into the championship in second place on the 2021 Scottish Girls’ Order of Merit and she showed why she is currently ranked only behind Curtis Cup hopeful, Hannah Darling, on that list with a series of impressive victories in her march to the final.

The new champion’s toughest match came in the second round when she was taken to the 18th hole by fellow Scottish international, Rachel Foster, from Prestwick St Nicholas but she then beat Parkstone’s Alice Webb 6 & 5 in the semi-finals before proving too strong for Graham in the afternoon.

Graham had previously knocked out top seed, Forfar’s Robyn Fowlie, in the second round and then beat Shrewsbury’s Isla McDonald-O’Brien 6 & 5 to earn her place in the final.

Griffiths went ahead as early as the second hole of the final and was three ahead after ten holes before Graham clawed one back on the 11th. Griffith increased her lead again with wins on the 12th and 14th and though Graham won the 15th that reprieve proved to be short-lived when Griffiths sealed victory on the very next hole.

Lindsay Main
claimed a popular victory on her home course in the concurrent Scottish Girls’ Net Amateur Championship.

The Strathaven player beat Elderslie’s Ava Graham 2 & 1 in the semi-finals and then collected the trophy following an emphatic 7 & 6 triumph over Paisley’s Katie Dunn in the final. She was pulled back to two up when Dunn won the seventh but then won five successive holes from the eighth to clinch the Aynsley Reid Salver.

Earlier Dunn had reached the final after securing a 7 & 5 victory over Lucie Barclay from Kilmacolm.

Katie Graham Seals Last Grasp Win Against Top Seed

From the SG Website

Katie Graham from Hamilton Golf Club

Katie Graham from Hamilton
booked her place in the last four after beating top seed Robyn Fowlie in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Girls’ Amateur Championship at Strathaven.

Graham secured a convincing 4 & 3 victory over Royal Troon’s Freya Russell in the morning but then had to come from behind to claim a last gasp victory over Forfar’s Fowlie on the 19th hole.

Graham’s opponent in the last four is Isla McDonald-O’Brien from Shrewsbury who also had to go to the 19th hole in the morning before beating Hazlehead’s Rachel Mathieson and then defeated Ruby Watt from the Paul Lawrie Golf Centre 4 & 2 in the last eight.

In the other semi-final Aboyne’s Carmen Griffiths will face Alice Webb who plays out of Parkstone in Dorset who won against Jennifer Lynagh from Caldwell Golf Club by 2&1

Griffiths had a straightforward 8 & 7 victory over Strathmore’s Kirsten Miller in the first round but then had a much tougher test against Rachel Foster from Prestwick St Nicholas after lunch.

Foster reached the quarter finals of the recent Scottish Women’s Amateur Championship at Gullane where she lost to eventual champion Chloe Goadby and against Griffiths she led all the way until her opponent drew level on the 15th and then went ahead for the first time in the match on the 18th hole.

The semi-finals of the concurrent net match play competition will see Elderslie’s Ava Graham face Strathaven member Lindsay Main and Paisley’s Katie Dunne goes up against Lucie Barclay from Kilmacolm.

SCOTTISH GOLF GUIDELINES FOR MONDAY 19th JULY 2021

Following the latest COVID Update from the First Minister, Scottish Golf has been working with our partners at sportscotland and the Scottish Government to receive approval on our latest COVID-19 Guidance ahead of mainland Scotland moving to Protection Level 0 on Monday 19 July 2021.

We have now updated our guidance and all clubs should note the key changes effective from Monday 19 July:

  • Outdoor bubbles (coaching & competition) up to 500 with no participant limit per day
  • Locker Rooms/Changing Facilities can re-open
  • Indoor Hospitality extended to groups of 10 people from 4 households
  • All golf course furniture may be returned for normal use, including the removal of flagsticks, standard hole cups and bunker rakes
  • Preferred lies in bunkers may remain in place at club’s discretion, recognising that not every golfer will wish to use a communal rake

Ahead of implementing these changes, we would recommend that clubs carry out a risk assessment that is specific to the situation at their club.

While this latest update is a further step forward in the return to golf and its traditions as we know it, until such time as restrictions are lifted fully we would urge everyone to continue to risk assess for their specific environment and respect differing perspectives in relation to risk will still be evident across the wide range of golfers in Scotland.

We know that today’s update will have a positive impact on all affiliated clubs and their members, and on behalf of everyone at Scottish Golf, we would like to thank you for your continued patience and strict adherence to the restrictions that have been in place.

Keep up to date on the latest COVID-19 Updates from Scottish Golf here.

Kind regards,
Scottish Golf

SCOTLAND FINISH 4TH IN THE EUROPEAN WOMENS TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

The Sottish Team

Lorna McClymont and Susan Wood

England’s women
combined teamwork with individual brilliance to record a stunning 5-2 win against Sweden in yesterday's  final of the European Ladies’ Team Championships at Royal County Down
The triumph is England’s 11th in the event’s 62-year history

Scotland lost to Italy in the 3rd and 4th place play offs - no report

Following Report From the English website  for the semi finals and Finals go to - THE ENGLISH GOLF WEBSITE

The semi-final match-up with Scotland looked like being a classic – and didn’t disappoint.

Scotland qualified for the knockout phase as top seeds with Women’s Amateur Champion Louise Duncan, Scottish champion Chloe Goadby and Hannah Darling stalwarts of their line-up.

Scotland were quick out the traps to win both morning foursomes.

But while England were down, the team was far from out.

Toy once again led by example in the first singles game to down Darling by 3&1. In fact, she ended the week undefeated in singles.

The Cornish golfer must love the links at Royal County Down – this was also the scene for her victory in the Women’s Amateur Championship in 2019.

McGinty recorded the same winning margin against Goadby before the match came down to two clutch encounters.

Fuller holed putt after putt on the back nine to keep her match with Hazel McGarvie all square. With the game tied after 18 holes, Fuller eventually closed out the win on the 19th hole.

Belsham also showed typical grit to battle back from two down to defeat Shannon McWilliam by one hole and take England into the final.

Many congratulations go to Scotland on a fantastic week  -- Top Qualifiers and reaching the semi finals against England plus Hannah Darling being the leading individual score in the qualifying rounds.

Team: Hannah Darling (Broomieknowe) Hazel MacGarvie (Royal Troon) Shannon McWilliam (Aboyne) Chloe Goadby (St Regulus) Louise Duncan (West Kilbride) Lorna McClymont (Milngavie)  - Team Captain Susan Wood
