Speech given by Greenlees Secretary Anne Dunn

Lady Captain, Pat, Guests, Ladies what a wonderful year we have had in this Celebration Year. I personally find it hard to believe that 85 years ago somebody had the vision to think of starting, what has now become known as the Greenlees League and that it has been played for 75years.
It is still achieving its aim which is to prepare Ladies for playing for their country.

Before we go on to presenting the trophies to the League winners I would like to reiterate my sincere thanks to Cathcart Castle for running  such a successful Celebration Triam. Everybody who played in it seemed to enjoy themselves and even those who were assisting had a wonderful day. Special thanks has to go to Jean Smith and her husband who produced the leaflet about Ysobel Greenlees, and was given to every club. What a triumph of organisation for the entire day.

I would like to ask Cathcart Castle Lady Captain Pat Lavelle to present the prizes to those who one won on the day:
First were Gill Hendry, Douglas Park, Sharon Edgar, Lenzie and Linda McDougall, Greenock with 59 (B-I-H)
Second were Aileen Donaldson, West Kilbride, Margaret Gray, Old Ranfurly and Alice Brown Bothwell Castle
Third were Jill Foggo, Milngavie, Eleanor Inglis Largs and Linda Hay Eastwood with 61 (B-I-H)

On to the Presentation of Trophies. We have a new name going on the Division 1 trophy – Kilmarnock Barassie. This is the first time they have won this division and I am sure they will do their very best to retain it.
We also have a new name going on to the Division 2 trophy – Cathcart Castle. What a wonderful achievement after just coming up to Division 2 last year,
Division 3 was won by Haggs Castle who are no strangers to winning Greenlees Trophies.- CLICK HERE FOR FULL RESULTS
Unfortunately the Runners Up Trophy was missing from the presentations to which Milngavie should have been presented with.

Thank you Pat for graciously presenting all the prizes.
In conclusion I would like to thank Cathcart Castle Ladies for their wonderful hospitality both at the Triam and today. What a busy year they have had while still managing to play great golf. Thanks also to the kitchen staff and to the greens staff for their part in making these two days memorable.

May I wish you all a safe journey home, a great golfing season next year and look foward to seeing some of you at the Fixture Meeting which will be held here on Tuesday, 17th November

AYRSHIRE LOSE TO ANGUS COUNTY

Defending champions Angus made a strong start to the defence of their Scottish County Finals crown at Stranraer Golf Club, defeating Ayrshire 8-1. After taking the morning foursomes 3 nil they only needed to win two of the six singles to guarantee victory with hometown girl, Gillian Paton, leading Angus out against the talented youngster Hazel MacGarvie. Paton rushed to a 4 hole lead before Hazel pegged her back with the local girl eventually coming through 1up. The rest of the Angus team proved just too strong for Ayrshire, the only point coming from Linzi Allan who defeated Jemma Chalmers 1up.

Midlothian, who are due to face Angus on the Sunday, also made a strong start to the finals running out 7-2 winners over Dumfriesshire. Despite having won the Jamboree at Stranraer in July, Dumfriesshire could not make that advantage count. Midlothian took the morning foursomes by two games to one and pressed home their advantage with Scottish International Kate McIntosh winning 8&7 to seize the initative from Dumfriesshire. Diane Macdonald, vice-captain of Dumfriesshire scored a convincing 4&2 victory over former Scottish Champion Gabrielle MacDonald to provide some comfort to the Dumfriesshire side.

JENNIFER RANKINE WINS HAGGS CASTLE LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP

The Haggs Castle Finals Day was yesterday - Sunday 30th August .  Some dryish weather which is a bit of a surprise given the weather we have suffered this year.

The Ladies Final was Laura McGeachy, the defending Champion against RLCGA's 14 year old Jennifer Rankine.

Laura started well and was two up at the turn. Jennifer started to chip away at this lead and with wins at the 10th, 13th & 14th took the lead. Holes were then halved with Jennifer missing a putt on 17 to close out the match but leaving her 1 up going down 18. Jennifer secured a good 5 on 18 to win two up.

She is the youngest ever Ladies Champion at Haggs Castle.

Eleanor Cannon heralds fresh start as new chair of Scottish Golf Limited

NEWS RELEASE
Eleanor Cannon, a highly qualified director with an engrained passion for golf, heralds a fresh start for the sport after her appointment as the inaugural Chair of Scottish Golf Limited.

Following the historic decision to amalgamate the Scottish Golf Union (SGU) and Scottish Ladies' Golfing Association (SLGA) into a single governing body for amateur golf in Scotland from 1 October, Eleanor will use her extensive strategic and commercial background to lead the new organisation in the non-executive Chair role for an initial three year term.

Succeeding the current Chairs of both governing bodies, Tom Craig (SGU) and Beth Paterson (SLGA), Eleanor, 50, will seek to lead the ongoing development of golf in Scotland and meet the challenges the sport faces.
With a very impressive CV, Eleanor offers considerable board experience within public and private companies, and has inspired and implemented change in challenging commercial and cultural environments.
After graduating from the University of St Andrews, Eleanor started her career with Marks and Spencer PLC, before serving nine years at Tesco PLC where she became a General Manager and then Global Head of Customer Service.
She joined Scottish and Newcastle PLC in 1997 and held various Board positions during a nine-year spell, latterly as Group HR and Corporate Affairs Director. Since 2008, she has run an Executive Coaching business that specialises in enabling Chief Executives and Managing Directors deliver change within their organisations.
Eleanor, who has also held Trustee and Director positions in five charities over the past 18 years, also has a strong golf background and pedigree, with her mother, Netta Matthew, and father, Rennie Matthew, past Ladies and Club Captains at Ralston Golf Club and her father going on to become President of Glasgow Golf Union.
A former Girls champion at Ralston, Eleanor has been a member at various clubs wherever her work has taken her geographically in Scotland and is currently a member at Ranfurly Castle Golf Club in Renfrewshire.
In a joint statement, Tom and Beth said: “We are delighted that Eleanor has accepted the position of Chair of Scottish Golf Limited.
“She was the stand out candidate amongst a high quality pool of applicants for the role. Eleanor is a very experienced and talented individual. The new unified governing body for Scottish amateur golf offers huge opportunities going forward. We are confident that Eleanor is the person to lead the body into a new and exciting era for golf in Scotland.”
Eleanor said: “I’m enormously proud to have been appointed as the new Chair of Scottish Golf Limited and look forward to this exciting opportunity.
“It’s a position of great responsibility and I’m determined to help meet the many challenges the game faces in Scotland, including providing greater support to our clubs and players and projecting golf as a modern, inclusive sport with a positive image to attract more players.
“I’m a proud and passionate golfer, proud of golf’s role in the history of sport in Scotland and passionate about the values and disciplines that it instils. I now look forward to the next three years with great optimism.”
The process to recruit a new Board of Directors for Scottish Golf Limited began in May, advertising as widely as possible for applicants for these vital roles through an independent HR consultancy.
The new Chair will now be involved in the process to fill the eight other non-executive director positions, with appointments to be announced in due course.

LINDA WIN GREENOCK CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE 18TH TIME AND BREAKS KATHLEEN MCNEIL'S RECORD

Linda McDougall (Champion), Sandra Macdougall (Lady Captain) and Dorothy Fisher (Runner Up)
The Ladies Championship was played over Greenock Golf course yesterday (Saturday 1st August) in atrocious weather conditions. The rain was so heavy at times that squeegees were required on some greens to disperse the puddles.
Linda McDougall was defending her title - and this year her opponent was Dorothy Fisher, a past champion and regular finalist. The final had a particular edge this year as Linda was going all out to beat the record of 17 championships set by the late Kathleen McNeill, a past president of Renfrewshire Ladies County Golf Association, the Ladies Golf Union and Scottish Ladies Golf Association.
Both players played excellent golf on a day which saw heavy showers and gale force winds test both their skills and their concentration. Linda took control early on and was two up after two holes - but Dorothy played some excellent golf and pulled this back to one at the fourth hole. This was the pattern of the match until the 11th hole when Linda went three up and won the next hole to put pressure on her opponent.
Both players halved the 13th in pars but Linda's par at the 14th was enough to secure her an 18th championship, beating Kathleen's previous record set in 1969.

SCOTTISH UNDER 18's

Scottish U18 girls championship at Alyth
Fiona Liddell top seed for match-play
Germany-based Fiona Liddell, daughter of a Scottish-born club professional, has made an impressive start to her defence of the Scottish Under-18 girls' championship at Alyth Golf Club, Perthshire.
She had a bag of 11 birdies in rounds of 68 and 71 for five-under-par 139 to top the 16 qualifiers for the match-play stages.
But even Fiona found the inward half more difficult than the outwward nine. She had halves of 33-35 and 32-39 in her rounds.
But for bogeys at the 15th, 17th and 18th in her second round, Liddell would been the top seed by at least six shots.
In the end Chloe Goadby (St Regulus) claimed the second seeding with rounds of 69 and 3 for 142 - three behind Liddell.
GB and I Junior Vagliano Trophy team-mates Hazel MacGarvie (Troon Ladies) and Aboyne's Shannon McWilliam are third and fourth best qualifiers with totals of 143 (68-75) and 145 (73-72) respectively.
MacGarvie had an eagle 3 at the par-5 ninth in both her qualifying rounds.
McWilliam had five birdies over her last 11 holes.

West of Scotland's Liz Keohone has been part of a fantastic group of golfers at Loudoun Gowf Club that have held a charity day over the past years at their golf club in Ayrshire -- It has been a lot of hard work but she and all the members are very proud of the work they have done -- as they should be.
Top winner of the raffle on May 31st was Ayrshire County team player Debbie Watt (Belleisle)  who won £500 !

Message back to the club from Ayrshire Cancer Support --

Huge thanks to everyone (the organisers, golfers, bar/catering staff, the gorgeous girls selling the raffle tickets, the photographer and to those who donated prizes, our apologises if we have missed anyone out) at Loudoun Gowf Club for once again delivering a first class Gowf competition on Sunday 31 May and for donating over £9,400.00 to ACS. Over the past 10 years Loudoun Gowf Club has donated over £100,000.00 from this annual event to Ayrshire Cancer Support, with added support from the Diageo Foundation who have fund-matched most of the donations made by Loudoun Gowf Club.
Words cannot express our gratitude not only to Loudoun Gowf Club and the Diageo Foundation but to everyone who has supported this event through the years. Your donation has helped hundreds of cancer patients, and we thank you sincerely on their behalf.
