SLEEP IN THE PARK -- HELP KAREN, MARGARET, SAL AND ALI'S FUNDRAISING WITH A BID FOR A FOURBALL AT DUNBAR GOLF CLUB

Margaret Whelan, Sal Shepherd, Ali Mackie and Karen Ballantyne.
On Saturday 8th December the charity SocialBite’s ‘Sleep in the Park’ fundraising event took place to raise money for and awareness of homelessness in Scotland.

10,000 people across four cities in Scotland chose to sleep out overnight, and in Edinburgh this took place in Princes Street Gardens.
The SocialBite Charity aims to help those who have no choice but to sleep out in all weathers.

Three lady golfers from Dunbar Golf Club, current Ladies Champion Margaret Whelan, past champions Karen Ballantyne (Scottish Vets Vice Captain) and Sal Shepherd together with Craigmillar Park Golf Club’s Ali Mackie took part in the event.

The ladies were under no illusion their experience would be a true representation of what it is like to sleep rough every night butit certainly was a tough night. The event heightened the ladies awareness of what an ordeal it must be to have to take to the streets each night, especially at this time of year.

The ladies are so grateful to all those who have supported them.

To date they have raised around £8,000 and stand 8th in the league of Top Individual and Teams Fundraisers. The fundraising has not stopped and the ladies are grateful to Dunbar Golf Club who have donated 2 four ball vouchers (for play Monday to Wednesday) to auction.
Normal price would be between £50 and £85 PER PERSON depending on when you play so there is a chance of a real bargain here! Anyone wanting to place a bid should email Karen on karen97881@gmail.com

Closing date for bids is Saturday 22nd December. The Dunmuir Hotel have also offered a 10% discount to anyone who would like to stay there before or after their game.

Also donations can still be made to https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Team/KBsAllStars until 24 December.

PLEASE SUPPORT KAREN AND HER TEAM AND SEE IF WE CAN GET THEM TO THE TOP SPOT

BELLE ROBERTSON IS GOING TO BE AT THE SCOTTISH WOMEN IN SPORT HALL OF FAME -- INDUCTION LADIES LUNCH

D&A's Belle with Karen Maxwell and Ann Wilson
We all know now that #GirlsDoSport - and that more opportunities are occuring ever day to encourage more and more women and girls to particpate. However at Scottish Women in Sport, we believe it is important in order to move forward and continue to accelerate change, we take time to recognise the many female pioneers in sport who have largely gone unnoticed.
Recording our sporting history is an important part of moving forward and yet there are still many pioneers who go unrecognised.
This year Scottish Women in Sport will induct some of our past and present 'Pioneers of Sport' into our Hall of Fame’ on Sunday 4th March at a ladies lunch in Glasgow. Belle Robertson will be representing Women's Golf.
This will be, in part, our contribution to International Women’s Day, #PressForProgress which is on Thursday 8th March.
You can sign up to join us on the day. A delicious afternoon tea with a glass of prosecco on arrival, an Inspirational speaker, the awards themselves will be followed by some music.
Come and join us and help us keep alive the memory of those who battled to get an opportunity to participate in sport and those who are currently leading the way.

IT'S TIME TO RE-GRIP

With the new golf season underway nothing feels better than new grips to give you confidence on the course.

Leading coaches recommend that grips should be replaced every 40 rounds or once a year.  When was the last time you looked at yours?

With our new season offers there's no excuse for not putting fresh grips on your clubs this year. A set of 8 or more irons can be re-gripped for only £5.00 per club and will make them feel like new.

Will new grips improve my game?

By themselves new grips can help you approach your potential as a golfer. A national survey of golfers showed that 66% of those who had their clubs re-gripped showed an average drop of 3-4 strokes per round. Not a bad result for a fraction of the cost of new clubs.

How do I know the proper grip & size?

Before re-gripping we ensure that you have the most suitable grip for your game. We will discuss the size, weight and grip performance with you before you make a selection. At Glasgow Golf Centre we have a great range of grips from all leading manufacturers.

JESS MEEK WINS SCOTTISH UNDER-21 GIRLS' STROKE-PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

Jess Meek
No surprise to followers of the Paul Lawrie Scottish Ladies Open Tour that Jess Meek, the 19-year-old Carnoustie Ladies player, has won the Scottish Under-21 girls' open stroke play championship at Inverness Golf Club.
Jess's form on the tour, in which she repeatedly finished ahead of lady pros and at one time headed them all in the tour's Order of Merit, was a signpost that she was going to win something big this season.
And it came today in the Highland Capital, where Jess started the final round level with Rachael Watton (Mortonhall), both of them one shot back of the long-time leader Eilidh Briggs.
Jess, as she has the knack of doing, rose to the occasion, responded to the presure and a birdie at the very last hole for a one-under-par 73 gave her a winning total of five-under-par 214.
Briggs and Watton finished two shots back in joint second place.
Both runners-up will be licking their wounds on the way home.
Eilidh birdied the 17th but bogeyed the 15th, 16th and 18th for 39 home (compared with 36 by Meek) and a 75.
Denver University student Watton had two 6s over the last five holes - a bogey at the long 14th and a double bogey at the 17th. She too came home in 39 buit for a 74 and 216.
So was Meek a lucky winner? Not a bit of it. She did what she had to do.
Jess (she prefers that to Jessica) Meek heads for the University of Missouri on August 5 and she couldn’t have asked for a better parting gift.
“This is definitely my best win so far,” said the 19-year-old. “I don’t really know what I was thinking coming down the 18th apart from try and hit the fairway and then the green.”
The Angus teenager had led the strokeplay qualifying at the Scottish Ladies’ Amateur Championship at Longniddry in May, but then suffered a disappointing second round defeat.
“It was very disappointing at the time but I think I learned from that experience,” she said. “This week, I tried not to push too hard to make birdies.”
Now she’s looking forward to a new stage of her life as a US scholarship student. If she continues to improve at the rate she has done in first half of the 2013 season, Meek mght almost inherit the golfing earth!

FROM THE SLGA WEBSITE
Jessica Meek (Carnoustie Ladies) birdied the final hole for a one under par 72 and claimed the biggest title of her career at the Scottish Junior Ladies’ Open Strokeplay Championship at Inverness Golf Club.
In a dramatic finale, Meek and Eilidh Briggs (KIlmacolm), who had led by one after both round one and round two, were tied standing on the 17th tee on a final day that included a 90-minute thunderstorm delay.
Both hit good drives, but while Briggs pulled her second shot Meek made it onto the green in two at the 455-yard hole. Her first putt from 50-feet stopped a tantalising six feet short but she made the tester to secure victory on five under par.
Briggs three-putted the 18th for a 75 to finish on three under and in a tie for second place with Rachael Watton (Mortonhall), who had been two ahead with six to play but bogeyed the 14th and made a double-bogey after tree trouble at the 17th. The University of Denver golfer closed with a 74.
