Fiona Norris is the 2010 Lanarkshire Champion

Fiona Norris Fiona Norris --- 2010 Lanarkshire County Champion

Hamilton's Fiona Norris, sister of LPGA Tour player Mhairi McKay, retained the Lanarkshire women's county golf championship at Hayston Golf Club today
Fiona added to her previous title wins in 1988, 1992 and 2009 by beating the No 1 seed, Lesley Lloyd (Hayston), county captain and daughter of the former Scottish PGA secretary, by 4 and 3 in the final.
Norris, the No 3 qualifier, siezed the initiative by winning the first two holes, the second with a birdie but Lloyd was not overawed and hit back with birdies of her own at the third and sixth to square the match.
Norris was two up at the turn after winning the seventh and eighth. The writing was on the wall for Lloyd when she went three down at the 11th and four down at the next which Norris birdied. The remaining holes were halved in par before they shook hands on the 15th green.
It was the sixth time Lloyd had lost in the final since 1998, the year after she won the Lanark title.
Today's results:
Semi-finals - Lesley Lloyd (Hayston) beat Elaine Cuthill (Lanark) 4 and 3, Fiona Norris (Hamilton) beat Susan Wood (Drumpellier) 3 and 2.
Final - Norris beat Lloyd 4 and 3.

The McNeil Trophy pictured above was awarded to the County Team of 3 returning the lowest aggregate scratch score in the 2 qualifying rounds with the 2 best scores counting each day. The Trophy, in memory of Kathleen McNeil, Renfrewshire's late Honorary Life President, has been presented by Miss Marigold Speir, Scottish Champion in 1957. It is very fitting that this trophy will not only be a permanent reminder of the Centenary of Scottish County Golf but to Kathleen who contributed so much to golf and was known by so many lady golfers in Scotland.
