MIDLOTHIAN COUNTY WIN AGAINST SCOTTISH VETS TEAM IN FRIENDLY MATCH

Midlothian and Scottish Vets
This is SVLGA Captain Ellie Whyte’s report of our recent match v Midlothian County Ladies at Bruntsfield Links with apologies on the delay in posting this:

Ten ladies represented SVLGA to enjoy a friendly competitive match against Midlothian County Ladies

The venue was rather special, the Bruntsfield Links Golf Club which is the 4th oldest golf club In the world. The course has recently been remodelled and is now admitting lady members so we were all excited to be amongst the first ladies to have a competition on this historic course.

Unfortunately there were a few last minute call offs from both teams so we ended up lending Midlothian back a couple of their players.

However this meant that others enjoyed the opportunity of taking part in the match. Well done to the ladies sporting the purple and representing SVLGA for the first time. Roz Purdom, Sue Penman, Sal Shepherd, Louise Graham and wait for it, Ellie Whyte! They were partnered by stalwarts, Frances Millar, Carol Whyte, Sheena Wood, Liz Stewart and Lesley Lloyd.

Congratulations to Midlothian County ladies who won the match 3-2, we look forward to playing again next year.

Thanks must go to Bruntsfield Links Golf Club for their wonderful hospitality and to Louise Fraser, Captain of MLCGA for organising such an enjoyable match.

ONLY 2 PEOPLE BREAK 90 AT A WET AND WINDY WEST VETS SPRING MEETING AT GLASGOW GAILES !!

Marion Hamilton (Kilmarnock Barassie)
Overall Winner of the West Vets Spring Meeting

From the West Vets Website

Glasgow Gailes was the venue yesterday for the much anticipated 2019 Spring Meeting of the West Vets.

A total of 113 ladies entered the competition, looking forward to the opportunity to play over this fabulous links, which has been host to 32 international championships since 1927.

However, the Scottish weather had different ideas.

Spring was not evident over the Ayrshire links and the vets had conscious decisions to make on whether or not to brave the elements.

A total of 59 ladies ventured out - and to be honest, they should all be congratulated.

Liz Stewart ( after 18 holes)  Liz Wilson, Anna Telfer and Gillian Kyle (after 18 holes)

Carol Fell and Evy MacGregor
could only manage 1 hole but did enjoy the catering and chat

Others stayed inside and enjoyed a selection of teas, coffees, scones, soup and bacon rolls. The jury is still out on who made the right call!

Only 2 people broke 90 - Gillian Kyle and Liz Stewart (Reserve) who were part of the Scottish Vets winning team against the Irish earlier this week !

Gillian Kyle (East Renfrewshire) recorded the best scratch of the day with an 83.
