AYRSHIRE WOMEN END 49-YEAR WAIT FOR 14th SCOTTISH COUNTY TITLE IN THE 110TH ANNIVERSARY OF COUNTY GOLF

Ayrshire have won the Scottish women's county championship at Peebles for the first time since they won the title at Troon in 1970

This is their 14th capture of the championship since they made the breakthrough in 1911, winning the title again in 1912 and 1920. The first year of the County Finals was in 1909 -- 110 years ago

Ayrshire won all three matches this weekend, beating Fife 7-2. Perth and Kinross 6-3 and then beat  Dumfriesshire 7-1 today (Sunday 1st September)

Ayrshire are in a strong position to win the Scottish women's county finals title at Peebles.
Today (Sat) they beat Perthshire and Kinross 6-3,  to top the current table with two wins.
Dumfriesshire beat Fife 6-3.

AYRSHIRE AND PERTH AND KNROSS ARE WINNERS ON DAY 1 OF THE SCOTTISH WOMENS COUNTY FINALS

Ayrshire, 7-2 winners against Fife, and Perth and Kinross, who beat Dumfriesshire 5-4, lead the Scottish Women's County Finals table after Day 1 at Peebles.
Ayrshire took the foursomes 2-1 against Fife and romped to a 5-1 victory in the singles.
The P and K versus Dumfrieshire meeting was a much closer contest with P and K edging the foursomes 2-1 before the afternoon singles honours were shared 3-3.

The Scottish County Finals will be held at Peebles Golf Club this week, from Friday 30 August to Sunday 1 September.

Four County teams will do battle over the three days in the Scottish Borders. They are Ayrshire, Dumfriesshire, Fife and Perth & Kinross. Each of the four finalists won their Division's Inter-county Jamboree to qualify.

Day 1: Ayrshire v Fife - and - Perth & Kinross v Dumfriesshire
Day 2: Dumfriesshire v Fife - and - Ayrshire v Perth & Kinross
Day 3: Perth & Kinross v Fife - and - Ayrshire v Dumfriesshire

They now go on to represent the west against Fife, Perth & Kinross and Dumfriesshire in the Scottish Inter County Finals at Peebles from Friday 30th August to Sunday 1st September

The team will be without Hazel McGarvie, Jane Finnie and Alex Glennie who played in the West Jamboree and are replaced by  Roz Purdom (Prestwick St Nicholas) and Luisa Gibson and Pauline Patrick both from Irvine Golf Club.

This will be an exciting weekend for Team Ayrshire as they will be up against the cream of ladies amateurs golfers from all over Scotland.

We wish Ayrshire the best of luck from all the Counties in the West of Scotland --- D&A, Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire.
