THE GLASGOW INDOOR GOLF ACADEMY IS NOW CLOSED

Some of the juniors enjoying pizza after a session

Karyn and an Aimpoint putting Class
It is with great sadness to hear that the Glasgow Indoor Golf Academy in Portman Street, Kinning Park, Glasgow closed down this week.

This  indoor environment - full driving range, simulators and short game area boasting an 18 hole putting green, bunker and chipping greens was used by many of the  West of Scotland players, county squads, Pro Golfers, Juniors, Schools and beyond.  Players have had some great practice sessions there and lessons from Professional Karyn Burns

The centre was excellent and it will be  real loss and be greatly missed my many -- including your webmaster Carol

There is a CLEARANCE SALE for the next couple of days for both hardware and soft goods so if you want a BARGAIN pop by!

Karyn and all the team would like to take this opportunity to thank their loyal customers.

RENFREWSHIRE JUNIOR CAMPBELL CLOCK AND CHAMPIONSHIP AND SOME JUNIOR EVENTS

The  Renfrewshire Ladies County Golf Association Junior Campbell Clock  is to be played on August 26th at Whitecraigs GC.
There are competitions for all abilities so please spread the word around your clubs in Renfrewshire to encourage girls to enter.

CLICK HERE TO PRINT A THE POSTER FOR YOUR CLUB

Alongside this, Gillian Kyle the junior convenor plans to run their Championship. This will be a stroke play event this year rather than a matchplay event. The other counties seem to do it this way so she thought we could try it this year.

The lowest gross score will be the champion. The scores can then be converted into stableford points for the Campbell Clock competition.

CLICK HERE to go to the RLCGA Junior website page for more information about the Junior Events.

In Renfrewshire there is the Eastwood Junior week which is from July 9th-13th  (Contact Eastwood GC for more information) and the East Renfrewshire GC Golf Week from Monday 30th July - Friday 3rd August   CLICK HERE FOR MORE DETAILS

Renfrewshire Girls play D&A Girls at Caldwell Golf Club

Despite depleted numbers due to exam pressures, the Renfrewshire and D&A girls had a very enjoyable afternoon together at Caldwell GC.
The sun shone for most of the afternoon which was a pleasant change.

Match 1: Orla Rooney (Cowglen) and Jennifer Lynagh (Caldwell) played 9 holes each against Sophie Murphy (Clydebank).

Match 2: Lauren Agnew (Eastwood) and Zara Thomson (Williamwood) played 9 holes each against Eilidh (Clydebank).

It was pleasing to see that the winter coaching had been worthwhile with some lovely golf being played.

Liz Hale from Caldwell kindly organised a Greensomes over 9 holes for the younger girls who have yet to gain a handicap.

Lucie Barclay (Kilmacolm) and Ella McGrath (Caldwell) played against Mia Thyne (Caldwell), and Lily (Clydebank).

The girls played very well and enjoyed the different format.

All the girls enjoyed drinks and a snack after their game and we thank Liz very much indeed for arranging courtesy of Caldwell for them.

Renfrewshire look forward to a return match with D&A in the autumn.

Renfrewshire Girls win Kennedy Salver The West of Scotland Junior Inter-County matches

Back - L to R - Anna MacKenzie, Heather Mushet, Emily Crusher
Front -- Sophie Kyle, Ellie Wilkie and Niamh Kennedy

The West of Scotland Junior Inter-County matches were played on Monday (yesterday)  at Loudoun Gowf Club in Ayrshire.
The heavy rain around the time of the girls going out in their singles matches didn't deter their spirits and once it passed over the remainder of the afternoon was fine.
Renfrewshire got off to a good start winning all of the morning foursomes matches giving them 3 points.
Holders Lanarkshire were next on 1.5 points, Ayrshire's point was a concession from D &A who unfortunately had late call-offs, then D & A who gained a half.
D & A won two of their singles matches, Ayrshire won 3 so the fight was on between Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire.
Lanarkshire made up some ground from the morning deficit winning 3 matches plus the concession giving them a total of 5.5 points, but Renfrewshire's two afternoon wins along with the concession was enough to get them over the line with a total of 6 points.
Congratulations Renfrewshire on your win, but also very well done to all the girls selected to play for your county........the officials and spectators enjoyed it immensely.
We look forward to next year when Dumbartonshire & Argyll will be our hosts.
Click here for some photographs from the day -- Thanks go to June Kerr, Liz Keohone, Audrey MacKenzie and Gillian Kyle for all the photos
CLICK HERE for some photos from Lanarkshire's Jean MacIntyre

Many thanks go to Ayrshire's Junior Convenor June Kerr for the report
