NOMINATE A 15-17 YEAR OLD FEMALE GOLFER FROM SCOTLAND TO GO TO ARCHERFIELD

Archerfield Golf Club
From Lorne Kelly

As many people know, for the past three years I have been working with the Congaree Global Golf Initiative, an amazing program that helps high potential, but financially disadvantaged young people achieve their dream of playing college golf.

Each summer, dozens of students get the opportunity to travel to one of the most incredible courses in America to learn the skills needed to reach their athletic and academic potential.

This year, we’re also excited to add an additional CGGI camp at ARCHERFIELD, Scotland to help more students in Europe.

WE ARE ACTIVELY LOOKING FOR GIRLS FROM  SCOTLAND and would appreciate any recommendations.

If you know of a deserving high school golfer who would be a good fit, please reach out for details on how to nominate them for the program.
My email address is lornekelly100@gmail.com or by all means PM me -- CLOSING DATE 22ND JANUARY 2020 FOR NOMINATIONS

Kirsten Brown wins Autumn Trophy at Alyth Golf Club

Kirsten Brown

From the Scottish Golf View Website

Kirsten Brown (St. Andrews University )  held off reigning R and A Scholar Champion Lorna McClymont (SRUC) to win the 14th Autumn Trophy for students at Alyth Golf Club

Kirsten Brown started the day with a two-stroke lead over Lorna McClymont and used steady, bogey-free golf to extend that lead to three at the turn. Birdies at 10 and 12 allowed McClymont to get back within two shots and a grandstand finish looked set.
Unfortunately for Lorna, bogeys followed on 13 and 14 which allowed Brown the luxury of two dropped shots in the final four holes on the way to victory by those two strokes.
A one under total of 212 for the tournament showed the consistently high level of golf she had produced over all three days and she was fully deserving of a first BUCS/SSS Tour victory.

In third place, St Andrews' Megan Ashley was in a contest with herself – three early bogeys meaning she was too many back to fully challenge for the lead but also confident of staying ahead of those behind. Birdies at 10 and 12, before a double at 14 and bogey at 16, left Ashley to finish +7 for the tournament, six back from McClymont but five ahead of the chasing pack.
Brown’s quality golf was enough for St. Andrew’s second team to upset their first team, Cassie Kneen and Rachel Maswi joining with Kirsten in taking the team competition by two strokes.

HAZEL MACGARVIE LEADS BY SIX IN STUDENT WOMEN'S GOLF TITLE RACE

From Colin Farquharson

Hazel MacGarvie (Stirling University) extended her lead at the top of the West of Scotland Trophy students' golf tournament leaderboard to six shots after a three-over -par second round of 74 at Western Gailes Golf Club yesterday (Tuesday).

A couple of birdies helped the former Scottish U18 girls champion from Ayrshire to reach the 15th in level par , before four dropped shots over three holes threatened to allow the rest of the field back into the competition. However, MacGarvie, pictured left, bounced back to birdie the last and ensure that the competition is in her hands heading into Wednesday's final round.

Behind MacGarvie is a packed leaderboard with three competitors sitting at seven over par 149 – Kirsty Brodie (Scottish Golf), Ireland's Eleanor Metcalfe (Maynooth University) and Louise Duncan (Edinburgh University).

The round of the day, however, came from Stirling University’s Penny Brown, who used an eagle at the par 5 sixth to underpin a one under par 70, ensuring that she made the cut for the final day’s play.

In the women's team competition, the Stirling I team continue to lead at 294, five strokes clear of their second team, and nine strokes clear of third-placed Maynooth I
