LAURA MURRAY HOLES BIRDIE PUTT TO WIN ST RULE TROPHY PLAY-OFF

Alford's Laura Murray holed an uphill 15ft birdie putt on the Old Course's 18 th green to win a sudden-death play-off climax in the evening sunlight after 8pm to the St Rule Trophy women's amateur golf tournament at St Andrews.

The 21-year-old punched the air in delight as her ball disappeared in the hole to beat 16-year-old Welsh international Amy Boulden from Llandudno.
West of Scotland's Pamela Pretswell leader by one with a first-round, five-under-par 70 over the New Course, slipped out of the pole position with an outward half of 42 over the Old Course in miserable morning conditions of rain, wind and cold.
However, Pamela came back in 35 – three under par – to salvage a 77 – one over the ladies’ par for the Old Course – to total 147 for 36 holes

Eilidh Briggs 2010 RLCGA Champion - Click to enlarge
Eilidh Briggs, was six under par for the 25 holes she had to play today and produced her best form on the big occasion!
It was Eilidh's second appearance in the final. As a 14-year-old, she lost to big sister Megan in the 2008 final.
Eilidh, the No 6 seed, was two under par for the holes played in the final. She was level par to the turn, compared to her Clare- Marie's three-over-par figures. The 10th was halved in birdies and then Eilidh produced an eagle to win the 11th and virtually clinch the championship.
In the semi-finals, Clare-Marie had played flawless golf to beat Carol Whyte 4 and 3 producing three birdies on the outward half.
Eilidh was four under par in winning her semi-final by 9 and 7 against young Lesley Cosh (Cowglen).
Today's results:
Semi-finals - Clare-Marie Carlton (Fereneze) beat Carol Whyte (Windyhill) 4 and 3, Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm) beat Lesley Cosh (Cowglen) 9 and 7.
Final - Eilidh Briggs beat Clare- Marie Carlton 5 and 4.

On a glorious autumn day, with the sun shining and showing Scotland and Loch Lomond at their best D&A Centenary Competition, was played over the Carrick Golf Club today. Unfortunately the greens at the Carrick are undergoing their end of season tining and sanding, so this understandably made putting more difficult.

Emma Kennedy is the 2009 Janice Moodie Trophy Winner

13 year old Emma Kennedy from Paisley Golf Club won the rescheduled Janice Moodie Trophy at Windyhill today.
Emma scored 100 less her handicap of 31 for a net 69, and won by two strokes from Scottish Junior Internationalist Rachael Watton (Mortonhall) who had a net 71 off a handicap of 2. Rachel won the 15-21 Age group prize from fellow internationalist Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm) who had 75 less 1 net 74.
Alexandra Duffy (Cathkin Braes) won the 11-14 Age group category with 102 less 27 net 75.

Unfortunately due to the reschedlued date the number of competitiors in the 2009 Janice Moodie Trophy played at Windyhill Golf Club yesterday was somewhat reduced.
However the competion still managed to attract a high quality field with a number of the girls playing the course for the first time. The organisers hope to see all the competitiors return next season when hopefully they will have better weather to play on the original date.

LGU - West Area Final at Ranfurly Castle

Prestwick St Nicholas's Kathleen Dauthieu had the best net round of the day by far to book one of the eight qualifying places in the LGU Medal Grand Final at Crieff on Sunday, June 7, which were up for grabs at the rescheduled West area final at Ranfurly Castle Golf Club yesterday
Only 64 of the original field for the rain-abandoned competition on May 6th turned up second time round but even if they had all turned up it is doubtful if anyone would have got close to Kathleen's net 71 off a handicap of 24.
The ladies' par at Ranfurly Castle is 74 and the SSS 73. The CSS was 76 on a bright and breezy day.
Kathleen's net return was the best of the day by six clear shots.
The full list of qualifiers for Crieff is:
Silver Division - Christine Whitelaw (Largs) (9) (better inward half). Nichola Ferguson (Clober) (5) 78; Sheila Sergenson (Palacerigg) (11) (better inward half), Anna Boyd (Biggar) (14) 79.
Bronze Division - Kathleen Dauthieu (Prestwick St Nicholas) (25) 71; Margaret Bremner (Caldwell) (23) (better inward half), Joyce McGregor (Windyhill) (22) (better inward half), Helen Abram (Ranfurly Castle) (23) 77 (better inward half).
Helen Abraham, the Ranfurly Castle ladies captain pipped Kay Gillies (Vale of Leven), who had a net 77 off 23 for the fourth and last qualifying place in the Bronze Division.
