Williamwood Open Day raises £2,500 for Age Concern East Renfrewshire and Whitecraigs trio are the Winners

Carol McBeath of Age Concern,
Gill Unick - Lady Vice Captain - Williamwood
Carol McNally -  Lady Vice Captain - Williamwood
Williamwood Ladies' Open Triam: 28th August

Over 140 ladies (just 4 home players) played in Williamwood's clearly popular annual tournament  today.  The visiting ladies found the back 9 holes quite a bit tougher than the front 9 (members would agree!) and all keen to return next year.

Local players from Whitecraigs just pipped one of the Ralston teams on the better inward 9, whilst Milngavie trio took 3rd spot and Prestwick St. Nicholas 4th place.

Leaderboard:
1st: L Hay; A Campbell; J Mitchell all Whitecraigs 137 (bih)
2nd: L McMillan; C Clark; L Marven all Ralston 137
3rd: M Allan; S O'Neill; S Sinclair all Milngavie 139 (bih)
4th: A McGillivray; S Dunigan; L Thompson all Prestwick St. Nicholas

Another Winner on the day was most definitely Wiliamwood's chosen charity: Age Concern East Renfrewshire.  An unbelievable amount of over £2,500 was raised on the day through everyone's commitment and generosity.

Missed out this year?  Watch out for on line booking early in 2020.

Two best net scores counted, therefore winners were 7 under par.

Thanks go to Carol McNally for the results and report

Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open set for bumper weekend of entertainment

North Berwick, 22 July, 2019 – The Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open has announced the introduction of two themed days for the weekend to add to the fun at The Renaissance Club from August 8 to 11.
The tournament, co-sanctioned by the LPGA and Ladies European Tour, makes its debut at The Renaissance Club just three weeks after the men and is set to feature world-class talent including defending champion and major winner Ariya Jutanugarn, as well as Jeongeun Lee6, So Yeon Ryu, Georgia Hall, Charley Hull and Scotland’s very own Team Europe Solheim Cup captain, Catriona Matthew.
Ladies Day, which will take place on Saturday 10th August, is new for 2019 and gives all women that attend the chance to not only watch the golf but take part in a golf clinic with European Tour coach Gary Nicol and enjoy live music from former Westlife star Brian McFadden and upcoming Scottish artist Hugh Kelly.

No golfing experience is required and welcome drinks will be served to all attendees on arrival as well as a free shuttle service being in operation from North Berwick Train Station to the golf course.
Participants will also be able to enjoy cocktail making masterclass sessions supported by Loch Lomond Distillery, relax with a complimentary neck and shoulder massage courtesy of The Macdonald Marine Hotel and witness a special guest Q&A in the public village hosted by TV personality, Emma Dodds with popstar Brian McFadden amongst other stars from the event.

Speaking about the initiative, Martin Gilbert, Chairman of Aberdeen Standard Investments, said, “The Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open is committed to showcasing this special event to as many new audiences as possible. It’s important for us to bring in new fans to golf and we hope that Ladies Day offers women, who might not have previous golfing experience, the opportunity to visit The Renaissance Club and have a fantastic day out.”

In addition to Ladies Day, Solheim Cup Sunday is also new to the 2019 tournament. In support of the Solheim Cup, which takes place at nearby Gleneagles from 9 – 15 September 2019, fans are encouraged to get behind the tournament by wearing Team Europe or Team USA colours to pledge their support of their favourite team in the biennial contest.
The best-dressed fan will receive a special Solheim Cup pin flag signed by all the European Team and there will be on the spot prizes for those that have made the effort.

Another special guest Q&A will take place in the spectator village with a number of Solheim Cup stars, giving fans the opportunity to ask what it is like to be part of one of the world’s greatest golf events.

The Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open is the last qualifying event for Team Europe ahead of final selection announcement on Monday 12th August as well being the penultimate qualifying event for Team USA. With plenty of last minute qualifying points on offer, it is all to play for.

Paul Bush, Director of Events with VisitScotland, said, “The Solheim Cup is one of the world’s greatest golf events and with it taking place just one month after the Ladies Scottish Open, it only felt right to put on a day for the fans to show their support. Scotland’s Catriona Matthew will captain Team Europe for the first time and we hope that spectators and fans alike can get behind her and all the players at the Ladies Scottish Open who are looking to qualify for each of the prestigious teams.”

This event will feature and promote East Lothian.  Scotland’s Food & Drink County marquee will showcase the diversity and quality of local produce that will be available for tasting and purchase and the Scotland’s Golf Coast on course activation zone will give visitors an opportunity to find out more about the golfing, accommodation and leisure offering in the area.

KITRINA DOUGLAS GOLF PSYCHOLOGY WORKSHOP AT COWGLEN GOLF CLUB

  • Do you wonder why you make silly mistakes on the golf course?
  • Perhaps you’ve never been able to stay calm teeing off in front of the clubhouse or when you get called through a group?
  • Maybe you are one of those golfers whose score plummets if your playing partner says something like “Oh, you played really well on the front nine”
  • Has your handicap stuck?
  • Do you have a ‘bogey’ hole or hazard that catches you out every time you’re playing well?
  • Do you have goals and ambitions for your golf that seem to get thwarted each year?
  • Would you like to change?

These are just a few of the issues to be addressed during Women & Golf Workshops.

The aim is to help you feel more confident, focused and be better prepared for your golf and the coming season.

Dr Kitrina Douglas will show you how it is possible to climb some of the mountains you didn’t think you could climb, whatever your age, handicap or skill level.

If the answer is YES to any of the above

- Then why not come along to Cowglen Golf Club on Sunday 10th March 2019 - 10am - 2:30pm

Dalmahoy signs leading golf ambassador - Jane Turner

Jane Turner

Jane Turner has been handed a boost for her 2019 Ladies European Tour campaign after the Midlothian pro secured a new base at Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club, on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

Dalmahoy has chosen the Ladies European Tour pro golfer as its ambassador, in a year when the women’s golf tournament – The Solheim Cup – returns to Scotland.  As one of Scotland’s leading golf resorts, Dalmahoy was host to Scotland’s first ever Solheim Cup in 1992.

Turner, who has a shot at the Ladies European Tour this year, said of the partnership: “I’m proud to say that I am now representing Dalmahoy Hotel and Country Club and will act as an ambassador whilst at home and on tour. Dalmahoy has given me the perfect base for all of my practice with two great golf courses and quality practice facilities available for my short game.”

Sam Oliver, director of golf and leisure at Dalmahoy continued: “With two 18-hole golf courses, designed to contrast and complement each other, a driving range and pitch and putt, we are proud to offer some of the best golfing facilities in the country.

“But most importantly, Dalmahoy prides itself on being a welcoming and inclusive golf club – we’re privileged to attract golfers of all levels and abilities, from young children and beginners, through to seasoned pros.  In a year when The Solheim Cup returns to Scotland, there is rightly ever more a spotlight on ladies golf, and we’re delighted to be supporting a Scottish leading light in the women’s game.”

Oliver continued: “We hope that by working with Jane we can encourage more golfers, and particularly women golfers, to our country’s great game.”

Dalmahoy’s golfing pedigree has attracted famous names such as Seve Ballesteros, Sam Torrance and Nick Faldo who have competed in various high profile professional events over the years including the Scottish Senior Open and the UK’s first ever Solheim Cup in 1992.

Turner continued: “Dalmahoy also has an indoor studio, which has allowed me to keep practising even on the harshest of winter days.”

“Dalmahoy also have a state-of-the art Leisure Club that I can use and now that my gym and golf facilities are in one place it means I can be even more productive with my time.”
