RENFREWSHIRE COUNTY CAPTAIN JUNE HAS A HOLE IN ONE AT TROON

June has a Hole In One

At the Renfrewshire County Beetle Drive Fundraiser in February, Gleddoch pair Isabell Donnelly and Shirley Back outbid others for a round for 3 with President Jennifer Mack at Troon Portland.  

On Sunday, with RLCGA Captain June Lockhart invited to make up the 3rd player, the event took place.  
Although the weather was challenging at first, it was dry for most of the round and the course was in excellent condition. 
The ‘oldies’ played the ‘youngsters’ (no names need to be mentioned !) and a very competitive match ended all square, where Captain June made her first contribution at the par 3 4th with a hole-in-one ! 
As we were the only customers upstairs all day, it was not an expensive celebration – a typical Aberdonian.

ISLA MONCRIEFF MAKES IT A HAT TRICK BY WINNING THE PERTH AND KINROSS COUNTY CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS

14 Perth and Kinross Club Champions took part in the  Champion of Champions at Dunblane Golf Club on Sunday 21st October. The winner was Isla Moncrieff with a scratch score of 78. 

The win tops off a fantastic year for Isla Moncrieff who not only won her club championship at Pitlochry, but also at Aberfeldy. 

The CSS was 72.  The results were as follows:

KELSEY MACDONALD LEADING SCOT IN THE HERO WOMEN'S INDIAN OPEN

Wales’ Becky Morgan secured her first professional title with a two shot victory in the Hero Women’s Indian Open. 
In her 18th year on tour, and after rounds of 72, 72, 68 and 69, for a total of 281, seven-under-par, she could finally enjoy her moment in the sun.

Lorna McClymont (Milngavie) won the West Girls Championship yesterday over Troon Portland beating Megan Docherty (Bishopbriggs) in the final by 4&3
Both Lorna and Megan played fantastic golf with Lorna coming up trumps to retain the title.

GREENLEES TROPHY PRESENTATION AND LUNCH

The Annual Greenlees Lunch took place today, 18 October, at Cowglen Golf Club.
This was attended by 51 ladies representing 22 clubs and 5 Clubs sent apologies.

Greenlees Secretary Maureen Mitchell (Old Ranfurly) opened the proceedings by welcoming everyone to the 78th Anniversary Year of the Greenlees Trophy.
She stated that it was unfortunate that our club members had been reduced as Cawder Golf Club had withdrawn from the league.

She took the opportunity to remind the club secretaries that their lists of  players and the Greenlees fee were now due if they had not already sent them in.

She then introduced the top table guests -  Pat Lunney, the Lady Captain of Cowglen, who welcomed everyone on behalf of the Club. 
She then introduced Carol Fell and thanked her for setting up and keeping all the Greenlees results together and enabling everyone to be able to keep up to date with the league positions on the web.

Next introduction was that of  Cowglen's Greenlees Secretary Pam Mather who had organised the lunch arrangements.
She had  a band of helpers to assist the proceedings and the tables were named after some of the holes on the course --

Lots of pleasant chatter could be heard and it was obvious that everyone was enjoying catching up with old friends.

After coffee was served, Maureen invited the Captain Pat to present the trophies to the winning teams.
Division 3 was won by Ayr Bellisle with Williamwood winners of Division 2.
The runners up in Division 1 were West Kilbride who were  beaten by the overall winners - Troon. Troon's Greenlees Secretary, Annie Howie then made a short speech and  a vote of thanks for all the hospitality received from Cowglen and thanked Maureen and her helpers for organising a very successful lunch.

Cowglen Captain Pat and "Greenlees Webmaster " Carol were presented with beautiful flower displays from the top table that Maureen had made.

Maureen then concluded by wishing everyone a safe journey home.

SCOTLAND’S MICHELE THOMSON HOPES TO GO ONE BETTER AT THE HERO WOMEN’S INDIAN OPEN

Scotland’s Michele Thomson is hoping to go one better at the Hero Women’s Indian Open, which starts today at DLF Golf and Country Club near New Delhi, following her a career best finish of second at the same venue last year.

Thomson posted a course record eight-under-par 64 in the second round of the 2017 event to take a three shot lead into the final round and was leading after 15 holes, but eventually ended a stroke behind Frenchwoman Camille Chevalier.

After finishing third in the Pro-Am on Wednesday, she said: “I’m super excited to be back. The course has obviously been lengthened a little bit this year, but it feels like the same kind of place and I’m excited to get going. I’m playing well again and I’ve got good memories from here, so hopefully I can go one better.

“I’m approaching it in exactly the same way as last year. I am looking for a good finish. I need a good finish this week, but just want to enjoy it and play sensible. You don’t want to be too aggressive around this golf course, but hit the fairways and the right parts of the greens and you’ll be scoring well.”

Thomson is 90^th on the Ladies European Tour order of merit and wants to move back inside the top 80 to be assured of her full card for next year, but is not putting too much pressure on herself.

She has made six cuts from 10 starts, including a season-best finish of 15^thplace in the Canberra Classic, but winning two medals at the European Championships in Glasgow in August gave the 30-year-old from Aberdeen a massive confidence boost. She arrives in India in form after a 49^thplace finish in the Lacoste Ladies Open de France and a 33^rd in the Estrella Damm Mediterranean Ladies Open in Spain.

She added: “I just want to enjoy the week and the same kind of outcome as last year would be ideal.

“I’ve got one of my friends, Jenna Hunter, who plays on the ALPG and is a New Zealand PGA Pro, as my caddie. She’s a great player and a very good green reader and that is needed this week as the greens are quite extravagant. I’m excited to get going.”

Thomson tees off at the 10^th in the first group of the afternoon wave at 11.10am local time on Thursday in the company of Marianne Skarpnord and Holly Clyburn.

UK fans can watch all four rounds live on Sky Sports, as well as on the LET website and Facebook channels from 8am BST.

Many golfers over Scotland will know or have met Isobel Harvey (St Rule Club) - one of the most  snazzy and trendy lady golfer who has played in many Scottish and Scottish Senior Championships County and Midland Vets Matches.

Last weekend Isobel celebrated a Big Birthday at Blairgowrie on Saturday with some of her friends including Donna Jackson and Aileen Baker and then went on to play Pitlochry on Sunday.

Donna said " It was  a surprise for her as Pitlochry is one of her favourite courses "
She also said " -- and the one thing about Isobel's dress code, no one will have on the same outfit !"

THIS GIRLS GOLF EVENT AT GOUROCK GOLF CLUB

Come and join us at Gourock Golf Club for ‘This Girl Golfs’, the event will involve coaching and skills challenges with some fun and games along the way on 28 October 2018 from 09:30 – 16:00 

Come rain or shine coaching/games based activity will take place across Gourock GC’s training facilities, including, indoor studio, short game (putting and chipping) area and course.

There will be hot rolls and drinks on arrival and in addition lunch and goody bags will be provided on the day!

Ability Level – Open to all girls aged 7-14 who have been involved in a regular coaching programme or have 1-3 years of golfing experience.

You will be joined by a PGA Professional who will guide you along the way with some tips to improve your golf game.

THE DARKER SIDE OF THE RYDER CUP - BY MAUREEN MADILL

Former Curtis Cup player Maureen Madill has been  to ten Ryder Cups but her experience in Paris was like no other with the European Team having that fantastic win. 

She was not working as a commentator or attending as a corporate guest either. 

On  this occasion she was a diehard, bona fide golf fan, in other words, as a normal punter.

AYRSHIRE JUNIORS CENTENARY TROPHY IS WON BY CRISTINA MCCRACKEN

Ayrshire Girls' final competition of the season was played over Barassie Links on Saturday.   This was a first time of playing the course for most of the girls and it couldn't have happened on a better day with blue skies and sunshine all afternoon.  

The winner of the stableford competition was Cristina McCracken (Troon Ladies) - pictured above playing off 28 who finished on 35 points.  Runner-up was Barassie girl Katie Ronnie (30) who had 31 points.   Sarah Ramsay (West Kilbride) was the top silver player on 29 points.

The Pre-handicap girls played the 9 hole Hillhouse course with forward tees at a few of the more difficult holes.   It was a very close contest all the way for these girls, and I'm sure it won't be too long until they get their handicaps.

The final matches and results are now completed for Division 3 of the Greenlees Trophy

MARY STARK AND ANNE BROWNIE WIN THE 2018 CHALLENGE CUP

The playing of this years Gibson Cup at the Edinburgh Leisure Braid Hills Golf Course could not have had two more contrasting days.

Saturday’s foursomes strokeplay qualifier was granted the most beautiful crisp calm sunny day for the 42 couples to post a score. Top scorers were Jacky Burnett & Claire Barnish  (Broomieknowe) with a nett 72.5

By Sunday the conditions could not have been worse for play to be possible.

40mph gusts and squally conditions did threaten a postponement for the danger element. Luckily we were able to battle through and complete the tournament.

In the morning semis Sarah Ledingham (Comiston) & Mandy Bell (Liberton) beat Jacky & Claire  then Anne Brownie & Mary Stark beat last years Gibson Cup winners Viv Curran & Tracy Laughland.

The Consolation Stableford was won by Frances McFadzean & Celia Macintyre (Craigmillar Park).

The afternoons final was played with an impressivestandard of golf considering the trying conditions with 3 time previous winners Mary & Anne beating the competitions first timers Sarah & Mandy at 16thhole.

The final of the 2nd flight of match play was won by Christine Clements & Carol Brown beating Donna Fleming & Diane Moncrieff (Lochend) also at 16th.

Big thank you June Peebles Chief Executive of Edinburgh Leisure for presenting prizes  & to Clifford Hastings for presenting the Gibson Cup to the Winners in honour & memory of his late wife Isobel 9 times passed Gibson Cup winner.

Affiliation Increase Approved at Scottish Golf General Meeting

Scottish Golf’s membership has voted in favour of a resolution to increase the per capita fee at a General Meeting held at the Stirling Court Hotel tonight.

The resolution was passed with a majority vote of 60.2%. The increase from £11.25 to £14.50 will take effect from January 2019 and will be frozen until the collection of subscriptions in January 2022.

The increased revenue of circa £500,000 has been ring-fenced to support the development of key strategic priorities and also to offset proposed cuts announced in light of decreased funding available to Scottish Golf.
