Curtis Cup player Shannon McWilliam from Aboyne has a fight on her hands to survive Wednesday's halfway cut and make it through to the match-play stages of the British women's open amateur championship at Hillside Golf Club, Southport in Lancashire.
Only the leading 64 will advance and Shannon, pictured, after an opening round of five-over-par 79, which included a triple bogey 7 at the 11th and a double bogey 6 at the 18th, will start the second round in joint 97th place.
New Scottish women's champion Gemma Batty (West Linton) looks safe after a 73, in which she reeled off nine par figures for the inward half, gave her a share of 14th place.But Chloe Goadby (St Regulus) and Hannah McCook (Grantown on Spey), both on the 76 mark, and Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) and Clara Young (North Berwick), both of whom had 77s cannot afford to miss too many birdie putts in the second round.
Hazel MacGarvie (Troon Ladies), one of Scotland's top prospects, had a day when nothing dropped for her. She had a birdie-less round of 80.
