Zibby Brown is the new Aberdeenshire County Selector

Aberdeenshire Ladies' County Golf Association is delighted to announce that Zibby Brown (pictured) has accepted their invitation to be our County team selector.

Zibby is replacing Laura McLardy who stood down last year. It was disappointing for Laura to miss out on the opportunity to end her second term in the role with a successful Jamboree – and optimistically County Finals.
She also lost out on the chance to learn more by working alongside Laura, benefitting from her substantial knowledge and experience of selecting, including when Aberdeenshire won the Scottish finals at Kilmacolm in 2018.

Big thank you from Aberdeenshire’s Ann Smart

A big thank you to all the lovely messages and cards I have received on the honorary membership at Banchory Golf Club.

Golf has been a great part of my life. Offices held at club leading to national and county selection, junior county golf seeing a young Laura Murray and Michele Thomson progress through all the ranks and now really successful Professional golfers.
Convincing Michele to give up the footie !  --

Then of course Aberdeenshire County Captain and that great Scottish Win with a great bunch of girls and not forgetting my back up team.

To get honorary membership is the icing on the cake.

There are a lot of famous names on that list and I’m very proud to be on it even though not for the same talent !

Banchory is a great club and the members make it.

Thank you.
Ann Smart

Many congratulations Ann -- so very very well deserved

As many will know from a previous post reported in  June - Click Here ---  Ann has been battling against lymphoma and is starting her second round of treatment tomorrow (27th July) -- Banchory's Morag Clapperton,  RLCGA Past captain June Lockhart and myself chat on zoom every Friday  and what an inspiration she is fighting this horrible disease. We all do have have great laughs with past stories on the golf course,  quizzes  and much more -- Good Luck Ann and hope to be back on the chat at the end of this week and get that game of golf eventually.

In the final day’s matches, Aberdeenshire came flying out of the blocks against Renfrewshire winning all of the morning foursomes to take a 3-0 lead into lunch.

COUNTY FINALS AT KILMACOLM - DAY 2 - RENFREWSHIRE WIN AND MIDLOTHIAN STAGE A COMEBACK AGAINST ABERDEENSHIRE

Renfrewshire's Donna Jackson and Liz Stewart

SOME PHOTOS FROM TODAY

Renfrewshire are odds-on favourites to retain the Scottish Women's County Championship at Kilmacolm after beating Dumfries-shire 6.5-2.5 today (Saturday) while their main rivals, Aberdeenshire, leading by 2pt after the foursomes, nosedived in the singles and lost 5.5-3.5 to Midlothian.

To win the title Aberdeenshire would need to win their final match on Sunday, against Renfrewshire, by a big-enough margin to cancel out the title-holder's commanding "goal difference" of 12-6 compared with Aberdeen's 9.5-8.5

Renfrewshire's stalwarts Donna Jackson and Liz Stewart  won their foursomes match comfortably in the morning and both picked up a point each in the afternoon. County Champion Eilidh Briggs won all her matches today with Jennifer Rankine picking up a point and a half.

Aberdeenshire's collapse in the singles - which they lost 5-1 - started with a shock 6 and 5 defeat for Curtis Cup player Shannon McWilliam from Aboyne at the hands of Karen Ferguson-Snedden who was three up after 10 holes.
