Susie Robertson from Elie and Earlsferry Ladies is believed to be the first woman to ever play all 556 courses in Scotland.

Susie Robertson (pictured above) from Elie & Earlsferry Ladies is believed to be the first woman to ever play all 556 courses in Scotland. 

 Did you know that there are roughly twice as many golf courses as munros (or mountains) in Scotland? Well, Susie Robertson of Elie & Earlsferry Ladies Golf Club in Fife, certainly does. 

When her husband announced in 2005 that he was going to climb every mountain in Scotland, she decided to do one-up on him and challenge herself to play every single golf course in the country by summer 2020. And guess what.... she's only gone and done it. 

 

She has played 556 Scottish courses over the last 15 years. It saw her travel over 40,000 miles from as far north as the island of Whalsay, as far west as Barra, as far east as Peterhead and right down south to St. Medan. 

She's ticked off all the courses on the official Visit Scotland 'Golf in Scotland' guide plus some extra ones. After completing 556 courses she now thinks she's played roughly 15,000 (!) holes of golf. 

Playing off a handicap of 18, Susie believes she is the first female to play every course in Scotland. She finished slightly later than planned due to lockdown (we think we can let her off though), and she has just completed her last 18 holes at Gleddoch, Renfrewshire. 

 Reflecting on her achievement Susie said: "I've played golf all my life but feel very fortunate to still be fit and able enough to play every golf course in Scotland. "I have travelled in excess of 40,000 miles, played in hail, wind, rain and of course lots of sunshine, but most importantly have met some wonderful people along the way and enjoyed every single second." 

 Naturally, the rest of the members at Elie & Earlsferry Ladies Golf Club, which was founded over a century ago in 1884, are absolutely thrilled for her. 

 

Captain Susan Kennedy said "What an achievement it is. 

 To play every single course in Scotland takes a lot of time and dedication and we, at her home club, are all immensely proud of Susie's success."

Ranfurly Castle Tri Am Open day Results

The Ranfurly Castle Ladies Open day Tri-Am was held on Thursday 18th July.  

90 ladies took part in the event and the weather proved better than expected with only a few showers but a very stiff wind.

Two scores from three to count with all three scores at the 18th.

ELAINE MOFFAT WINS THE FIFE COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

On a lovely sunny, but bit windy and cold day at Elie Golf House Club on Sunday 12th May, the semi-finals and finals of the Fife Championship took place.

The semi-final matches of both the scratch and handicap were played in the morning with Elaine Moffat beating Gillian Paton 3 & 2 & Jocelyn Mackie beating Zoe Ridgeway by 1 hole in the scratch matches and Ann Shepherd beating Joan Prentice 2 & 1 and Linda Watson beating Heather Young 5 & 4 in the handicap matches.

The County Championship was won by Elaine Moffat beating Jocelyn Mackie in the Final by 4 & 3

The Handicap Championship final was a Lochgelly affair and was won by Ann Shepherd, who was defending her title, beating Linda Watson 4 & 2.

1967 Evening Time Scottish Ladies Foursomes Winners

It is with great sadness to announce the death of Mae Noble on Sunday 24th February.

Mae played for the RLCGA County Team from 1966 - 1988 and played for Scotland 7 times in the Scottish Vets team. 

She was Haggs Castle Golf Club Ladies Champion 8 times and Erskine champion 13 times. She won the County Rosebowl in 1980 and 1982 and lost in the semi finals of the West of Scotland Championship in 1969 to Sandra Needham.

Her great County "partner in crime" was the late Jean Brown of Erskine and both were seen on many occasions, before and after county medals and matches, playing the fruit machines and having much laughter and fun.

The highlight of Mae's golfing career was winning the Evening Times Scottish Ladies' Foursomes in 1967 with Aileen Wilson (Haggs Castle) and having a couple of Holes in One in later years.

Mae then moved to Elie with her husband Harry (died in 2011)  and she played her golf at Elie Golf Club  until she was 86 when her balance became very poor. 
She was very sad about this as golf was her life and she said then " The spirit is willing but the body is just not able'

In July 2018 Mae suffered a slight stroke and this further knocked her confidence and in October her daughter Lynda Smith (Douglas Park) and son Guy moved her back to Glasgow to a home nearby Lynda in Bearsden. 

She would have been 91 on the 14th March 2019.

We send Lynda and Guy and all the family our sincere condolences.

The funeral is at Dalnotter Crematorium on Friday 15th March at 11:30am  -- Glasgow Herald Announcement

It's Gabrielle MacDonald v Gemma Batty in the Scottish Final at Elie

It's a MacDonald v Batty Scottish women's amateur final at Elie on Saturday Gabrielle MacDonald (Craigielaw), the 2014 champion and beaten finalist in 2016, is through to her third Scottish women's amateur championship final. 

She will play Gemma Batty (West Linton) in Saturday's final of the 104th staging of the tournament, at Golf Club House, Elie in Fife. MacDonald knocked out the No 1 seed, Chloe Goadby (St Regulus) at the 23rd hole in a marathon morning quarter-final tie. 
Then she squeezed past Hannah McCook (Grantown on Spey) with a birdie 2 at the short 21st hole. 

Batty was three under par in beating the 2016 champion, Ailsa Summers (Carnoustie Ladies) by 5 and 4 in the semi-finals, having beaten Tara Mactaggart (Minto) by 3 and 2 in the morning quarter-finals. Summers had won at the 19th in the quarter-finals against Jasmine Mackintosh (Hazlehead), conqueror of defending champion Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) earlier in the tournament. 

The Clark Rosebowl was won by Louise Fraser (Kingsknowe) who birdied the 18th for a one-hole win over Katie Scott  (Strathaven)

2018 Scottish Championship Matchplay Results

Hazlehead's Jasmine Mackintosh (pictured) toppled the defending champion Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies), winner of the Scottish women's amateur championship at Royal Aberdeen 12 months ago, in today's (Thursday) second round of the 104th tournament at Golf House Club, Elie in Fife. 
 Mackintosh, not in the top 10 of the 32 match-play qualifiers from the 36-hole stroke-play eliminator, scrambled through her first match-play tie, winning at the 24th against Molly Richmond (Strathaven). 
Far from sapping her energies, Jasmine came out like a lion refreshed for her afternoon second-round tie and was four up after 11 holes against Jaffrey before achieving a famous victory by 4 and 3. 
Hannah McCook (Grantown on Spey), winner of the Welsh and Irish stroke play titles in consecutive weekends recently, KO'd Sheena Wood (Aberdeen Ladies) by 4 and 3 but had to go to the 19th in the second round to take the measure of Lorna McClymont (Milngavie). 
Top seed Chloe Goadby (St Regulus) reached the last eight fairly comfortably although she had to win the 18th to chalk up a two-hole victory over Louise Duncan (West Kilbride) in the second round.

Chloe Goadby leads the Scottish Amateur Championship Qualifiers

 Chloe Goadby (St Regulus) earned the top seeding spot with rounds of 67 and 70 for nine-under-par 137 after the two stroke-play qualifying rounds of the 140th Scottish women's amateur championship at Golf House Club, Elie in Fife.
The No 2 seed is Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) who won the title at Royal Aberdeen 12 months ago. Her second-round 68 in a 138 total put her ahead of young Hazel MacGarvie (Troon Ladies) who had a 71 on the second day.
The in-form Goadby had a bogey-free, three-under-par 70 in the second round, highlighted by birdies at three par-5 holes, the fourth, ninth and 12th.
Jaffrey had six birdies and one bogey in halves of 32-36. MacGarvie's tally was five birdies and three bogeys in halves of 35-36.
Hannah McCook (Grantown on Spey) qualified in fifth place on 140, being edged out of the fourth seed spot by Hannah Darling (Broomieknowe) whose second-round of 70 was two strokes better than McCook.

Scottish Women's Amateur Championship --   Enter Now

The Scottish Women's Amateur Championship returns to Elie for the first time since 1975 with the opportunity to enjoy five days of golf on Fife's glorious East Neuk from 5 - 9 June. 

This historic national event, first played in 1903, is the pinnacle of the women's amateur game in Scotland, with fun, friendship and competition on one of the country's most enjoyable links courses. Elie is less than an hour's drive from Edinburgh, Perth and Dundee and is located just 12 miles from St Andrews. 

At £50 entry fee, you are guaranteed three rounds including your practice round, with the top-32 qualifying for the top flight match play stages, and the next 16 players earning a place in the Clark Rosebowl. 

Or, you can simply enjoy two rounds of stroke play if you opt not to compete in the match play stages later in the week. 

Entries close on Monday 7 May with a handicap limit of 20.
