Scotland's Jane Turner wins SA Women’s Masters on third playoff hole

It took three trips down the 18th in a playoff before Scotland’s Jane Turner (pictured above) emerged victorious over South Africa’s Cara Gorlei in the Standard Bank South Africa Women’s Masters at San Lameer Country Club on Friday.

Starting the day with a three-shot lead, Jane struggled to a one-over 73 to finish on one-under alongside Gorlei, who carded a two-under 70.
In the playoff, Jane had the measure of the par-four 18th and narrowly missed a birdie attempt – but the tap-in was enough to give her the win.

Alison Muirhead - Photo Courtesy of the Ladies European Tour
Amy Boulden and Alison Muirhead share the lead heading into the final round of LET Qualifying School at La Manga Club in Murcia.

The leaders are tied on five-under-par 283 after four rounds, including two rounds on the North and South Courses respectively.

After a tough third round of 77 on the North Course, co-leader Muirhead was delighted to bounce back with a bogey-free three-under-par round of 70 on the South.
The 21-year-old Scot said: “It was really steady today and I enjoyed it. The conditions altered during the round so it was good to keep it steady and hit a lot of greens.
I just kept lipping out for birdie, so it was very nice to see the ball rolling close today and to bounce back, especially after yesterday.

I’m very pleased. “I’m feeling really good heading into tomorrow. It’s obviously another day, but I feel like my putter is working well. I didn’t hole as many putts today, but you obviously save them for the next day, so I’m really looking forward to tomorrow.”

ALISON MUIRHEAD MAKES MAGIC MOVE AT LA MANGA

Alison Muirhead
Scotland’s Alison Muirhead took control of the Pre-Qualifier for the 2020 LET season after firing a sensational career best seven-under-par 64 over the North Course at La Manga Club in Cartagena, Spain.
The 21-year-old from Scotland moved to nine-under-par and opened up a five shot lead heading into the final round. A delighted Muirfield reflected: “I started pretty slow on the front nine and made the turn in one-under-par. Ironically, on my back nine the wind picked up but so did my game.
“I birdied the tenth hole and it really gave me momentum. The highlight of my round came at the par-5 12th hole which I eagled. I hit a superb four iron from 225 yards and rolled in a 25 foot putt. Coming down the stretch I played some excellent golf and rolled in four more birdies.”
Alison, was born in Johannesburg and currently lives in Dubai where she practices at Jumeirah Golf Estates. She added on a memorable day in Spain: “The North Course is a tough test and has some narrow tee shots. I have been working hard on my game and I am so happy to shoot my best ever score when it really matters. There is still a lot of golf to be played but this has given me a lot of confidence. My Mum is here watching and I’m sure will be ecstatic for me.”
Scotland's Heather Macrae finished in 16th place and Hannah McCook just made the cut tied 58th.
Kimberley Beveridge and Heather Stirling missed the cut
The top 60 players and ties will make it through to final stage of Qualifying which will be played over the North and South courses 22nd – 26th September.

LPGA and LET Join Forces to Drive Growth of Women’s Professional Golf in Europe

Two of golf’s most important stakeholders agree to a long-term partnership to significantly grow awareness, sponsor support, and professional playing opportunities for women in Europe.

The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and the Ladies European Tour (LET) today announced that they will unite in a joint venture partnership to push women’s professional golf to new heights in Europe and around the world. The combination of the LET’s European expertise and relationships in the region, with the LPGA’s global strength and worldwide exposure, and their shared vision for the future of women’s professional golf and growth of the game, provides the core ingredients to ignite a tour loaded with upside potential.

LET players voted their support for the joint venture partnership on Tuesday during the LET’s Annual Membership Meeting in Spain.

“Two teams, joining for one common purpose, will create opportunities we simply could not have pursued on our own,” said LET Board Chair Marta Figueras-Dotti. “At its foundation, this joint venture is about creating opportunities for our members to pursue their passion, and their careers as professional athletes. In just the 60 days since we began working on this joint venture, we have already seen a dramatic impact on our LET Tour schedule – an impact that will be a positive result for virtually all of our LET Members.”

The LPGA and LET share a common vision to strengthen the presence of women’s golf in Europe. A thriving Europe-based women’s professional tour is critical to help women from the continent pursue their dreams through the game of golf, and for the overall health and growth of the game globally. Perhaps most importantly, a strong women’s tour in Europe will expose millions of young girls to the great athletes, leaders and role models of the LET, helping to inspire the next generation of European players.

“This is an exciting next step for the LPGA’s mission to provide more opportunities for women in this game. Over the past 10 years, the LPGA has had tremendous success partnering with other golf stakeholders, including the USGA, PGA Tour, European Tour, R&A and PGA of America, to enhance opportunities for women worldwide. We are thrilled to deepen our relationship with the Ladies European Tour in an effort to create the strongest possible women’s tour in Europe,” said LPGA Commissioner Michael Whan. “We have experienced incredible growth in women’s golf in the U.S., and this is an extraordinary opportunity to accelerate and expand the game in Europe as well. I’m excited that this is something we will build together, with the LET.”

The venture will be jointly managed by the LPGA and the LET and, through their combined resources, will seek to fast track an expanded LET schedule. This year’s LET schedule currently includes 20 official events in 13 different countries, with eight of those events in Europe, including two major championships, The Evian Championship and the AIG Women’s British Open. The partnership aims to immediately increase playing opportunities for women in Europe, and to have that schedule growth lead to both increased financial opportunities and an optional pathway to the LPGA for the tour’s top performers.

Kelsey MacDonald's 2019 Season is nearing an end

Kelsey at Hero Women's Indian Open tournament

From Peak Scientific  - Sponsors

Kelsey MacDonald’s 2019 season is nearing its end as the year comes to a close. Three of Kelsey’s higher profiled events and prize funds allowed her to jump into 32nd spot on the ladies’ order of merit.

Being back to top 10’s has really given Kelsey the confidence to go into the last events and finish the season off strong. With positive results and two more tournaments to go, Kelsey gives us an update:

In September, I played at Golf du Medoc in the Lacoste Ladies Open de France and finished with a bogey free 67 on the final round to finish in 16th place. I finished my week with -5 67 on the final day which was one of the lowest scores of the Kelsey at Lacoste Ladies Open de France

I was then off to Barcelona, Spain, for the Estrella Damm Mediterranean Open, where I scored a T10. Shortly after that I travelled to India for Hero Women's Indian Open. On my second round in the tournament, I made a hole in one on the 16th hole. I holed a 7-iron which was my second hole in one in tournament in my professional career. Unfortunately, I didn’t win a prize but it was great to have so many people congratulate me

I now have two more tournaments to go, with the Andalucia Costa Del Sol Open de Espana in Spain at the end of November, and the Magical Kenya Open in December – but I’ll be heading out to Spain a week before my event to try and find the sunshine and practise in warmer climes since it’s already cold in Scotland!

Congratulations on your recent scores Kelsey! Peak Scientific is proud to sponsor such a dedicated and talented female golfer – wishing you the best of luck in your last two 2019 tournaments!

LAURA MURRAY CLAIMS SECOND LETAS TITLE AT RÜGENWALDER MÜHLE LADIES OPEN

Laura Murray - (Photo courtesy of the LET Access Tour)

Scotland’s Laura Murray produced some sensational golf to claim her second LETAS title, with a -14 total, in the Rügenwalder Mühle Ladies Open at Golf Club am Meer in Bad Zwischenahn, Germany. The 31-year-old led from round one, opening with a stunning eight under par, 64, to take a two shot lead over Germany’s Luisa Dittrich who recorded a 66 on the opening day.

Murray was solid throughout the week, driving the ball extremely well and producing some impressive iron play. When the Scot looks back on her win, she will probably remember the decision to try out a different putter that sat at home for some three years without being used.

“If feels incredible, it’s really good. I’ve been working really hard for this all season and I feel I’ve been knocking on the door recently and nice to finally cross the line and get the job done. I think my attitude on the course was pretty good. I just kept telling myself to keep smiling and just concentrated on what I was doing and holed a few putts and that kept me smiling a bit more. I’ve been playing so solid it was quite a nice relaxing week for me. And my attitude certainly helped me through it.”

“I put this other putter in my bag. It’s been sitting in my apartment for like three years and I just thought why not let’s chuck it in. Yes, definitely, sometimes just changing something can get a different feeling and it certainly helped this week so I think that will be staying in the bag.”

Murray’s win has catapulted her into 4th place on the Order of Merit and she now is in within touching distance of securing her playing rights on the Ladies European Tour for the 2020 season, but Murray doesn’t plan to get ahead of herself.

“I’m going to approach it in the same way because it worked so well this week so now I know I’m 4th then there’s a good chance of securing that top 5 in the Order of Merit. I’m looking forward to see what we can do next week and to see what the course is going to offer and I’m sure it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Other Scots
29th: Jane Turner - Even Par
46th: Gabrielle MacDonald +7

The season finale gets underway at Golf de La Largue in France, from the 4 – 6 October.

Laura Murry leads on Day 1 of the Rügenwalder Mühle Ladies Open

Laura Murray
Scotland’s Laura Murray claims the day one lead at Rügenwalder Mühle Ladies Open with a stunning eight-under round of 64 at the Golf Club am Meer. Germany’s Luisa Dittrich ended the day two adrift of Murray after a terrific six-under 66 in her home event, whilst Sweden’s Isabella Deilert is a shot further back on -5.

Murray made the perfect start to her round with successive birdies on the opening two holes in Bad Zwischenahn. A huge drive led to a third birdie at the par-5 seventh before a rare missed drive at the ninth slipped the leader back to two-under at the midway point.

After a solid opening nine holes, the experienced Scot found her rhythm down the back nine with six birdies and no dropped shots coming back. Murray has been frustrated in recent weeks with strong tee-to-green play being let down on the putting surface but speaking after the round Murray had no such frustrations with a change of putter proving the key to her change in fortunes at the German course.

The other Scot in the field is Jane Turner who finished on 2 under and who lies in 11th place. She was delighted to have no bogeys in her round

With the Rügenwalder Mühle Ladies Open the final event before the season ending Road to La Largue Final, Friday’s second round is crucial for many players with vital qualifying points up for grabs. Overnight leader Murray will be conscious that a large group of players remain in contention and equally determined to secure a LET Access Series victory as the end of the season approaches setting the scene for a terrific day’s play once again in Bad Zwischenahn.

Carly Booth wins the Czech Ladies Open

Scotland’s Carly Booth ended a seven year wait for her third Ladies European Tour title with victory in the Tipsport Czech Ladies Open, a dual-ranking event with the LET Access Series.
Booth carded rounds of 68, 69 and 70 for a 54-hole total of 207, nine-under-par, at Golf Resort Karlštejn to finish a stroke ahead of Finland’s Sanna Nuutinen, France’s Anais Meysonnier and English pair Charlotte Thompson and Hayley Davis.
Germany’s Olivia Cowan ended in sixth place and amateur Patricie Mackova was the leading Czech player in a share of 12th.
Booth won both of her previous titles in 2012, at the Scottish and Swiss Opens, and was overwhelmed with emotion when she realised that she had posted the winning total. After completing her final round, she asked the tour photographer what the leading score was and then how many people were on it. He said, “Just you: you’ve won,” and she burst into tears.
Her topsy-turvy round included seven birdies and five bogeys and she asked her caddie, Andy Carter, the golf professional at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, “Have I just played golf, or been at Alton Towers? I never want to go on a rollercoaster again.”
She began the final round tied for the lead with Nuutinen on seven-under-par but had a nervy start, hitting her first drive right, out of bounds and then dropping three shots in her first four holes.
However, she produced a gutsy fightback with brilliant birdies on the fifth, seventh and ninth holes, to make the turn in level par, regaining a share of the lead.
At the fifth, she made a birdie putt from eight feet and then on the par-5 seventh, she holed a massive left to right breaking putt from 20 feet, before hitting a punch wedge in to five feet at the ninth and converting the putt.
She took the outright advantage after birdies on the 11th and 13th holes, playing a 5-iron shot into within six feet of the flag on the 11th and then chipping in on the long 13th, but hit a wall at 14 with a bogey, followed by another on the 15th, where she made another great up and down from 54 yards.
From that point, the game plan was to birdie each of the final three holes and she managed two further gains, on the 16th and 17th, before finishing with a par on the last. “It was probably just as well I didn’t know what the situation was,” said Booth.
“I’m a little bit flabbergasted by the whole day. I played good golf and I really had to dig deep in the final round. I’m overwhelmed with happiness,” she said.
“It’s been seven years, so it’s a bit of a shock. Not knowing what the winning score was, I didn’t know anything about the leader board and I made a really solid par in the end.
“It’s a country that I love to visit, I’ve had some great results here in the Czech Republic in Pro-Ams and to win the tournament means more than anything. After seven years, finally, to get another victory, it’s amazing.”
Booth, originally from Comrie in Perthshire, said that she was heading home to Manchester the same evening, where she would celebrate over the Bank Holiday with her friends.

Carly Booth leading Scot at Ladies Scottish Open as Dame Laura has a Hole in One

Dame Laura Davies made a hole-in-one at the 152-yard fifth using a pitching wedge in the second round of the Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club this morning and signed for an incredible three-under-par 68, just before play was suspended due to unplayable conditions at 13.04.
Davies said it was the second best round of her 34-year career, due to the ‘horrific’ conditions, with heavy rain and strong winds, gusting at 35 miles per hour.
Davies said it was her best round since the 1996 Canadian Open, which she won on a tree-lined course in a gale.
When play was suspended, the European Solheim Cup vice-captain tied for 27th position on a 36 hole total of two-under-par, two strokes behind the clubhouse leader, Hyo Joo Kim, with Sarah Schmelzel and Caroline Hedwall having finished on three-under-par. Linda Wessberg also shot a three-under-par 68 this morning for the joint lowest round of the day so far. She was tied for 57th on par and just inside the cut line when play was suspended.
The first round leaders Mi Hyang Lee and Anne Van Dam had only just teed off, while joint overnight leader Jane Park had yet to start.
After persistent rain all morning, a shard of light appeared through the clouds at around 2.30pm and conditions appeared to be drying up.
Play resumed at 3.25pm after a 2 hour, 21 minute delay and the weather completely changed for the afternoon side of the draw.
Play was yet again suspended later in the day with Mi Jung Hur (Korea) completing her second round of 62 to be in the lead at 14 under par.

SCOTTISH PLAYERS
Carly Booth managed to complete her round and was the leading scot in the Clubhouse on 5 under par.
Kylie Henry is currently on 4 under after 15 holes followed by Pamela Pretswell Asher on 2 under after 14 holes.
The projected cut is level par and Gemma Dryburgh has finished on +1. Michele Thomson is also on +1 after 16 holes.
Kelsey MacDonald and Catriona Matthew will both have missed the cut.

Pamela Pretswell Asher is the leading Scot on Day one of the Ladies Scottish Open

NORTH BERWICK, Scotland (AP) - Jane Park, Anne van Dam and Mi Hyang Lee took advantage of calm conditions in the opening round of the Ladies Scottish Open on Thursday, shooting 8-under 63s to share the lead.
Lee won the Ladies Scottish Open two years ago at Dundonald. The veteran Park and the rookie van Dam are seeking their first LPGA Tour victories.
Moriya Jutanugarn was one shot back on a sunny day of low scoring at The Renaissance Club, a resort links next to Muirfield on Scotland's East coast. Players were bracing for wind and rain on Friday.
"When I see the forecast, today is like best day and then tomorrow is worst day," Lee said. "So my plan, my kind of plan was I try to make a lot of birdies."
Van Dam, a long-hitting Dutch player known for viral videos of her swing, hit a 5-iron to 4 feet for eagle on the par-5 first hole and 6-iron to 3 feet for another eagle on the par-5 12th. She wasn't pleased that tees were moved up on several holes, including those where she took full advantage.

Leading Scot was Pamela Pretswell Asher on 2 under.
Kylie Henry and Carly Booth finished on 1 under.
Catriona Matthew and Kelsey MacDonald finished on Even Par.
Gemma Dryburgh on +3 and Michele Thomson on +4

No golfing experience is required and welcome drinks will be served to all attendees on arrival as well as a free shuttle service being in operation from North Berwick Train Station to the golf course.

It’s important for us to bring in new fans to golf and we hope that Ladies Day offers women, who might not have previous golfing experience, the opportunity to visit The Renaissance Club and have a fantastic day out.”

In addition to Ladies Day, Solheim Cup Sunday is also new to the 2019 tournament. In support of the Solheim Cup, which takes place at nearby Gleneagles from 9 – 15 September 2019, fans are encouraged to get behind the tournament by wearing Team Europe or Team USA colours to pledge their support of their favourite team in the biennial contest.
The best-dressed fan will receive a special Solheim Cup pin flag signed by all the European Team and there will be on the spot prizes for those that have made the effort.

Another special guest Q&A will take place in the spectator village with a number of Solheim Cup stars, giving fans the opportunity to ask what it is like to be part of one of the world’s greatest golf events.

The Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open is the last qualifying event for Team Europe ahead of final selection announcement on Monday 12th August as well being the penultimate qualifying event for Team USA. With plenty of last minute qualifying points on offer, it is all to play for.

Paul Bush, Director of Events with VisitScotland, said, “The Solheim Cup is one of the world’s greatest golf events and with it taking place just one month after the Ladies Scottish Open, it only felt right to put on a day for the fans to show their support. Scotland’s Catriona Matthew will captain Team Europe for the first time and we hope that spectators and fans alike can get behind her and all the players at the Ladies Scottish Open who are looking to qualify for each of the prestigious teams.”

This event will feature and promote East Lothian.  Scotland’s Food & Drink County marquee will showcase the diversity and quality of local produce that will be available for tasting and purchase and the Scotland’s Golf Coast on course activation zone will give visitors an opportunity to find out more about the golfing, accommodation and leisure offering in the area.
