Greenlees Secretary Maureen Mitchell (Old Ranfurly) opened the proceedings by welcoming everyone to the 78th Anniversary Year of the Greenlees Trophy.
She stated that it was unfortunate that our club members had been reduced as Cawder Golf Club had withdrawn from the league.

She took the opportunity to remind the club secretaries that their lists of  players and the Greenlees fee were now due if they had not already sent them in.

She then introduced the top table guests -  Pat Lunney, the Lady Captain of Cowglen, who welcomed everyone on behalf of the Club.
She then introduced Carol Fell and thanked her for setting up and keeping all the Greenlees results together and enabling everyone to be able to keep up to date with the league positions on the web.

Cowglen Golf Club Organisers --

The runners up in Division 1 were West Kilbride who were  beaten by the overall winners - Troon. JULIE WILSON AND JOY McLEOD TAKE THE TOP HONOURS AT THE RENFREWSHIRE COUNTY MEDAL AT BONNYTON

Numbers were up for the Renfrewshire Ladies' County August Medal at Bonnyton GC yesterday.

The mist was down for the early morning rounds and a heavy dew on the grass but it soon lifted and it actually ended up quite a warm day even though the sun decided not to make an appearance.

There was some excellent scoring, with Julie Wilson, from Williamwood, winning scratch with a gross 77, nett 73.

Julie Wilson - Scratch Winner

However, it was a case of a clean sweep for Ranfurly Castle Players thereafter with Division 1 winner, narrowly beating Julie Wilson in a count back,  being our very own County stalwart Carol Fell with a 84 nett 73.
Carol Fell - Winner of Division 1

But it was her fellow club member Joy McLeod, who only joined the County this year, with a round of 95, nett 72  being the overall winner with the best nett score of the day and winner of Division 2 (Handicap 13 upwards)  Well done, Joy a great start to your County membership !

Joy McLeod - Winner of August Medal and Division 2

But it's okay they are still pals !

GREEENLEES LUNCH AND TROPHY PRESENTATION

Milngavie, Cathkin Braes, Loudoun Gowf and Cathcart Castle with the Trophies
The 72nd Greenlees Lunch and Presentation of Trophies was held at Williamwood Golf Club today.

Gill Unick  (Williamwood Greenlees Secretary) organised the event and was helped on the day by next years Williamwood Greenlees Secretary Christine Leitch

Most of the clubs from the 3 divisions within the Greenlees Trophy (55 ladies) were represented and what a great celebration they all had.
They were welcomed warmly by Williamwood's Jinty Roger who was standing in for the Lady Captain Lesley Forsyth. On arrival everyone received a complementary glass of wine and after an excellent grace by Anne Dunn a beautiful lunch was had by all.

Anne Dunn the West of Scotland Greenlees Secretary then stood up after the meal and said ----

It is a great pleasure to have been invited to Williamwood for our annual lunch and Presentation of prizes.   This day takes more organizing than I thought with a lot of people behind the scenes doing the hard work.  There are a number of people to thank for making this event happen.

FIRSTLY: I wish to thank Jinty Roger, for taking the time to join us for lunch today and for her very kind words of welcome

SECONDLY: I would like to thank the Club Captain and the committee for allowing us to hold the function here and for their generous gift of wine on our arrival.

THIRDLY: Gill and her assistant Christine and without them this lunch would have never taken place and I owe a great debt to Gill for her advice and organizational skills.
The beautiful floral arrangements on the tables are also due to Gill.   May I ask her to pass on to the chef and his staff our thanks for a beautiful meal.

FOURTHLY: I would like to pass on your thanks to Carol Fell for taking the photographs today.   I am always amazed that Carol has the time to be at all the functions she attends and all the jobs she manages to do.   I intend to ask her how she manages to get more than twenty-four hours into her day.   If I get an answer I will let you know – I think we could all make use of the advice.

NOW TO the real business of the day

PRESENTATION OF PRIZES

She then asked Jinty to present the winning teams in each division with their trophies.

Greenlees Trophy 2008

Last week saw the completion of all three divisions of the 2008 Greenlees Trophy matches. I hope all the teams have enjoyed their games and that they have felt the new system we have tried this year, of having fixture dates and result tables available on the West of Scotland website, has been beneficial.

My thanks go to
Carol Fell who assisted me at the beginning of the season to set everything up and we have worked together through the season to try and make sure that it all ran according to plan.

Several clubs had to postpone matches due to weather conditions and I am only surprised that more matches did not require postponement considering what a wet summer we have endured!

Congratulations to
The Ladies Golf Club Troon, promoted from Division 2 last year, to being winners of the Greenlees Trophy this year, with 47.5 points. Ranfurly Castle are runners up with 42.5. ---- Well done!

Congratulations to
Milngavie, promoted from Division 3 at the end of last season and now to be promoted to Division 1 for season 2009 after winning Division 2 this year with a total of 46.5 points closely followed by West Kilbride on 45 points.

Division 3 is topped by
Williamwood and Eastwood on 52.5 points each. The rules for The Greenlees Trophy had to be consulted in order to separate the two teams and Williamwood narrowly came out on top. Disappointing for Eastwood after a very good season but both will have the pleasure of moving to Division 2 for season 2009.

For all the season's results click on the following link: GREENLEES DIVISIONAL TOTALS

Well done to all the teams who participated and for the friendly and competitive way that the matches have been played. I hope you will all look forward to season 2009.

The 2008 Peugeot Coronation Foursomes Grand Final

Press Release from the LGU
The Peugeot Coronation Foursomes has once again underlined its position as the UK’s most popular competition for lady club golfers, with more than 34,000 competitors from more than 1300 clubs taking part in this year’s event.

This year’s Grand Final will take place over the testing Eden Course, St Andrews on Monday 22nd September and on that day 12 foursome pairs from as far a field as Kinghorn and Southampton will compete for the coveted national title. The winning pairs also enjoy two nights accommodation in the luxurious Old Course Hotel as part of their prize.

Early in this National Championship, pairs from throughout the country compete in club qualifying rounds, with the winners progressing through to one of 12 Area Finals. Up to 100 winning club pairs compete at each Area Final, all aiming for a place in the Grand Final in St. Andrews. Winning the Grand Final is not the end for the successful pair, as a place in the Pro-Am of the 2009 Ricoh Women’s British Open, and chance to play with one of the world’s leading women professionals at Royal Lytham & St. Anne’s, awaits the eventual winners.

Last year’s winners, the Lothianburn mother and daughter pairing of Karina Matson and Elspeth Adair, had the excitement of playing in this year’s pro-am over the Old Course, Sunningdale with leading professional and Solheim Cup player Laura Davis. When asked about the experience Karina said: ‘We hoped we would get to play with Laura but never in our wildest dreams thought we would get the chance. It was fantastic playing with her and we didn’t want the experience to end. She was very patient and spent lots of time giving us hints and tips and asking how we were getting on. It truly was a once in a lifetime experience’.

This was sentiment was echoed by Shona Malcolm, Chief Executive of the Ladies' Golf Union who said: “The pro-am really is the icing on the cake after three nerve-wracking rounds of competition. This is the seventh year that Peugeot has sponsored the Coronation Foursomes and we are indebted to them for their continued support which enables the LGU to enhance the tournament year on year for each of the 34,000 competitors.”

Further details and information on how to enter the 2009 Peugeot Coronation Foursomes will be available online at www.lgu.org in due course.

It was the battle of the Briggs sisters from Kilmacolm in today's 18-hole RLCGA Championship final at Bonnyton Golf Club.
Megan, 18, won the the title for the third year in a row by beating her 14-year-old sister Eilidh by 4 and 3.

Eilidh kept her hopes alive by winning the 12th before the 13th was halved.
Megan went three up again with a par at the 14th and this time there was no way back for young Elidh.
Megan birdied the 15th for a 4 and 3 winning margin - but how lucky Kilmacolm Golf Club and we are to have two such talented youngsters.
In the semi-finals, Megan, the leading qualifier, won by 4 and 2 against former internationalist Donna Jackson (Cochrane Castle), winner of the County title 10 times in the past, while Eilidh, the No 3 seed, beat the No 2 qualifier, Sarah McCorkell (Williamwood) - nee Harman by one hole.
