Day 3 Jamboree — Ayrshire Win County Jamboree

Ayrshire Team - Photo Courtesy of Fiona Armour

Ayrshire and Lanarkshire had a great final match against each other today to decide who would go forward to the County Finals at Peebles at the end of August.

Susan Woodhouse and Susan Wood

Lanarkshire took hold of the morning foursomes by winning 2 and 1 by virtue of the final game where the Lanarkshire pairing of Susan Wood and Susan Woodhouse were in top form with birdies and eagles to defeat Ayrshire's Louise Duncan and Hazel MacGarvie.

However in the afternoon singles Ayrshire's exceedingly strong team produced some fantastic golf to eventually come through all the weeks matches undefeated.

In the other match Renfrewshire and D&A had a very close match with the foursomes and the singles matches being halved.

At the prize giving at the end of the day Ayrshire's Captain Liz Wilson announced that the 2020 Jamboree will be hosted by D&A at Cardross GC

The course was in lovely condition and we were lucky to have a sunny afternoon with light winds. The girls took part in a tri-am format for the first 12 and then a greensomes to finish over the last 6 holes. Some lovely golf on display and it was worthwhile for those girls that were available to help with locating some of the hazards and club selections.

Everyone is looking forward to the the Junior West of Scotland Kennedy Salver and hope as many supporters can make it along on the day.

ELAINE MOFFAT SPEAKS TO SCOTTISH GOLF AFTER HER VICTORY

Elaine Moffat - Scottish Seniors Matchplay Champion (Photo Courtesy of Scottish Golf)

Elaine Moffat from St Regulus Ladies Golf Club today capped a dominant week in Edzell by defending her Scottish Senior Women’s Open title.

Following her victory in the strokeplay earlier in the week, Moffat continued her good form right through the matchplay, eventually being crowned Champion with a 2&1 victory over Donna Jackson of Troon Ladies in this afternoon’s Final.
It was a tough final for Moffat who had to work hard for her victory against Jackson, finding herself 2 down after 8 before a birdie at the 9th helped close the gap to 1.  A solid back 9 then saw her take the title on the 17thgreen.
Speaking to Scottish Golf after her victory, Moffat said, “I’m quite elated and on a bit of a high.  I think it will sink in over the weekend, it’s unbelievable.
“The final was a lot harder than I would have liked, I made it very difficult for myself.  I played some nice golf but also some uncharacteristic golf.  I think that was just the pressure and Donna is such a tough opponent.  That was one of the hardest matches I’ve ever played.”
Moffat had earlier beaten Jennifer Bryans of Harburn Golf Club in the semi-finals 5&3 in glorious conditions in Angus while runner-up Jackson reached the final with a 4&3 win over Aileen Baker of Crail.
On the week’s host venue Edzell, Moffat added, “The course has been out of this world.  The greens are immaculate, the fairways are in tip-top shape, everything is so well thought out and for it to stand up to the rain yesterday is testament to how good it was.”
