KYLIE WALKER EQUALS LET RECORD FOR LOWEST 36-HOLE TOTAL

Kylie Walker
Wörthsee/Munich - West of Scotland’s Kylie Walker fired a second straight round of eight-under-par 64 in scorching conditions at Golfclub Wörthsee to equal the all-time record for the lowest 36-hole total in a Ladies European Tour (LET) event.

At 128, 16-under-par, Walker leads by three strokes over China’s Yu Yang Zhang, who shot a second round 67, with Dutchwoman Dewi Claire Schreefel a stroke further behind in outright third place.

The last woman to post a 36-hole total of 16-under was Gwladys Nocera at the Goteborg Masters in Sweden in 2008, before she went on to record the LET’s lowest 72-hole winning total of 29-under-par.

Kylie led after every round of the Deloitte Ladies Open in Holland two months ago, which she went on to win, but the level-headed Glaswegian, 27, said:
“I’m not really used to being in this position. I led in Holland through the tournament but I haven’t thought about it. I just try to play one shot at a time.”

With six birdies on her front nine, Kylie went out in 30. She picked up a stroke at the first and then a hat-trick from the fourth, before adding two more birdies on holes eight and nine.

After driving left into the trees on hole-12, she took her first bogey in 30 holes, but immediately recovered with a birdie on 13. A pair of birdies followed on 15 and 16 and she dropped a shot on 17 but finished with a birdie on 18 for a back nine of 34.

She said: “I probably played a little bit better today because I had 10 birdies and two bogeys. I’m happy with how I’m playing and the score is looking good at the moment. We’ve got two more rounds and we’re really looking forward to the weekend.

“Going into the back nine today I was trying to beat my score from yesterday which was eight under, but I stumbled on 12 and caught a flier on 17 and ended up through the green.
"I made a couple of bogeys today, but I’ll keep playing the way I played today and see what happens.”

IN-FORM JAFFREY BIDS TO RETAIN GIRLS’ TITLE

SLGA NEWS RELEASE

Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) faces a strong field in defence of the Scottish U18 girls’ championship at Dumfries and County Golf Club next week ( from July 16-18).

The 17-year-old won the title at Ranfurly Castle 12 months ago and has since gone on to make her mark at adult level. She finished runner-up at the Helen Holm Scottish Open Strokeplay Championship at Troon in April and then reached the final of the Scottish Ladies’ Championship at Prestwick in May.

“Winning the Scottish girls last year was my goal and it’s great to be able to defend,” said the teenager (pictured) who is heading for Kansas State University in the autumn.

Jaffrey is the backmarker with a plus two handicap, but it won’t be easy to retain the coveted trophy.

Germany-based Fiona Liddell, who played in last year’s Junior Vagliano Trophy, is also playing off plus two while Clara Young (North Berwick), runner-up in last year’s Scottish Ladies’ Championship, has a plus one handicap.

Other strong contenders include the Troon Ladies youngsters, Hazel MacGarvie and Emma Hale, and Mill Green’s Nicola Callander, who won the 2012 Scottish Junior Open Strokeplay Championship.

Following two rounds of strokeplay, the top 16 players qualify for the matchplay knockout. The 18-hole final takes place on Friday afternoon.

Very good efforts by Troon's Hazel McGarvie (71 for 146 and 21st place) and Lauren Whyte (St Regulus) (72 for 148 and join 29th), as well as a gritty 73 from Monifieth's Heather Munro for 149 gave the Scots an outside chance but the tail did not wag and the team finished the 36-hole stroke play qualifying on 749, six shots behind the last of the championship flight qualifiers, Netherlands.

ALISON BARTLETT WINS THE SCOTTISH SENIORS MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

From the SLGA Website:

Alison Bartlett (pictured left - courtesy of the SLGA) confirmed she is the best senior player in Scotland by completing the Strokeplay and Matchplay Championship double at Elgin Golf Club.

The Royal Dornoch player was never headed in the Strokeplay Championship and she completed an impressive run in the Matchplay with a 3 and 1 win over West Vet Aex Glennie (Kilmarnock Barassie) in the 18 hole final.

One up at the turn in the final, the highlight for Bartlett was an eagle three at the 404 yard tenth. Glennie won the 14th to reduce the deficit to one but wins at the 15th and 17th secured victory.

In the semi-finals, Bartlett had a close one hole win over Kathleen Sutherland (Royal Montrose). All square with two to play, the Northern Counties golfer won the 17th in par and the 18th was halved.

In the other tie, Glennie was a 2 and 1 winner over Fiona De Vries (St Rule). Two down after three holes, back-to-back birdies at the fifth and sixth and more wins at the seventh and eighth put Glennie in control.

In the Nett Handicap Semi Finals Margot Barr won against West Vets Vice Captain Marion Stewart (Kilmacolm)  and Rita Dee beat Emma Wilson (Elie and Earlsferry)

Rita Dee from Kingsknowe Golf Club defeated Margot Barr (Nairn) in the Nett Championship Final 4&3.

ALISON BARTLETT WINS SCOTTISH SENIORS CHAMPIONSHIP AND WEST OF SCOTLAND SENIORS DO WELL

ALISON BARTLETT KEEPS COOL - AND WINS SCOTTISH SENIOR STROKE TITLE

Royal Dornoch's Alison Bartlett, winner of the Northern Counties women's championship a few weeks, added an even more prestigious title to her collection when she won the Scottish senior women's amateur stroke play championship for the first time at Elgin Golf Club today.
Third in the championship three years ago, when she also was the first-round leader, Alison was not headed on this occasion - although it was a close run thing in the end.
Noreen Fenton (Dunbar) and Alison were level at six over par for the tournament with three to play, one shot ahead of Liz Keohone (Loudoun Gowf)
The Royal Dornoch player, secretary of the Northern Counties Ladies Golf Association, kept her cool under pressure and parred the last three holes.
That made the winning difference in the final analysis. Noreen bogeyed the 16th and double bogeyed the 17th. The Dunbar player did finish with a birdie but it was too late to repair the damaged.
Bartlett's rounds of 75 and 79 for 10 over par 154 won her the title by two shots from four players on 156 - Noreen Fenton (76-80), Liz Keohone (77-79), Anne Ryan (Tain) (79-77) and Alex Glennie (Kilmarnock Barassie) 77 79.
Defending champion Anne Telfer (Milngavie) finished down the field with scores of 82 and 86 for 168. She did not make leading 16 who will now contest the Scottish senior women's match-play championship at the same venue over the next two days.
