Ranfurly Castle pair triumph in Renfrewshire County Winter Foursomes Final Marathon

Sheila Shaw, Jan Macnab, Captain June Lockhart
and Winter Foursomes Champions Marion Munro and Anne Judge

The Renfrewshire Ladies County Winter Foursomes was played today over Pollok Golf Course

Report from RLCGA Captain June Lockhart

Wow what a Final.  The course at Pollok Golf Club was in very good condition despite the testing elements, but all 4 finalists deserve medals.
It took 22 holes before the Ranfurly Castle pair of Anne Judge and Marion Munro eventually overcame Jan McNab (also Ranfurly Castle) and Sheila Shaw (Caldwell).

However all agreed that shot of the day belonged to Jan, who played an excellent shot from a fairway bunker onto the green on the 5th hole.

The number 6 was prominent in the first 18 holes – 6 shots given, 6 holes won by each pair and 6 holes halved ! How close was that.

Thanks to Carol McNally for organising the venue and to Sandra Littlejohn for refereeing the extra holes.

KITRINA DOUGLAS GOLF PSYCHOLOGY WORKSHOP AT COWGLEN GOLF CLUB

  • Do you wonder why you make silly mistakes on the golf course?
  • Perhaps you’ve never been able to stay calm teeing off in front of the clubhouse or when you get called through a group?
  • Maybe you are one of those golfers whose score plummets if your playing partner says something like “Oh, you played really well on the front nine”
  • Has your handicap stuck?
  • Do you have a ‘bogey’ hole or hazard that catches you out every time you’re playing well?
  • Do you have goals and ambitions for your golf that seem to get thwarted each year?
  • Would you like to change?

These are just a few of the issues to be addressed during Women & Golf Workshops.

The aim is to help you feel more confident, focused and be better prepared for your golf and the coming season.

Dr Kitrina Douglas will show you how it is possible to climb some of the mountains you didn’t think you could climb, whatever your age, handicap or skill level.

If the answer is YES to any of the above

- Then why not come along to Cowglen Golf Club on Sunday 10th March 2019 - 10am - 2:30pm

Cost £30 includes tea/coffee and lunchtime finger buffet
Please apply to Sue Fordyce at sue.fordyce54@gmail.com

Kitrina is a Women and Golf magazine columnist and former tour player. The Workshop aims to improve confidence, concentration and motivation, reduce anxiety and fear.

RENFREWSHIRE COUNTY STALWART MAE NOBLE HAS DIED. - Obituary and Glasgow Herald announcement

Mae Noble and Aileen Wilson
1967 Evening Time Scottish Ladies Foursomes Winners

It is with great sadness to announce the death of Mae Noble on Sunday 24th February.

Mae played for the RLCGA County Team from 1966 - 1988 and played for Scotland 7 times in the Scottish Vets team.

She was Haggs Castle Golf Club Ladies Champion 8 times and Erskine champion 13 times. She won the County Rosebowl in 1980 and 1982 and lost in the semi finals of the West of Scotland Championship in 1969 to Sandra Needham.
Some photos over the years - Click to enlarge

Her great County "partner in crime" was the late Jean Brown of Erskine and both were seen on many occasions, before and after county medals and matches, playing the fruit machines and having much laughter and fun.

The highlight of Mae's golfing career was winning the Evening Times Scottish Ladies' Foursomes in 1967 with Aileen Wilson (Haggs Castle) and having a couple of Holes in One in later years.

Mae then moved to Elie with her husband Harry (died in 2011)  and she played her golf at Elie Golf Club  until she was 86 when her balance became very poor.
She was very sad about this as golf was her life and she said then " The spirit is willing but the body is just not able'

In July 2018 Mae suffered a slight stroke and this further knocked her confidence and in October her daughter Lynda Smith (Douglas Park) and son Guy moved her back to Glasgow to a home nearby Lynda in Bearsden.

She would have been 91 on the 14th March 2019.

We send Lynda and Guy and all the family our sincere condolences.

The funeral is at Dalnotter Crematorium on Friday 15th March at 11:30am  -- Glasgow Herald Announcement

JANE TURNER WINS HER FIRST SUPERSOFT CHALLENGE TOUR EVENT

From ScottishGolf

Scotland’s Jane Turner claimed a four-shot victory in South Africa, backing up two rounds of 69 by going one better in her final round at the SuperSport Ladies Challenge in South Africa.

The Dalmahoy Hotel and Country Club player was the only competitor to finish the week under par as she went on to claim her first Sunshine Ladies Tour victory at the Wild Coast Sun Country Club.

Speaking after her maiden Sunshine Tour victory, Turner said:
“It feels amazing what I was able to do today, I can’t even begin to describe what this feels like. I have no control of what anyone else does, so I needed to keep the ball in play and hit greens in regulation and make my birdies. It’s a fabulous feeling to know you’re going home with a trophy – although I’m not sure how it’s going to fit on the plane!”

It was also a promising week for fellow Scots Gabrielle MacDonald (3rd) and Hannah McCook (T5) with both rookies finishing in the top five.

Turner’s win marks an excellent month for Scottish golfers in the Rainbow Nation with Euan Walker winning the African Amateur just two weeks ago.

Georgia Hall becomes R&A ambassador as part of £80m investment in women’s golf

By Martin Dempster

Georgia Hall, the Women’s British Open champion, is to play a leading role in helping to get more women and girls into golf after becoming an official ambassador for the R&A.

The 22-year-old has been signed up by the governing body on the back of the Women in Golf Charter, which was launched last year.

“There is no better-known body in golf than the R&A, so I was extremely honoured to have been invited to be an ambassador for the organisation,” said Hall.

“I am passionate about helping to grow the game, so it’s very natural for me to support the R&A’s great initiatives, particularly for women and children, over the coming years.

“The Women in Golf Charter is a great first step and I look forward to working with them on some exciting initiatives over the next few years”

By making her major breakthrough at Royal Lytham & St Annes last year, Hall became the first golfer in the history of the sport to win the Women’s British Open, the Women’s Amateur Championship and the Girls’ Amateur Championship.

“Georgia is an influential role model for our sport and we are honoured that she has agreed to become an ambassador for the R&A and work with us to promote our activities in women’s and girls’ golf,” said chief executive Martin Slumbers.

“She has shown that talent, hard work and determination can take you to the very pinnacle of our sport and she deserves enormous credit for her victory in the 2018 Women’s British Open.

“We believe that her achievements will inspire many women and girls into taking up golf and going on to enjoy playing as members of clubs with their families and friends.”

Douglas Park Golf Club Night at Nashville

Captain Denise Macnaughton is presented with flowers by Brenda Murray
Douglas Park Ladies held their opening social event of the year arranged by the new Captain Denise Macnaughton.
95 ladies attended this Night of Nashville theme with everyone having great fun - as you will see from the video below.

Click here to see some photos and also alternatively HERE ON FACEBOOK  - Thanks go to Ann Fisher for the additional photos at the end.

From Denise --  Lady Captain.

My thanks go all the ladies who took part in the 'Night at Nashville" evening on Friday night.

Ninety five ladies arrived, dressed up as cowgirls, and it was a delight to see how the ladies at Douglas Park threw themselves into the spirit of the evening.

The night began with a reception and welcome cocktail – “The Dolly Parton” - provided by our own ‘Queen of Cocktails’, Olive MacKay.
It was a fabulous way to start the evening. We had our own Dolly Parton in attendance AKA, Moni Ainslie, sporting not just a dolly wig, but false eye lashes to complete the look.

This was followed by a delicious meal, provided by Lisa and her team, and needless to say, everyone said it was superb. After dinner we got down to business with the hoedown.

Patricia & Baden Brown provided the entertainment – some line dancing and a rendition of old favourite songs, while the ladies did their own version of line dancing on the dance floor.

What a night! .

Thanks to all the wonderful Douglas Park ladies – a truly wonderful night to remember.
