HIGHLIGHTS THE SCOTTISH LADIES OPEN FROM GULLANE - DAY 3

Ariya Jutanugarn and Amy Yang battled tough conditions on Saturday at Gullane Golf Club to take a share of the lead headed into the final round of Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open.

HOWLING WIND AT GULLANE ON DAY 3 BLOWS A FEW OFF COURSE !!

A howling wind proved to be a stiff challenge for the leaders on day three of the Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open, but Ariya Jutanugarn and Amy Yang refused to be blown off course.
After two days of glorious sunshine at Gullane, the third day was played in very different conditions: around 10 degrees cooler and in a near gale.
Overnight leader Tiffany Joh, who had started at 13-under, made a birdie at the second, but struggled to a nine-over 80.
The pack will be chasing two of the most prolific winners in the field, who shot matching rounds of two-over 73 to share the lead on eight-under at 205

Kelsey MacDonald and Kylie Henry, the two Scots left standing, both shot level-par 71s to sit level-par and one-over respectively.

Ayrshire youngster Hazel MacGarvie (Troon Ladies)  achieved a creditable top 20 finish in the European women's amateur golf championship at the Penati Golf Resort, Slovakia today (Saturday).
She outshone Hannah McCook (Grantown on Spey) and Chloe Goadby (St Regulus Ladies) who both missed the third round cut on the final day when 36 holes were played.

Hazel, pictured, had scores of 75, 68, 72 and 72 for a one-under-par total of 287 which gave her a joint 16th place finish among the female amateur stars of Europe.

Curtis Cup player Olivia Mehaffey (Royal Co Down Ladies) finished joint seventh on six-under 282 with rounds of 70, 71, 71 and 70 - 10 shots behind the winner, Spain's Celia Barquin who set a new course record of 63 in her third roune.
Another Curtis Cup player, Shannon McWilliam (Aboyne) shared a disappointing 51st place with erratic rounds of 71,79, 70 and 77 for nine-over 297.

HAZEL STILL THE BEST SCOT, SHANNON INPROVES BUT HANNAH MISSES EUROPEAN CUT

By COLIN FARQUHARSON

Hazel MacGarvie (Troon Ladies) slipped  out of the leading 20 at the European women's amateur championship at Penati Resort, Slovakia with a third-round 72 for a 54-hole tally of 215 which gave her an overnight position of joint 21st going into the final round.
But Curtis Cup player Shannon McWilliam from Aboyne improved 28 places to joint 40th with a 70 for 220. Her earlier rounds were 71 and 79.
Spain's Celia Barquin shot a brilliant course-record round of nine-under-par 63 to take the lead on 13-under 203.
German based Scot Fiona Liddell made the cut on 219 (77,72,70)

Hannah McCook (Grantown on Spey) was among those who failed to qualify for the final 18 holes. To beat the cut, a player had to have scored 222 or better. McCook totalled 233 (81-79-73.)

KELSEY AND KYLIE ARE THE ONLY 2 SCOTS TO MAKE THE CUT AT GULLANE

There may be an all-star leader board at the Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open, but that hasn’t stopped American Tiffany Joh from leading at the halfway stage at Gullane.

The world No.177 followed her opening 62 with a four-under 67 in near perfect conditions to lead by three on 13-under, ahead of Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn and Amy Yang from South Korea.

Only two Scots survived the halfway cut in the Ladies Scottish Open at Gullane - Kelsey Macdonald on 142 (67-75) in joint 52nd position, and Kylie Henry on the limit mark of 143 (73-70) and in joint 67th position. Those who did not make the cut include Catriona Matthew who slumped from 69 in the first to 79 in the second for 148 ... Carly Booth, one shot too many with a pair of 72s, Gemma Dryburgh 147 (74-73), Vikki Laing 149 (75-74) and Michele Thomson 153 (75-78).

GILLIAN KYLE HAS HER BEST ROUND OVER EAST RENFREWSHIRE GOLF COURSE

Scottish Senior Internationalist Gillian Kyle played in her home club competition at East Renfrewshire Golf Club last week and scored 43 stableford points.  She holed out every hole, it converted to gross 67 which they  think it will  be the lowest score recorded by a lady at the club --  Unfortunately preferred lies were in play on 2 holes and since it was a stableford it is  not a course record as such according to the rules. However  hopefully her card will go up on clubhouse wall.

- Many congratulations Gillian who now has reduced her handicap  to 2

SHANNON MCWILLIAM LEADS SCOTS IN SLOVAKIA

Shannon McWilliam (Aboyne) is the leading Scottish player at the end of the first round of the European women's individual amateur stroke play championship at Penati Golf Resort, Slovakia.

The Curtis Cup player shot a one-under-par round of 71 for a share of 16th place,  seven strokes behind the leader by two, Germany's Esther Henseleit, overnight.

There will be a cut to the leading 69 and ties after the second round.
