D&A JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP AND HANDICAP WINNERS -- SOME BELATED NEWS

D&A Junior championship was played at Kirkintilloch golf club on 26th August with the title being won by won by Lorna McClymont and handicap championship was won by Sophie Murphy.

President Enid Young presented the Trophies.

D&A Junior Convenor Jenny Gough also was a winner by winning the Clydebank and District Handicap Championship and Cathie Skinner won the Ladies Club Championship

ELAINE RATCLIFFE APPOINTED CAPTAIN OF THE GB and IRELAND CURTIS CUP TEAM

Elaine Ratcliffe has been appointed as the new captain of the Great Britain and Ireland Curtis Cup team for the 2020 match and will also lead the teams in the Vagliano Trophy and the Astor Trophy in 2019...

Ratcliffe, who hails from Sandbach in Cheshire, enjoyed a distinguished amateur career as a player and won the Finnish Amateur Championship in 1997 and the English Amateur Championship the following year. She was a member of the GB and I team which defeated the United States 11½- 6½ in the 1996 Curtis Cup at Killarney and played for GB and I in the 1997 Vagliano Trophy match against the Continent of Europe, who won 12½-11½ at Royal Aberdeen. 

Ratcliffe also represented GB&I as a player in the Espirito Santo Trophy and England in the European Amateur Team Championships. 

After turning professional, she was named Rookie of the Year by the Ladies’ European Tour in 1999 but was reinstated as an amateur in 2008.

Hannah Darling met Karen Marshall met yesterday to decide who would be the Midlothian Champion of Champions for 2018.  Team mates in the County squad these two are used to combining  more than competing.

LORRAINE CAMPBELL WINS CARDROSS LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP

Cardross Ladies had their championships today. 

The Silver Championship and club championship match was between Lorraine Campbell and Lori Macdonald. It was a good, very competitive game with the match going to the last putt on the 18th green. Lorraine coming out the winner.

The Bronze Championship was won by Rae Strang, who beat Diana Macintosh 3/2. Again this was a fiercely contested match with Rae emerging as victor - winning the championship for the fourth year in a row.

USA WIN THE ESPIRITO SANTA TROPHY - WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS

USA TEAM
The United States of America produced a final day flourish to win the World Amateur Championship by 10 shots and take home the Espirito Santo Trophy for the first time since 1998.
Ireland entered the closing round with an outside chance of taking a medal but they failed to gain ground and an even par return for the day left them finishing in a tie for 11th place. Japan, second on 19 under, and Republic of Korea, one shot further back in third, filled the medal positions.
