Ladybank’s Lorna Bennett, a Scotland women’s international team player from 1987 to 1991, won the Scottish senior women’s amateur match-play golf championship for the first time at Glenbervie Golf Club today.
It is not her first over-50s national title. She won the Scottish veteran women’s match-play championship at Blairgowrie in 2004.
Lorna beat Margaret Tough (Falkirk) by 2 and 1 in an entertaining final.
Two down after six holes, Margaret won the seventh, eighth and ninth to be one up at the turn.
Then Lorna regained the initiative and the lead by winning the 10th and 11th. Then followed five closely-fought halved holes. Lorna then clinched victory by winning the 17th.
The second-flight match-play for early-round losers ended in a Kathleen Sutherland v Fiona Hunter final, which ended in a 2 and 1 win for Fiona Hunter.

Semi-finals – Margaret Tough bt Ruth Brown 5 and 4, Lorna Bennett bt May Hughes 4 and 3.
Final – Bennett bt Tough 2 and 1.

After the match play stages the Team was announced for Senior Ladies' Home International Matches and Helen Faulds (Douglas Park) was selected as a member of the team .
