Scotland's three qualifiers for the match-play stages of the British girls open amateur golf championship at Fairhaven Golf Club, Lytham St Annes were all beaten in the first round today (Wednesday).
Tara Mactaggart (Minto) was seven down at the turn on her way to an 8 and 6 defeat by the top seed, Bethan Popel (Long Ashton) - who was beaten at the 19th by an Italian in the second round.
Scottish U18 girls champion Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) had a much closer match. She was all square at the turn against Clara Aveling (Belgium) before losing by 2 and 1.
Monifieth's Heather Munro, the 63rd qualifier, looked to be on her way to the major upset of the first round when she was four up at the turn on the No 2 seed, Rochelle Morris (Woodsome Hall).
But Morris found her game on the inward half to square the match at the 14th and take the lead at thr 15th, for the first time since the first hole.
"Heather played really well and it was a much tougher game than I expected. I had to really get the head down after the turn and start winning holes," said Morris who won by 2 and 1.
