Maureen Madill was up in Gullane in East Lothian for a few days and had met up with my old pal and sparring partner from Tour days, Gillian Stewart.

They had a game arranged with well-known, local golfing celebrity and current Gullane Ladies’ champion, Sue Penman and 1975 Scottish Ladies Champion Lesley Hope

Katy Alexander wins the Junior Tour Event at Bruntsfield

Blairgowrie's Katy Alexander won the Junior Tour girls' event at Bruntsfield Links. Over a par 71 course (CSS 70).

She had rounds of 77 and 78 for a total of 155.

She won by two strokes from Megan Docherty (Bishopbriggs) 76-81

Third on 158 was Grace Crawford (Gullane) with scores of 78 and 80.

Lorna McClymont wins the Mackie Bowl and has a new course record.

Lorna McClymont - Mackie Bowl 2019

Lorna McClymont (Milngavie) had a glorious bag of two eagles, eleven birdies and only one bogey (the 36th hole) in compiling rounds of 65 and 69 for a brilliant 14-under-par total of 134 in winning the Mackie Bowl women's open 36-hole tournament at Gullane by five strokes.

Lorna had seven birdies in her first round and one eagle to have a new Course record of 65.

She won the competition by five strokes from a previous winner, Tara MacTaggart (Minto) (71-68 for 139). Tara's second round was 6 under Par - the best of her career. Penny Brown (Worthing) who has been selected for the Home Internationals was 3rd and (Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm) 4th

THE MACKIE BOWL AT GULLANE GOLF CLUB -- ENTRY FORM

The Mackie Bowl returns to the calendar this year after a one year absence on Sunday 28^thJuly at Gullane Golf Club. 

Entries are open however are very low so far. Entries close on the 15^thJuly however to help Gullane Ladies with plans for the event it would be helpful if they had a better idea of the number of likely entries.

The event counts for the Scottish Golf Women and Girls Order of Merits and involves 36 holes on the Gullane Number 1 course.

CARMEN AND GRACE IN TOP 10 AFTER ROUND 2 OF U16 GIRLS AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

England’s Maggie Whitehead produced the best round of her young life to move into contention at the Girls U16 Amateur Championship at Fulford, with overnight leader Francesca Fiorellini still ahead.

Whitehead, aged only 12-years-old, came into the championship to simply further her experiences, but surged through the field into second place after a superb two-under-par 73 on day two.

The chasing pack includes Scotland’s Grace Crawford (Gullane) --  on one-over-par, another 12-year-old thriving this week. The Gullane player holed a 25 feet putt on the 18th for par and said, “I played well and I was playing with two of my friends in Maggie and Libby (Bell), which was really nice. I’ve moved up the leaderboard further than I thought, so it’s all to play for tomorrow.” -- Watch Video below to see Grace

CARMEN GRIFFITHS AND GRACE CRAWFORD ARE REPRESENTING SCOTLAND AT FULFORD

A trio of Italian players impressed on the opening day of the R&A Girls U16 Amateur Championship, with Francesca Fiorellini securing the slender early lead at Fulford.

The 13-year-old is competing alongside compatriots Charlotte Cattaneo and Matilde Innocenti Angelini as part of a 90-strong international field at the Yorkshire venue

The only 2 Scots in the field Carmen Griffiths (Aboyne) and Grace Crawford (Gullane) who both finished well up the field on 2 over par
