The Curtis sisters donated the trophy for the competition. The Curtis sisters had competed in the 1905 British Ladies Amateur at Royal Cromer Golf Club, where an informal match had occurred between teams of American and British golfers, and they wanted to promote the international friendships in the world of women's golf. It is with great sadness I have to announce that West Vets'  Sally Coster died yesterday at home on Monday 9th February 2016.

Sally played off a handicap of 4 in her early golfing years and was selected to play for the Scottish Vets Team at that time

A Past Captain of D&A and Past President of SVLGA had been a member of many clubs --St Andrews (St Rule), Crail, Hilton Park, Buchanan Castle  and Troon Ladies

Sally was President of the Scottish Vets Team when West Vets' Past Captain Helen Faulds was Captain of the Scottish Vets Team

Helen says -

"She was a huge help to me in many ways" .
"She was extremely knowledgeable about golfing matters, very observant at watching players and able to see faults in their swing. (I know that because she did it with me  !!)
"The players in the team were very happy to take her advice which was always given in a quiet measured manner. This ability was put to good use as she was asked to become a selector for the Scottish Teams which she really enjoyed."
"Sally had a very dry sense of humour and was extremely popular with our players, the Irish and the English players and the Presidents of all other divisions."

Sally will be most certainly missed by all.

The funeral will take place  at Maryhill CrematoriumG23 5AAGlasgow at 3pm, Thursday 18th February.

Speech given by Greenlees Secretary Anne Dunn

Lady Captain, Pat, Guests, Ladies what a wonderful year we have had in this Celebration Year. I personally find it hard to believe that 85 years ago somebody had the vision to think of starting, what has now become known as the Greenlees League and that it has been played for 75years.
It is still achieving its aim which is to prepare Ladies for playing for their country.

Before we go on to presenting the trophies to the League winners I would like to reiterate my sincere thanks to Cathcart Castle for running  such a successful Celebration Triam. Everybody who played in it seemed to enjoy themselves and even those who were assisting had a wonderful day. Special thanks has to go to Jean Smith and her husband who produced the leaflet about Ysobel Greenlees, and was given to every club. What a triumph of organisation for the entire day.

I would like to ask Cathcart Castle Lady Captain Pat Lavelle to present the prizes to those who one won on the day:
First were Gill Hendry, Douglas Park, Sharon Edgar, Lenzie and Linda McDougall, Greenock with 59 (B-I-H)
Second were Aileen Donaldson, West Kilbride, Margaret Gray, Old Ranfurly and Alice Brown Bothwell Castle
Third were Jill Foggo, Milngavie, Eleanor Inglis Largs and Linda Hay Eastwood with 61 (B-I-H)

On to the Presentation of Trophies. We have a new name going on the Division 1 trophy – Kilmarnock Barassie. This is the first time they have won this division and I am sure they will do their very best to retain it.
We also have a new name going on to the Division 2 trophy – Cathcart Castle. What a wonderful achievement after just coming up to Division 2 last year,
Division 3 was won by Haggs Castle who are no strangers to winning Greenlees Trophies.- CLICK HERE FOR FULL RESULTS
Unfortunately the Runners Up Trophy was missing from the presentations to which Milngavie should have been presented with.

Thank you Pat for graciously presenting all the prizes.
In conclusion I would like to thank Cathcart Castle Ladies for their wonderful hospitality both at the Triam and today. What a busy year they have had while still managing to play great golf. Thanks also to the kitchen staff and to the greens staff for their part in making these two days memorable.

May I wish you all a safe journey home, a great golfing season next year and look foward to seeing some of you at the Fixture Meeting which will be held here on Tuesday, 17th November

AYRSHIRE LOSE TO ANGUS COUNTY

Defending champions Angus made a strong start to the defence of their Scottish County Finals crown at Stranraer Golf Club, defeating Ayrshire 8-1. After taking the morning foursomes 3 nil they only needed to win two of the six singles to guarantee victory with hometown girl, Gillian Paton, leading Angus out against the talented youngster Hazel MacGarvie. Paton rushed to a 4 hole lead before Hazel pegged her back with the local girl eventually coming through 1up. The rest of the Angus team proved just too strong for Ayrshire, the only point coming from Linzi Allan who defeated Jemma Chalmers 1up.

Midlothian, who are due to face Angus on the Sunday, also made a strong start to the finals running out 7-2 winners over Dumfriesshire. Despite having won the Jamboree at Stranraer in July, Dumfriesshire could not make that advantage count. Midlothian took the morning foursomes by two games to one and pressed home their advantage with Scottish International Kate McIntosh winning 8&7 to seize the initative from Dumfriesshire. Diane Macdonald, vice-captain of Dumfriesshire scored a convincing 4&2 victory over former Scottish Champion Gabrielle MacDonald to provide some comfort to the Dumfriesshire side.
