This year's event will take place on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 May over the New and Old Courses, St Andrews. Entries will be limited to 60 and the handicap limit is 4.4.
For the first time this year you will be able to enter online via the St Andrews Links website, alternatively you may download and post or email your entry.
Entry forms and tournament conditions will be available online from Monday 23 February, 2009 and please note we will not request any entry fee until after the closing date when you will be notified as to whether or not you have been successful in gaining a place in the tournament.

SLGA's New Matchplay Foursomes Event

Kirkwood Golf New club match-play foursomes event
added to SLGA calendar

The Scottish foursomes tournament has not been well supported over the last few years, and was cancelled last summer due to lack of entries.
Dr Lynne Terry (Cruden Bay), the SLGA treasurer, came up with a suggestion for an inter-club match-play foursomes handicap tournament which could be run over the summer with semi-finals and final on the same day as the Scottish stroke-play foursomes tournament (August 30 at Forfar Golf Club) with scratch and handicap prizes.
Each club can enter a team of two or three players to represent it during the season. The total combined handicaps of the team must not exceed 60. Any two of the team can represent the club in each round.
Each match will be played on the basis of full difference of half the combined handicaps (on the day) of the two players representing the club.
The SLGA will make the draw for each round. The rounds will be based on geographical locations of the clubs to minimise travel as far as possible.
The 18-hole stroke-play tournament on the finals day will prioritise the 16 lowest combined handicaps, along with additional entries from the clubs involved in the semi-finals and the clubs that entered the match play.
If the event is not fully subscribed then clubs who did not enter the match play can enter, and if it is over-subscribed then higher handicap teams will be eliminated first.
Entry forms went out to the clubs with last week's mailing from the SLGA.

Clare Queen has a top 10 finish in the Australian Open

England’s Laura Davies won her second Australian Open after a dramatic final day at Metropolitan Golf Club in Melbourne.
Davies, who last won the title in 2004 at Concorde Golf Club, finished with a five-under-par 68, which was the best round of the day. She closed on a four-round total of seven-under-par, one stroke ahead of Spain’s Tania Elosegui.
Congratulations to Clare Queen (The Carrick Loch Lomond) who finished in 8th position on 2 under par.

Fife County Celebrate their Centenary Celebrations with a lunch in Kirkcaldy

Fife County Ladies Golf Association started its Centenary celebrations with a lunch at the Dean Park Hotel, Kirkcaldy on Sunday 1st Feb 2009. The event was attended by 134 past & present members of FCLGA, the Provost of Fife and representatives from SLGA, Midlothian, East Lothian and Stirling & Clackmannanshire.

Kylie finishes 13th in the Portugal Open Amateur

Six bogeys in the last round killed Kylie Walker's hopes of at least matching last year's seventh place finish in the Portuguese women's open amateur golf championship. The Buchanan Castle player signed off the rain-abbreviated tournament at Quinta do Peru Golf Club, near Lisbon - the second day's play was washed out - with a 76 after earlier rounds of 76 and 77.
Her 13-over-par total for the 54-hole tournament put her in 13th place behind French winner Rosanna Crepiat who had scores of 74, 72 and 71 for one-over-par 217.
Kylie did birdie the fourth and short 17th on the last day but bogeyed the first, third, sixth, eighth, 13th and 14th.
In a prestigious overseas championship, once won by the late Marjory (Fowler) Ferguson, Kylie was the only Scot in the field of 70, a disappointing representation given that the GB&I selectors said that any players making a show in the early-season tournaments would have a chance of breaking into the Vagliano Trophy squad which has been depleted by players such as Scottish champion Michele Thomson (McDonald Ellon), Krystle Caithness (St Regulus) and their 2008 Curtis Cup team-mates, Florentyna Parker (Royal Birkdale), Elizabeth Bennett (Brokenhurst Manor), Breanne Loucks (Wrexham) as well as 2006 Curtis Cup player Tara Delaney (Carlow), turning professinal.
Wales and Ireland entered five players apiece and the Welsh did provide the leading non-Continental player, Rhian Wyn Thomas from Vale of Glamorgan, joint 10th overall on 228. Also on the 228 mark was Mandy Goyos, whose mother is Lancashire-born and her father Spanish.

Kylie ninth as Portuguese championship is cut to 3 rounds

The 79th Portuguese women's open amateur championship has been reduced from four rounds to 54 holes following the loss of Friday's play because of flooding at the Quinta do Peru course near Lisbon.
Leading British or Irish player after Saturday's second round is Rhian Wyn Thomas (Vale of Glamorgan) whose last competitive event was the Ladies European Tour Qualifying School at La Manga.
Kylie Walker (Buchanan Castle), the only Scot in the field dropped down to a share of ninth place with scores of 76 and 77.

PLAY WASHED OUT IN PORTUGAL

Torrential rain washed out the second day's play in the Portuguese women's open amateur golf championship at Quinta do Peru Golf Club, near Lisbon. Kylie Walker (Buchanan Castle), the only Scottish player in the field of 70, was lying seventh with a score of 76 at the end of the first round.

Kylie joint seventh after the 1st round in Portugal

Scotland's only entry, D&A's Kylie Walker from Buchanan Castle ended the first day of the Portuguese women's open amateur golf championship in a respectable joint seventh place in a field of 70 players at Quinta do Peru Golf Club near Lisbon.
Kylie, who finished seventh in the event last year, had a round of four-over-par 76 -five shots behind leader Lara Katzy (Germany).
The long-hitting Scot had no birdies but strayed over par only three times with bogeys at the long ninth and short 16th and a double bogey 6 at the 18th.

Kylie Walker only Scot in field for Portuguese championship

Kylie Walker (Buchanan Castle), the only Scot in the field of 73 players, has the second lowest handicap in the 79th Portuguese international women's amateur golf championship which tees off over the Quinta do Peru course, near Lisbon tomorrow.
Kylie winner of the St Rule Trophy in 2008 when she also won the SLGA Order of Merit and lost to fellow-Scot Roseanne Niven in a play-off for the British women's amateur stroke-play title, has remained an amateur after failing to gain pass marks at the recent Ladies European Tour Qualifying School at La Manga, Spain.
The 22-year-old Dunbartonshire & Argyll champion, coached by Bob Collinson, has a handicap of +3.2, bettered only by France's Marion Ricordeau with +4in the Portuguese field

Midlothian's Centenary Lunch goes off with a bang

Midlothian County held their Centenary lunch yesterday in Edinburgh and the toast to the Game of Golf was given by Helen Faulds (Douglas Park) West Vets Captain and a Past Captain and Past President of Dunbartonshire and Argyll County LGA. Her humourous and witty speech was interrupted by a fire alarm, which only added to the occasion as doors to George Street were opened and 177 lightly dressed people trooped out onto the street on a bitterly cold Edinburgh afternoon. Spirits were high and everyone remained cheerful... it gave some another chance to have a chin-wag with long-lost friends. After about 15 minutes the all-clear was given and the company resumed their seats... Helen carried on as if nothing had happened and, at its conclusion, her scintillating speech received a standing ovation.

LGU announces new President, Chairman and Vice Presidents at 2009 AGM

Maureen Lockett –President

Mrs. Lockett will be the 23rd President since the position was instigated in 1908 and will commence her three years in office in succession to Mrs. Joan Neville.

Having served as Chairman of the Ladies’ Golf Union in 2002, Maureen will bring a wealth of golf knowledge and experience to the role of President. A keen golfer since taking up the game as a junior at Thonock Golf Club, now The Gainsborough Golf Club, she played to a high standard, representing Yorkshire in the early seventies and achieving a handicap of 2.

Always one to put something back into the game she loves, Maureen became involved in golf administration in the late seventies and served as Club Captain and Centenary Lady President at Hallamshire Golf Club in Sheffield, where she is now an Honorary Member, and as Yorkshire County Captain. More recently, she served as President of the Yorkshire Ladies’ County Golf Association.

Maureen’s skills as an administrator soon got her noticed at national level, and she was Chairman of the English Ladies’ Golf Association in 1995, before taking on the role of English Councillor on the Ladies’ Golf Union between 1999 and 2002. One of her main interests is junior golf, and, as an original member of the English Junior Golf Partnership, she remains committed to encouraging junior participation in the sport.


Husband Brian, grown up children Julia and Christopher, grandsons Alan, Tony and Marcus, and her sprightly 95 year old mother are delighted at Maureen’s nomination as President of the Ladies’ Golf Union and offer their full support in her term of office.

Maureen says “I still find it hard to believe that I have been invited to take on this prestigious position but I will do my best to uphold the long traditions of the LGU.


These are exciting and challenging times for ladies’ golf but I firmly believe that the Ladies’ Golf Union has an important role to play. The changing needs of our younger golfers must be catered for while we should also endeavour to maintain the legacies of the past upon which our modern game is based.

I look forward to supporting the ongoing modernisation initiatives and also to meeting many of you in the coming months and years”.


Brigid McCaw –Chairman

Brigid is a member and past Captain of Royal County Down Ladies’ Golf Club and has been involved in golf administration for a number of years at both club and National level. As a Trustee and Honorary Secretary of the club she has experience in various aspects of club administration while in a playing capacity she has represented the club on a number of occasions in District Inter-Club Teams.

A stint as the club’s Junior Convenor saw her bring home the Smurfit title on 3 occasions, an association with Junior Golf which she continued through District and National Level. Brigid has served as a junior selector at both District and National Levels while also captaining various successful girls’ national teams over the years.

Brigid has passed the R&A referee’s examination on two occasions and has officiated at many major championships and international tournaments including the Curtis Cup, the Vagliano Trophy and the Ricoh Women’s British Open.

Brigid served full terms on the executive committees of both District and ILGU Councils before joining the Executive of the LGU in 2006 where she has served on the LGU Rules and Regulations Committee for the last three years.

Brigid worked for many years as a production assistant for Ulster Television but since she retired has been kept fully occupied in golf administration. In anticipation of her year in office she said:

“I feel honoured to be elected Chairman of the Ladies Golf Union. I know that a great deal of work lies in the year ahead but I look forward to working closely with Council and our Management Team on progressing the implementation of the Business Plan and most importantly to be amongst the Players and Officials at our Championships.”

Brigid lives in Newcastle, Northern Ireland with her husband Harry, a past Captain of both the Royal & Ancient and Royal County Down Golf Club. They have three children, Gordon, Anita and Kenneth and five grandchildren.

Catherine Booth (Ireland), Nancy Chisholm (Scotland), Joan Neville (Wales) and Sue Johnson (England) – Vice Presidents

The Executive Council has also invited four former office bearers to become Honorary Vice Presidents of the Ladies’ Golf Union in recognition of the work they have done for ladies’ golf and their continued loyalty to, and support of, the LGU

Outgoing President Joan Neville (Wales) will remain actively involved in supporting the LGU on her appointment as a Vice President. Joan, LGU President from 2007-09, has been unstinting in her work for the LGU. Her vast knowledge of golf, hard work and great sense of humour with which she has fulfilled her role has been greatly appreciated by players and officials alike. Joan says “the best years of my life have been spent with the LGU and the invitation to become a Vice President is the pinnacle of my association. I can assure you that I will continue to support this wonderful organisation and look forward to following the changes due to come in the next few years”.

Catherine Booth (Ireland), President of the LGU from 2004-2007, first became involved in golf administration in the late 1970s and served on both the ILGU Central Council and the LGU Executive Council. She was Chairman of the Curtis Cup Committee played in Killarney in 1996, when Great Britain & Ireland last won the matches. Catherine is “delighted to be nominated as a Vice President of the LGU at an exciting time in women’s golf, when the LGU and Home Countries are addressing issues for the long term good of the game”.


After contributing to the game of golf in many capacities at club, county and national level, Nancy Chisholm (Scotland) served as LGU Chairman in 1997 and SLGA President from 2003-2007. A lifelong member of Prestwick St Nicholas Golf Club, Nancy continues to play golf to an enviable standard, and cites her favourite club and deadliest weapon as “Father’s antique hickory jigger!” Nancy is “thrilled to be invited to become an Honorary Vice President of LGU, which I hold in high esteem”.


The fourth new Vice President is Sue Johnson (England). A well known character in Yorkshire golfing circles, Sue was LGU Chairman in 1994 and President from 2001-04. Sue responded with delight to her invitation to become a vice President and stated “I am mindful of the privilege bestowed on me and pleased to be given the opportunity to continue to support the LGU. Over the years of my involvement in ladies’ golf, I have made many friends and had such happy times. I feel very fortunate to be awarded this honour.”


The LGU is in the process of implementing its Business Plan which was approved at last year’s AGM, and the Executive Council is pleased to confirm that Shona Malcolm will continue in the post of Chief Executive Officer to drive the ongoing modernisation initiatives.

When you click on the link and are on the google channel then click on more from user for them to come up. Some are too long , some will be of no interest but some may be of interest to you. Also some of the newer utube videos ,you can click on watch in better quality , then the video is clearer. Also depends on your broadband connection --- give time to load. Shona Malcolm is the new SLGA Chairman and Fiona Cowan is the New West of Scotland SLGA Representative

West of Scotland Golfers were in the fore front of the SLGA appointments when the SLGA AGM was held yesterday at Dewars Centre in Perth yesterday morning

Prestwick St Nicholas' Shona Malcolm (pictured at the top) was elected the new Chairman and Past Captain of D&A Fiona Cowan (pictured above) was elected as the West Division Representative on the Board of Directors to replace Pamela MacKenzie(Renfrewshire)whose term of office has now expired.

Ayrshire's Isabel Crawford (Troon Ladies) was appointed as the Scottish Representative on the International Selection Committee of the LGU and D&A's Jenny McGahan (Douglas Park) was appointed as a Scottish Representative on the Executive Council of the LGU following the resignation of Shona Malcolm

Finally Past President of the SLGA Nancy Chisholm (Prestwick St Nicholas) was elected as Honarary Vice President of the SLGA

The Other West of Scotland Representatives are Beth Paterson (Eastwood Golf Club) who was appointed as Chairman of the Performance Committee and Sheila Pickles (Troon Ladies) was elected to chair the development panel of the performance committee.

Hacienda del Alamo Women's Winter Festival

The entry deadline for the six events that make up the Hacienda del Alamo Women's Winter Festival has been extended to January 22nd 2009
The events, open to lady professionals and amateurs up to a maximum handicap of 20, are:
February 12-13: Murcia Ladies Open (36 holes) & Murcia Under-16 Girls' Open (36 holes).
February 14: St Valentine's Day pro-am (18 holes).
February 15: Costa Calida Pairs (18 holes).
February 16-17: Hacienda del Alamo Ladies Open (36 holes) & Hacienda del Alamo Under-16 Girls' Open (36 holes).

Pamela Feggans earns full playing rights on the European Tour

Lynn Kenny, Krystle Caithness, Vicki Laing and Ayrshire's Pamela Feggans are all celebrating tonight that they can play on every event on the LET if they wish.
Lynn Kenny finished third behind Sweden's Anna Nordqvist (279)
The Curtis Cup player Krystle Caithness finished joint seventh on 289 with a 73 for three-under-par 289
Vikki Laing from Musselburgh, signed off with a 71, the best score by a Scot on the last day, for one-over-par 293.
Pamela Feggans from Patna, Ayrshire had a final round of 76 for three-over 295.
Curtis Cup player and Scottish women's amateur champion Michele Thomson from Ellon bogeyed the very last hole for a 78 and unfortunately missed out by one shot from finishing among the top 30 who earned full playing rights on the 2009 Ladies European Tour at the Final Qualifying School at La Manga Golf Resort, Murcia in south-east Spain.
Michele, 20, finished on seven-over-par 299 over the par-73 South Course, her closing round being her worst of the tournament in which she had played the first three days very steadily. She will get to play in some LET events on the 2009 schedule.

Pamela Feggans makes the Ladies European Tour

A total of 55 players, including 15 amateurs, have earned the chance to play on the Ladies European Tour this year after surviving the 54-hole cut at Final Qualifying School at Murcia, Spain today.
They include FIVE Scots - Lynn Kenny, Krystle Caithness, Pamela Feggans, Michele Thomson and Vikki Laing. Caithness and Thomson, Curtis Cup team-mates at St Andrews last May, have been playing as amateurs but they will be turning professionals now!
All 55 players who made the cut mark of 226, seven-over-par, have secured playing rights for the 2009 season and will progress to the last day.
At the end of Thursday's final round the top 30 players will achieve a higher ranking, which will guarantee their entry into most events.

Sadly two Scots did not make it - Jenna Wilson (Strathaven) and Kylie Walker (Buchanan Castle). Kylie is still an amateur but Jenna played her rookie pro year on the LET last year.
