"It gives me great pleasure to be able to welcome you to East Renfrewshire  today for the annual Greenlees Lunch and Presentation of Prizes.

It is lovely to see so many familiar faces from matches or from the 80th Anniversary celebration which we hosted just a couple of months ago.

Today’s weather is certainly better for a lunch than playing golf.

East Ren will be celebrating our centenary next year and you will have noticed that preparations are well underway to freshen up the clubhouse. Apologies if you can detect the aroma of fresh paint, although on the upside it probably means you don’t have COVID!

Congratulation to the winning teams and I hope that everyone enjoys their lunch and catching up with friends old and new."

She then introduced Carol Fell and said "Carol - well known to us all who keeps her website up to date which includes the  Greenlees Results which are available for all to see."

Next introduction was that of  the hard working East Renfrewshire's Greenlees Secretary Val Crawford who has had 2 lunches to organise for the Greenlees Trophy this year with the other one being the very successful Anniversary TRI AM ---> CLICK HERE TO READ MORE IN THE WOMEN AND GOLF MAGAZINE --

Her present Handicap is 15 and she managed to halve her final Greenlees match -- a  fantastic finish to a long and wonderful time supporting her club team. -- True dedication and loyalty.

Vivien Howe has her 1st Hole in One at Ranfurly Castle

Vivien Howe

Much excitement today at the 7th hole at Ranfurly Castle when Vivien said (very casually) after hitting a nice 7 wood shot onto the green “I think that’s a Hole-In-One”

She had heard it dropping although the rest of her playing partners had not been paying attention !!

Sure enough, the ball was in the hole.

Well done Vivien and congratulations on your 1st Hole-In-One !

Also that day the Douglas Park Golf Club held their finals day with D&A county team member Fiona Rattray putting on a display of great golf to beat Renfrewshire's Shirley Back  -- (Poor Shirley got stung at the side of her eye at the 3rd green by a wasp but I believe all is ok now.)

Helen and June
The Douglas Park Ladies Senior Championship (over 70's)  was a very close encounter between Past RLCGA County Captain June Lockhart and  Helen Robertson. This was a very friendly and close battle with Helen managing to win on the 18th

No spectators were allowed to watch these matches so no more photos as I was a caddy in the Seniors Match !! -- However here is a short video at the end with Ladies Vice Captain Paula Galloway presenting the Seniors Trophy at the end.

Carol and Alyson reach the finals of the Renfrewshire Winter Foursomes

Click to Enlarge to read results

Home players  Carol McNally and Alyson McGinnigle (Williamwood) played the Whitecraigs pairing of Lorna Boyd and Linda Hay in the RLCGA Winter Foursomes Semi Final a couple of weeks ago.

For a January day the weather and course were extremely favourable.

The home team took an early lead over the first several holes but with a magnificent Golden Ferret by Lorna the game sat at Williamwood 3 up playing 6th which was halved in birdies.

After halving 7th; Whitecraigs' ladies won 8th hole and Williamwood 9th.
The toughest hole on the course was halved. Williamwood won par 3 11th followed by Whitecraigs winning the tricky 12th.

After Williamwood winning 13th and the long 14th being halved this meant home duo dormie 4. Good drive by Alyson set up par and a win on 15th green.

A really friendly game in great County spirit.

Carol and Alyson now meet the winners of the other semi final between Alison Murray and Lesley Robertson (Ranfurly Castle) and Morag Key (Ralston) and Anita McMillan (Erskine)

Jan Macnab wins the Renfrewshire Ladies County Rosebowl Final

June Lockhart (Captain), Jan Macnab (Rosebowl Winner)
Linda McDougall (Runner Up)

2019 RLCGA COUNTY ROSEBOWL FINAL
The final of the 2019 RLCGA County Rosebowl was played today  (Monday 16th September 2019) at Gleddoch GC

Jan Macnab (Ranfurly Castle) and Linda McDougall (Greenock) played some wonderful golf despite the wind being a major factor at times.

Jan quickly went ahead after Linda found trouble at the first, but the next 4 holes were halved.  However Jan took 3 of the last 4 holes in the outward nine to be 3 up.

Then Linda hit a superb burst of 3 birdies (including one at the 452 yard 11th!)  but Jan continued to play steady golf to finish with a birdie of her own at the 17th, to record a 3 &1 victory.

Despite the course playing long, both ladies should feel proud of their performances – Linda in particular for her putting, and Jan with her long iron approach shots.

Thanks go to Gleddoch GC for the use of their course, which overall has held up pretty well despite the recent weather.

Jan  said after the match --- "I am absolutely delighted to win the trophy again for Ranfurly Castle - looking back at the trophy there have been 6 Ranfurly winners in the last 8 years - starting in 2012 with Iona Stephen (now a big-time Sky Sports presenter hobnobbing with the Solheim Cup girls but back then a Ranfurly Castle mere mortal!), then Denise Cowan won three years in a row (wow)  and last year Anne Judge won at Cathcart Castle. Whose turn could it be next year??"
