Slovenia’s Pia Babnik led from start to finish at the 2019 Helen Holm Scottish Women’s Open Championship as a bogey-free round of 66 helped the youngster claim a seven-shot victory over France’s Charlotte Bunel.
With a three-shot lead going into Sunday’s final round, Babnik continued to play outstanding golf on the links at Royal Troon Old Course, picking up four shots in as many holes on the front nine in Ayrshire.
Scotland’s Shannon McWilliam and Chloe Goadby were winners of the annual team event, taking home the Ladies’ Club Silver Salver by beating England by 15 shots
Shannon also finished as the top Scot as this year’s event on six-under-par.
Speaking to Scottish Golf, Shannon said: “It was another really good result for me today, I have finished in the top five at the Helen Holm quite a few times now and to win the team event with Chloe was really nice as well.
It’s been a great week and one I will remember after making my fourth hole-in-one of my career at Royal Troon Portland on Friday.”

HELEN HOLM - DAY 2 - SHANNON MCWILLIAM IS THE LEADING SCOT
Slovenia’s Pia Babnik continued her good form on Day 2 at the 2019 Helen Holm Scottish Women’s Open with a three-under-par round of 69 at Royal Troon on Saturday.
Babnik, who is currently seeking a spot in Europe’s PING Junior Solheim Cup Team, remained consistent to extend her lead over the 120-strong field to three.
Sitting five shots behind Babnik, Shannon McWilliam is the top Scot after 36 holes. She had 4 birdies in her inward half of 33.
Speaking to Scottish Golf following a bogey-free back nine, which also included four birdies, McWilliam was pleased with how she played, saying: “I played pretty solid on the back nine today, I had eagle putts on 11 and 12 that didn’t drop but overall I am quite happy with the way I finished my round.”
McWilliam is one of five Scots inside the top 10 and with 18 holes left to play, the youngster from Aboyne is looking forward to playing in one of the final groups out tomorrow: “I am looking forward to playing Royal Troon Old Course tomorrow, all I can do is go out there and give it my best shot. It will be an exciting day.”
Tomorrow’s final group will include Slovenia’s Pia Babnik, Finland’s Emilia Tukiainen and France’s Charlotte Bunel. For a full draw sheet and list of latest scores from the 2019 Helen Holm Scottish Women’s Open, please click the link below:

LORNA MCCLYMONT WINS THE R&A FOUNDATION SCHOLARS TOURNAMENT AT ST ANDREWS
Aled Greville and Lorna McClymont - Photo courtesy of the R&A |
Scotland’s Lorna McClymont and Welshman Aled Greville produced impressive final round displays to claim success in The R&A Foundation Scholars Tournament in St Andrews.
While McClymont held her nerve to defeat countrywoman Chloe Goadby at the second extra hole of a play-off and win the women’s event, Greville surged through the men’s field with a closing 65 on his first ever round on the Old Course.
McClymont (Milngavie) representing nearby SRUC Elmwood, and University of Birmingham student Greville came out on top in the two-day World Amateur Golf Ranking™ counting event, featuring 60 men and women students representing 24 universities from across the world.
By virtue of their respective victories, both players achieved automatic spots in the International Team to face the United States of America in the 2019 Arnold Palmer Cup match being played at Alotian, Arkansas from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 June.
Biggest ever win McClymont shared the overnight lead with Goadby (University of Stirling and a local member at St Regulus Ladies) after the opening 36 holes over the Eden Course and they couldn’t be separated after three-under-par rounds of 73 on the Old Course to post eight-under-par totals.
It was McClymont, 18, who went on to achieve the biggest win of her career to date, making an up and down from the Valley of Sin at the 18th, the second hole of overtime, while Goadby bogeyed.
She said, “It feels amazing, I’m struggling for words. I knew it would be tight the whole way around, with Nicola (Slater) as well, as she had a good front nine.
“I just tried to enjoy the play-off and thankfully managed to get up and down on the last. I’m in the Scottish Golf Academy and hope to keep progressing.”
Sparkling golf Jasmine MacKintosh (Robert Gordon University) and Nicola Slater (University of Stirling) shared third place on six-under-par.
