RENFREWSHIRES COUNTY TRI-AM OVER RALSTON - WINNING TEAM

Renfrewshire Ladies' County Golf Association held their Tri-am Competition over Ralston GC today.

Ralston's 18th green and Clubhouse

Surprisingly the rain stayed off for the whole competition but it was a very blustery day and stabilisers would have been handy on the 1st green. Wind aside, the course was in excellent condition and is always a favourite with the RLCGA members.

Played as a betterball stableford with two scores counting at each hole it turned into a very closely fought competition with the winning team with a score of 73 points being Lorna Howie (Whitecraigs), Julie Scott (Troon Welbeck) and Maureen Mitchell (Old Ranfurly).

Winning Tri-am Team (l to r) Julie Scott, Maureen Mitchell and Lorna Howie

Four teams then tied with 72 points with second place with a better inward half going to the team comprising of Fiona Armour (Renfrew), Lilias Snodgrass (Ranfurly Castle) and Pam Harvey (Cowglen).

Second Placed Team (l to r) Pam Harvey, Lilias Snodgrass and Fiona Armour

The third placed team was Chris Fowler (Cowglen), Anita McMillan (Erskine) and Lyn Black (Eastwood).

Congratulations to the winning team and sad to say that the Tri-am was the last of the 2018 County monthly competitions but it's always good to finish with a fun event.

However, don't put your golf clubs away yet because booking via HDID or the Members Hub is open until 30th September 2018 for the 2018-19 RLCGA Winter Foursomes. The first round in this knockout competition has to be played by the 13th November.

JULIE WILSON AND JOY McLEOD TAKE THE TOP HONOURS AT THE RENFREWSHIRE COUNTY MEDAL AT BONNYTON

Numbers were up for the Renfrewshire Ladies' County August Medal at Bonnyton GC yesterday.

The mist was down for the early morning rounds and a heavy dew on the grass but it soon lifted and it actually ended up quite a warm day even though the sun decided not to make an appearance.

There was some excellent scoring, with Julie Wilson, from Williamwood, winning scratch with a gross 77, nett 73.

Julie Wilson - Scratch Winner

However, it was a case of a clean sweep for Ranfurly Castle Players thereafter with Division 1 winner, narrowly beating Julie Wilson in a count back,  being our very own County stalwart Carol Fell with a 84 nett 73.
Carol Fell - Winner of Division 1

But it was her fellow club member Joy McLeod, who only joined the County this year, with a round of 95, nett 72  being the overall winner with the best nett score of the day and winner of Division 2 (Handicap 13 upwards)  Well done, Joy a great start to your County membership !

But it's okay they are still pals !

EILIDH BRIGGS HAS THE BEST SCRATCH AND PAT PENNEL WINS RLCGA JULY MEDAL AT RENFREW

A smaller field than normal played in today's Renfrewshire Ladies' County July Medal at Renfrew GC, on account of Old Ranfurly's Open Day, which quite a few of the RLCGA members were participating in. However, we were delighted that the Briggs Sisters could join us.

After early cloudy skies, the sunshine broke through and with a slight breeze it made for a very comfortable game of golf. There was a fair bit of run on the course due to this extended spell of dry weather but hard ground can give way to some rogue bounces at times so it wasn't easy conditions. And of course there are all the trees to contend with.

There was still some excellent scores, however, with Eilidh Briggs  winning scratch and Division 1 with a magnificent gross 72, nett 75.

But it was Pat Pennel, from Ranfurly Castle, who got the measure of the fairways and putting to return a very steady round of 96 (48 out and in), nett 72 and win the July Medal and Division 2. Well done, Pat !

LOCAL PLAYER MAUREEN WOODHEAD WINS RENFREWSHIRE JUNE MEDAL AT GOUROCK AND EMMA KENNEDY WINS THE SCRATCH

A smaller field than normal played in today's June Medal at Gourock GC, partly due to it's location and partly due to the West Vets match at Kilmacolm, which tied up some of the RLCGA players
Sadly, the weather forecast didn't get it right today.... dry in the morning and showers in the afternoon and evening it said. So we had showers and a fair breeze in the morning, drier in the afternoon and torrential rain at night time when the pesky midges came out to play !

Maureen Woodhead - Winner of June Medal and Division 1
The difficult conditions were reflected in the scores, however local player Maureen Woodhead returned an impressive gross 84, nett 75 to win Division 1 and the Medal with Emma Kennedy (Paisley) - pictured below winning the Scratch with an 83.

Emma Kennedy - Scratch Winner

Maureen Neilson - Winner of Division 2

Maureen Neilson, from nearby Greenock Golf Club, was the winner of division 2 handicap section with a gross 93, net 79. It must be 'Mo's' new cataract free eyes that made all the difference.

Even though we didn't enjoy the best of weather, the views when the sky did clear a bit were amazing and the view from the 18th tee is fantastic....playing it is another matter !

MURIAL YOUNG FROM OLD RANFURLY WINS THE RENFREWSHIRE COUNTY SPRING MEETING AND PATRICIA DAVIDSON WINS THE SCRATCH AWARD

Even though the sun didn't come through until lunchtime, it was still a comfortable day for playing golf in the Renfrewshire Ladies County Spring Meeting at Caldwell Golf Club today.  The numbers were down a bit on account of quite a  few members playing in the Revive Active Scottish Women's Regional Silver and Bronze Medal Finals at Kilmacolm.

The course was in good condition although competitors found the greens somewhat tricky to judge the pace, especially after playing on the slick greens of Portland Troon at the West Vets Summer Meeting on Wednesday.   It must have been those 3 putts that resulted in a CSS of 74

Patricia Davidson ( Erskine Golf Club) pictured left won the scratch with a gross 81 which included a birdie at the 14th and 8 pars.

In second place was Linda McDougall (Greenock) with a gross 84 (bih) and Carol McNally (Williamwood) finished in third place with a gross 84.

Muriel Young (pictured above) of Old Ranfurly Golf Club playing off a handicap of 17 was the overall winner of the Spring Meeting with a nett 71. Muriel played very steady today, going out in 45 and back in 43 with 5 pars in her round and no higher than a 6 on her card.

RESULTS :
Divison 1 (Handicap Scratch - 12)

1st: Patricia Davidson (Erskine) 81(6) 75.
2nd: Linda McDougall (Greenock) 84 (8) 76.
3rd: Marion Stewart (Kilmacolm) 88 (12) 76.

1st: Muriel Young (Old Ranfurly) 88 (17) 71.
2nd:  Morag Key (Ralston) 87 (14) 73.
3rd: Julie Scott (Barshaw) 92 (18) 74.

And lastly, Mo Neilson (Greenock) really thought her boat had come in today but it was unfortunately made of melon.....better luck next time !
