With a three-shot lead going into Sunday’s final round, Babnik continued to play outstanding golf on the links at Royal Troon Old Course, picking up four shots in as many holes on the front nine in Ayrshire.

Scotland’s Shannon McWilliam and Chloe Goadby were winners of the annual team event, taking home the Ladies’ Club Silver Salver by beating England by 15 shots

Shannon also finished as the top Scot as this year’s event on six-under-par.

Speaking to Scottish Golf, Shannon said: “It was another really good result for me today, I have finished in the top five at the Helen Holm quite a few times now and to win the team event with Chloe was really nice as well.

It’s been a great week and one I will remember after making my fourth hole-in-one of my career at Royal Troon Portland on Friday.”

HELEN HOLM - DAY 2 - SHANNON MCWILLIAM IS THE LEADING SCOT

Slovenia’s Pia Babnik continued her good form on Day 2 at the 2019 Helen Holm Scottish Women’s Open with a three-under-par round of 69 at Royal Troon on Saturday.

Babnik, who is currently seeking a spot in Europe’s PING Junior Solheim Cup Team, remained consistent to extend her lead over the 120-strong field to three.

Sitting five shots behind Babnik, Shannon McWilliam is the top Scot after 36 holes. She had 4 birdies in her inward half of 33.

Speaking to Scottish Golf following a bogey-free back nine, which also included four birdies, McWilliam was pleased with how she played, saying: “I played pretty solid on the back nine today, I had eagle putts on 11 and 12 that didn’t drop but overall I am quite happy with the way I finished my round.”

McWilliam is one of five Scots  inside the top 10 and with 18 holes left to play, the youngster from Aboyne is looking forward to playing in one of the final groups out tomorrow: “I am looking forward to playing Royal Troon Old Course tomorrow, all I can do is go out there and give it my best shot. It will be an exciting day.”

Tomorrow’s final group will include Slovenia’s Pia Babnik, Finland’s Emilia Tukiainen and France’s Charlotte Bunel. For a full draw sheet and list of latest scores from the 2019 Helen Holm Scottish Women’s Open, please click the link below:

SCOTTISH VETS WIN THE MARY MCKENNA TROPHY

Scottish Vets Winning Team

It was a thrilling day at Troon Portland today when the Scottish Vets team set out in freezing conditions to try to ensure they continued the previous day’s winning ways.

They were well aware that a 2 point lead was a very narrow margin when there were 8 points at stake for the Mary McKenna Trophy. Even in the testing conditions there were strong performances on both sides. Click Here for the four ball report

Full results:
Lesley Lloyd halved with Carol Wickham
Elaine Moffat lost to Catherine Reilly - 1 down
Gillian Kyle beat Pat Dorian 2&1
Donna Jackson beat Mary McLaren 4 &3
Alison Davidson beat Margaret McAuliffe 3&2

Sheena Wood lost to Gertie McMullen 1 down
Frances Millar lost to Alison Taylor 4&3

Final result: Scotland 6 1/2 Ireland 5 1/2

Scottish and Irish Vets Teams

Over the two days, everyone played a vital part in this win but it would be remiss of us not to mention that Lesley Lloyd halved her match after being 2 down with 2 to play, against Carol Wickham , who is considered one of the strongest Irish players.

So if you spend your time trying to hit the ball further - stop now and practise your short game. Lesley’s accuracy around the greens was key.
Many thanks to Troon Ladies who worked hard to help make this event a success.

RENFREWSHIRE COUNTY CAPTAIN JUNE HAS A HOLE IN ONE AT TROON

June has a Hole In One
At the Renfrewshire County Beetle Drive Fundraiser in February, Gleddoch pair Isabell Donnelly and Shirley Back outbid others for a round for 3 with President Jennifer Mack at Troon Portland.

On Sunday, with RLCGA Captain June Lockhart invited to make up the 3rd player, the event took place.
Although the weather was challenging at first, it was dry for most of the round and the course was in excellent condition.
The ‘oldies’ played the ‘youngsters’ (no names need to be mentioned !) and a very competitive match ended all square, where Captain June made her first contribution at the par 3 4th with a hole-in-one !
As we were the only customers upstairs all day, it was not an expensive celebration – a typical Aberdonian

Shirley Back, June Lockhart, Jen Mack and Isabell Donnelly

Many thanks to President Jennifer for offering such an enjoyable prize for our Silent Auction, which included lovely eats afterwards, and thanks to Isabell and Shirley for inviting me along.

This is June's 3rd hole in one -- Many Congratulations

GREENLEES TROPHY PRESENTATION AND LUNCH

Winners Division 3 (Sylvia Muir )- Ayr Bellisle ,  Greenlees Champions (Annie Howie) - Troon, 2nd Division Winners (Gillian McLeod) Williamwood and West Kilbride ( Helen Craig) - Runners Up Division 1
The Annual Greenlees Lunch took place today, 18 October, at Cowglen Golf Club.
This was attended by 51 ladies representing 22 clubs and 5 Clubs sent apologies.

Greenlees Secretary Maureen Mitchell (Old Ranfurly) opened the proceedings by welcoming everyone to the 78th Anniversary Year of the Greenlees Trophy.
She stated that it was unfortunate that our club members had been reduced as Cawder Golf Club had withdrawn from the league.

She took the opportunity to remind the club secretaries that their lists of  players and the Greenlees fee were now due if they had not already sent them in.

She then introduced the top table guests -  Pat Lunney, the Lady Captain of Cowglen, who welcomed everyone on behalf of the Club.
She then introduced Carol Fell and thanked her for setting up and keeping all the Greenlees results together and enabling everyone to be able to keep up to date with the league positions on the web.

Cowglen Golf Club Organisers --
Sue Fordyce, Moira Kerr, Pam Harvey, Pat Lunney and Pam Mather

Next introduction was that of  Cowglen's Greenlees Secretary Pam Mather who had organised the lunch arrangements.
She had  a band of helpers to assist the proceedings and the tables were named after some of the holes on the course --

PLATEAU: Lanark and Lenzie
GLEN : Top Table (Ranfurly Castle and Old Ranfurly)
SOUTHVIEW: Cathcart Castle, Cathkin Braes, Ayr Bellisle and Douglas Park
BRAEFACE: Prestwick St Nicholas, Kilmacolm, Eastwood and Whitecraigs
RACECOURSE: Milngavie, West Kilbride, Hilton Park, Williamwood
BANGORSHILL: Troon, East Renfrewshire and Greenock

Pam said grace and the ladies were then served an excellent lunch.

Lots of pleasant chatter could be heard and it was obvious that everyone was enjoying catching up with old friends.

After coffee was served, Maureen invited the Captain Pat to present the trophies to the winning teams.
Division 3 was won by Ayr Bellisle with Williamwood winners of Division 2.
The runners up in Division 1 were West Kilbride who were  beaten by the overall winners - Troon. Troon's Greenlees Secretary, Annie Howie then made a short speech and  a vote of thanks for all the hospitality received from Cowglen and thanked Maureen and her helpers for organising a very successful lunch.

Cowglen Captain Pat and "Greenlees Webmaster " Carol were presented with beautiful flower displays from the top table that Maureen had made.

Maureen then concluded by wishing everyone a safe journey home.
