NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE SCOTTISH LADIES GOLFING ASSOCIATIONPitreavie’s Louise Kenney remains on course to retain the Scottish Ladies’ Golf Association’s Order of Merit, while Abernethy teenager Hannah McCook is the early leader in the race for the girls’ title.
After six counting tournaments, Kenney, beaten finalist in the Scottish championship at Craigielaw last month, remains in pole position on the women's list with 2,280 points. Laura Murray (Alford) is in second place with 1,880.
Jane Turner (Craigielaw) is third with 1,515, while the biggest mover is Mortonhall’s Rachael Watton. She finished second in the Munross Trophy to overtake Scottish champion Kelsey MacDonald (Nairn Dunbar). Rachael has 1,371 points with Kelsey on 1,285.
After the opening two events In the girls’ Order of Merit, 16-year-old Hannah, who finished second in the Paul Lawrie Scottish Schools’ Championship at Murrayshall earlier this week, is the early leader with 470 points.
Alyson McKechin (Ederslie) is a close second on 440 with
Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm) and Lesley Atkins (Gullane) in the next two spots on 420 and 408 respectively.
The next women's event to count for SLGA Order of Merit points is the British Amateur Championship at Ganton from June 22-26. Points are allocated for both the stroke-play qualifying and the match-play knock-out – while the girls’ will be chasing points at the Janice Moodie Trophy at Windyhill on July 2.
