Day 1 AT THE LADIES SCOTTISH OPEN AT DUNDONALD

Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open at Dundonald Links
Five Scots in the mix behind leader Nocera

NEWS RELEASE
Gwladys Nocera from France set the target with a five under par 67 on day one of the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open at Dundonald Links in North Ayrshire.

Nocera delighted the Scottish fans as she topped the leaderboard after a busy first day at the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open - a day that was turned yellow in aid of Beatson Cancer Charity, with many players and spectators wearing yellow to show their support.
The Frenchwomen's total of five under par after round one was good enough for a one-shot lead, ahead of Hannah Burke, Becky Morgan and Nanna Koerstz Madsen with a clutch of players one shot further back on three under par.
Norcera, winner of the 2008 Ladies Scottish Open, shot an impressive five birdies on the front nine, with an additional birdie on the 18th. Just one blemish on an otherwise perfect card came at the par four 10th, where the talented Frenchwomen dropped a shot.

Five Scots including Pamela Pretswell are in close contention and within the top 15
She said: The first couple of holes were pretty hard. It was raining and windy so we had the full experience of Scottish weather. But then it got really good and sunny, not too windy, so we had a good back nine. Sometimes the approaches were close and the putting was good. Everything was good at different times.
“It is a difficult course if the wind picks up because there are a lot of bunkers in play off the tee and the greens have a lot of double slopes, so it’s really hard to read the lines but we’ve done a good job.”
In the amateur team competition Sweden's Camilla Lennarth, with playing partner Jamie Govan, lead by one shot on 10 under par.

WEST GIRLS 60th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION IS CANCELLED

Sadly, numbers for the West Girls 60th Anniversary Celebration did not reach what we hoped for to fulfil the objectives or bringing together former and present "Girls" and committee members to celebrate 60 years of the Association with a special occasion at West Kilbride Golf Club on the 4th August.
As a result we have decided to cancel the event.
It is just a pity it's not going ahead but the golfing calendar is busy and with the Open and the Ladies at Dundonald, national events during July and August, these may have been a contributory factor to us not getting more support.

SCOTLAND REACHES SEMI FINALS OF 2ND FLIGHT IN ICELAND

From the Scottish Golf Website

Singles wins for Hannah McCook and Eilidh Briggs helped Scotland’s ladies to an enthralling 3-2 win over The Netherlands in their opening match play bout in the European Team Championship Flight B.

The foursomes pairing of Jess Meek and Heather Munro gave the Scots a flyer as they cruised to a 5&3 win in the top match, before Hannah McCook secured a second point with a dramatic 19th hole victory.

The Dutch levelled the match as Connie Jaffrey and Rachael Taylor found themselves on the wrong ends of defeats, but recent University of Stirling graduate Briggs held her nerve to post a 3&2 win in the final match to give Scotland a chance to top the second flight.

Paisley Open Day was held on Thursday 30th and what a success it was. For the first time in years every slot in the day was taken up. Gillian McGinlay's team won with a great score. It was good to see so many ladies coming back to Paisley.

2nd: Sandra Littlejohn, Marie Doherty both Erskine and Morag Key Ralston .
3rd: Lyn Black Vivian Hamilton both Eastwood and Avril Galbraith (Douglas Park).
