Ayrshire and Renfrewshire Players pipped in the Commonwealth Spoon Finals


 Marg Dalziel and Emma Thomson (Ayrshire) ,  Margaret McGregor  and Sheila Townsley (Dumfriesshire) ,
 and Marilyn Muir and Muriel Young (Renfrewshire )


Margaret McGregor (Lochmaben) and Sheila Townsley (Dumfries and County), representing Dumfriesshire 1, won the Commonwealth Spoons Grand Final at Alyth Golf Club today.
In the foursomes format, they had a net score of 72.5 off 13.5 of a combined handicap to head a field of 44 pairs who qualified via various regional competitions.
They won by 0.5 of a stroke from runners-up Ayrshire 1 (Margaret Dalziel and Emma Thomson, both Loudoun Gowf Club members) who scored 73 off 16.
Renfrewshire 3 (Marilyn Muir and Muriel Young of Old Ranfurly) also had a total of 73 off 13 but they were placed third after a countback.

TROON WELBECK PAIRING LEAD THE PING SCOTTISH MIXED CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIERS GOLF

The Troon Welbeck pairing of Anne Fraser and Hugh McKenzie are looking forward to competing in a ‘final like no other’, after leading the qualifiers for the PING Scottish Mixed Championship, to be staged at glorious Gleneagles.
 An exciting new addition to Scottish Golf’s national events calendar this season, 40 club pairings have won at local level to book their place in the showpiece final on Monday 18 September on the superb Queen’s Course.
 Fraser and McKenzie topped the standings on the national leader board, after producing a brilliant stableford team score of 44 points and are now counting the days down to chasing the inaugural title at the 2019 Solheim Cup venue.

IT'S PAMELA PRETSWELL ASHER NOW

Ladies European Tour member Pamela Pretswell and Ryan Asher tied the knot in a romantic Scottish wedding at Crutherland House Hotel in East Kilbride on Friday 18th August.

Fellow Scottish LET member Kylie Henry was a bridesmaid, along with two of Pamela's best friends from school. Pamela said: "We had the best day; everything went so well and it was so good to have everyone together to see us getting married.

We are just back from our honeymoon in Arran which was absolutely beautiful." The 28-year-old fifth year LET member will now play on Tour as Pamela Pretswell Asher and she tweeted:

West of Scotlands Lorna McClymont and Emma Kennedy playing in the English Open Amateur Championship




Aboyne's Shannon McWilliam was the leading Scot, in a share of 21st place with a two-over-par 75, at the end of the first round of the English women's open amateur stroke-play championship at Woodhall Spa's Hotchkin course, Lincolnshire.
Hannah McCook (Grantown on Spey) was the next best Scot with a 76 for T28 position.
England's Annabell Fuller (Roehampton) and Ireland's Jessie Ross (Clandeboye) set the pace with four-under-par 69s.

Lorna McClymont (Milngavie) wins the St Andrews University schoolgirls invitational tournament

Lorna McClymont 
Lorna McClymont (Milngavie) won the St Andrews University schoolgirls invitational tournament over 54 holes, playing the New Course, Strathtyrum and the Jubilee in that order, over the weekend.
She had rounds of 73, 70 and 75 for an aggregate of 218, winning by four strokes from Susan Woodhouse (East Kilbride) who had scores of 75, 67 and 80.

If Susan had parred the last three holes at the Jubilee Course she would have matched McClymont's total but, instead, she had a double bogey 7 at the 16th and bogeys at the 17th and 18th for an inward half of 43.
McClymont had an eagle 3 in round one and a total bag of nine birdies over the three rounds. Woodhouse has eight birdies.
Kirsten Brown (Strathaven) finished third on 233 - 11 shots adrift of runner=up Woodhouse - with scores of 83, 71 and 79.

Kirsten Brown and Fiona Rattray lose in the quarter finals of the St Andrews Junior Ladies Open

The final of the St Andrews Junior Ladies Open is bound to be a Scotland v England affair as the two English survivors, Eloise Healey (West Lancs) plays compatriot Katie Jane Stanley (Manchester) in the first semi-final (7.10am) over the Old Course while Jennifer Saxton (Muckhart) meets Kimberley Beveridge (Aboyne) in the second tie (7.20am).
Healey KO'd top seed Kirsten Brown (Strathaven) by 2 and 1 in the quarter-finals.
The final of the handicap section will be contested (tee off 12.20) by two English players, Adel Watt, who plays off eight at Cookridge Hall, Leeds, and Isla McDonald O'Brien, a 12-handicapper at Lilleshall Hall.

Mi Hyang Lee wins the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open at Dundonald

Mi Hyang Lee of South Korea shot a six-under-par 66 in fine and breezy conditions to win the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open by a stroke from Australian Karrie Webb and compatriot Mi Jung Hur on a dramatic final day at Dundonald Links in North Ayrshire today.

EILIDH BRIGGS 3RD IN THE MACKIE BOWL

Tara Mactaggart (Minto) won the Mackie Bowl by four strokes  at Gullane today with an eight-under-par total of 140, made up of rounds of 69 and 71.

She had a bag of 10 birdies over the day and her only two bogeys came late in her second round - at the 13th and 17th.
Runner-up was Angus county champion Gillian Paton (Royal Montrose) who was only one behind after an opening 70 but could not press home a challenge on the second circuit and finished with a 74 for 144.
Joint third finishers Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm) and Rachael Livingstone (Kingsknowe) were also breathing down the winner's neck after the first round, Briggs with a 70 and Livingstone with a 69 but they drifted out of contention in the afternoon with rounds of 76 and 77 respectively.

RANFURLY CASTLE OPEN DAY TRI AM RESULTS

On Thursday the 20th July Ranfurly Castle Ladies Section held their  Open Day Tri-Am.

108 ladies played in 36 groups of three.  
The conditions were dry over head but quite windy with very fast greens.  

The novelty prize winners were:-
5th nearest the pin Silver - Margaret Gray - Old Ranfurly
7th nearest the pin Bronze - Maimie Robin - Elderslie
14th nearest the pin Silver and Bronze - Carol McNally - Williamwood
16th nearest the white line - Elma Leisk - Stirling

Main prize winners were:-
3rd place with 74pts BIH - Muriel Young, Valerie McKinnon and Fay Storey  of Old Ranfurly
2nd place with 75pts - Jackie Gray, Sheena Wallace of Gleddoch and Elaine Thom of Port Bannatyne
1st place with 78pts - Pamela Buttar, Elspeth Smith and Lynn Forsyth of Paisley

SAVE THE CHILDREN MIXED FOURSOMES OPEN DAY

Save the Children will be celebrating our 36th Annual Mixed Foursomes Golf Tournament on the 5th of September 2017 at Glenbervie Golf Club with many clubs from across Scotland participating. The winners last year were from Deer Park Country Club. It's a fun event and the golfers always enjoy the day playing for a good cause. Save the Children are keen to involve new clubs.
