NEW WORLD HANDICAP SYSTEM SEMINARS

The World Handicap System (WHS) is set to launch in 2020 and will replace the six different systems currently in use by over 15 million golfers around the world.
It will bring these together into a single set of Rules for Handicapping, enabling golfers of different abilities to play and compete on a fair and equal basis, no matter where they play.

The R&A and The United States Golf Association (USGA) have developed the World Handicap System to include
  • Course rating and slope rating
  • Maximum Handicap of 54
  • Abnormal course and weather conditions adjustment
  • Competitive and recreational scores can count for handicap
  • Handicaps calculated from an average of a player’s most recent scores
To help golf clubs prepare for the launch of WHS in 2020, Scottish Golf will be hosting an initial phase of 12 seminars around the country aimed at educating clubs to ease transition to the new system.
Seminars will take place between the 5th August and 29th August 2019
These evening Seminars will take place between 6.30pm and 8.30pm, with two delegates per club with responsibility for handicapping invited to attend.
To get all the various seminar dates go to the Scottish Golf Website

MIDLOTHIAN COUNTY WIN AGAINST SCOTTISH VETS TEAM IN FRIENDLY MATCH

Midlothian and Scottish Vets
This is SVLGA Captain Ellie Whyte’s report of our recent match v Midlothian County Ladies at Bruntsfield Links with apologies on the delay in posting this:

Ten ladies represented SVLGA to enjoy a friendly competitive match against Midlothian County Ladies

The venue was rather special, the Bruntsfield Links Golf Club which is the 4th oldest golf club In the world. The course has recently been remodelled and is now admitting lady members so we were all excited to be amongst the first ladies to have a competition on this historic course.

Unfortunately there were a few last minute call offs from both teams so we ended up lending Midlothian back a couple of their players.

However this meant that others enjoyed the opportunity of taking part in the match. Well done to the ladies sporting the purple and representing SVLGA for the first time. Roz Purdom, Sue Penman, Sal Shepherd, Louise Graham and wait for it, Ellie Whyte! They were partnered by stalwarts, Frances Millar, Carol Whyte, Sheena Wood, Liz Stewart and Lesley Lloyd.

Congratulations to Midlothian County ladies who won the match 3-2, we look forward to playing again next year.

Thanks must go to Bruntsfield Links Golf Club for their wonderful hospitality and to Louise Fraser, Captain of MLCGA for organising such an enjoyable match.

Scots Hazel and Shannon finish 3rd and 4th in Ireland

Team Winners - Chloe Goadby, Hazel MacGarvie and Shannon McWilliam
it was a case of history repeating itself today at Co. Louth Golf Club as Lily May Humphreys captured the Irish Women’s Open Stroke Play Championship on Sunday just seven days after securing the Welsh Women’s Open Stroke Play at Royal St. David’s. Just 12 months ago the same feat was achieved by Hannah McCook (Scotland) who now competes on the Ladies European Access Tour.

Humphreys began the day with a three shot lead over Hazel MacGarvie (Scotland) and has her tee time approached, conditions determined the strategy for the day.

“The aim today was to try and just make my pars and take opportunities for birdies when they came – I knew the opportunities weren’t going to be many given the wind so it was about not giving shots away. I did a pretty good job of that on the front nine  - I hit three greens and was only one over par so I was quite impressed with myself! I hit eight greens on the back nine which helped settle me and it was a lot less stressful coming in.”

A one-under 73 final round was good for a six shot advantage over Romy Meekers (NED) who finishes runner-up for the second consecutive year.

While conditions proved challenge for some, the best score of the day came from Shannon McWilliam (Scotland), who finished fourth overall with a final round of  72.
Hazel MacGarvie finished in 3rd place and with Chloe Goadby
Scotland won the team award. -- See results below
