By COLIN FARQUHARSON
It was girls on top at the Callaway/Gleneagles Hotel-sponsored Scottish golfwriters and guests' golf tournament over the King's Course, Gleneagles today.
On a dry (!), windless day on a soft course - aren't they all at the moment? - Lynn Kenny (Archerfield Links) won the Belhaven Trophy for the best overall Stableford points score with an outstanding effort of 39 - off a handicap (for competition purposes) of +3!
Lynn's gross score was six-under-par 65 (32-33).
She is the first female competitor ever to win the Belhaven Trophy.
"It was a brilliant display," said one of her playing partners, Carol Fell (Ranfurly Castle).
"No-one was more surprised than me," said Lynn, a former Scottish women's amateur champion who lost her Ladies European Tour card at the end of last season, "because I have played very little golf lately. Maybe this is the answer to regaining my form!"
Rookie pro and recent Curtis Cup heroine Pamela Pretswell (Bothwell Castle), Scottish women's amateur champion Laura Murray (Alford), Michael Gannon (Daily Record) and Neil Hampton, general manager of Royal Dornoch Golf Club won the team event with 94pt .
Runners-up were the all-ladies team of Gillian Kirkwood (Broomieknowe), Lynn Kenny (Archerfield Links), Heather MacRae (Gullane) and Carol Fell with 92pt.
Scott Peddie (Bunkered and Scottish Club Golfer) won he Alex M Fox Trophy as winner of the Golfwriters' section. He scored 32pt off a handicap of seven, despite not scoring any points at all at two holes.
Neil Hampton won the Male Guests' category with 33pt off scratch. His gross score was 71 (34-37) against a par of 68.
Callaway provided the golf equipment prizes and Gleneagles Hotel supplied goodie bags, coffee/tea and bacon rolls on arrival and a two-course lunch, all on the house. And, of course, they provided the golfwriters and guests with the courtesy of the King's Course - perhaps the biggest prize of all!
The management at Machrihanish Dunes, Trump International Links, Marriott Dalmhoy Hotel Golf and Country Club, Royal Dornoch Golf Club and Gleneagles Hotel provided courtesy tee times at their courses at future dates as additional prizes.

Janice had a good par 3 to win the short 14th but she was running out of holes. Heather Anderson's par at the long 15th was enough to win the tie.

Heather beat Karen Burns (Bathgate) 5 and 3 in the other semi-final.

Dornoch's Alison Bartlett is the Scottish Senior's Strokeplay Champion

Royal Dornoch's Alison Bartlett is the new Scottish senior women's amateur stroke-play golf champion.
She won the title at Kemnay Golf Club, Aberdeenshire today after long-time leader Alex Glennie (Kilmarnock Barassie) dropped four shots to par over the last four holes.
Glennie, well clear of the field, had a double bogey 7 at the 15th and bogeys at the 16th and 17th for a six-over-par round of 79 (39-40) which gave her a two-round final total of eight-over 154.
Bartlett matched that aggregate by birdieing the 17th on her way to a one-under 72 (37-35).
Glennie's downward spiral continued when she lost the sudden-death play-off to Bartlett at the first extra hole.
Tain sisters Mary Smith (81 for 158) and Anne Ryan (80 for 161) finished third and joint fifth to give the far North three players in the top six - a grand performance.
The leading 16 players go on to contest the seniors' match-play championship over the next two days.
Linda Urquhart (Banchory) was the 16th qualifier with an 85 for 168 - pipping former Scottish seniors champion Karen Ballantyne (Craigmillar Park) (83 for 169) for the final place.

AYRSHIRE'S ALEX GLENNIE LEADS AFTER THE 1ST ROUND OF THE SCOTTISH SENIORS AT KEMNAY

Alex Glennie 2011 Scottish Seniors Strokeplay Champion
Ayrshire's Alex Glennie (Kilmarnock Barassie) made an excellent start to the defence of her Scottish senior women's amateur stroke-play championship in the first national golf event to be played at the Kemnay course in Aberdeenshire.
Like every golf course in the country, Kemnay is very, very wet after days, even weeks of rain and was playing every inch of its length today.
Alex Glennie (pictured above), Ayrshire county champion in 2004 and the 2011 Scottish Seniors Strokeplay champion did not have a birdie on her card but 16 pars and bogeys at two long holes, the 15th and 16th, represented a very good day's "work" for a two-over-par 73 (37-38).
She will start Wednesday's second and final round with a two-shot lead from Jill Harrison (Cruden Bay) and Mary Smith (Tain).
Noreen Fenton (Dunbar), who had an 81 today, is the defending matchplay champion but is now a selector and will not take part in the 2nd qualifying round.

PAMELA PRETSWELL TURNS PROFESSIONAL

Pamela Pretswell
Pamela Pretswell announced today that she has turned professional and will play on the Ladies European Tour Access Series (LETAS).

Pamela, who graduated from Glasgow University last year, moves into the professional ranks on the back of a successful amateur career. Last month she helped Great Britain and Ireland win the Curtis Cup against the USA for the first time since 1996 and is a former winner of the British Ladies Amateur Stoke Play Championship and Swiss Ladies Amateur Open.

Since graduating, Pamela has been preparing for professional golf by playing as an amateur in the LETAS and in May she became the first amateur to win a LETAS event when she won the Ljunbyhed Park PGA Ladies Open in Sweden by 2 shots after a final round of 4 under par.

Pamela is currently lying 2nd in the LETAS Order of Merit and is targeting a top 3 finish which would secure a card for the Ladies European Tour (LET) in 2013. Pamela's first event as a professional will be in the LETAS Ladies Challenge in Norway next week.

On turning professional, Pamela paid tribute to the support and encouragement that she has received from the Scottish Ladies Golf Association (SLGA), Ladies Golf Union (LGU), Lanarkshire Ladies County Golf Association, Bothwell Castle Golf Club, Ladies Golf Club Troon, Aberdeen Asset Management, Coach Alan Murdoch and his team at Kings Acre.

Carol Whyte wins the Windyhill Club Championship

Tracy Masterton, Carol Whyte, Laura McGeaghy, Ann MacDonald -- Tracy & Ann were caddies.
Windyhill Golf Club held their Club Championship matches today in a mixture of sun and showers. Carol Whyte and Laura McGeachy contested the Ladies Championship in what proved to be a well fought match. Carol started well with pars at the first 3 holes to go 3up. Laura then staged a determined come back bringing the match back to 1 down after 7 but Carol regained her lead to 3 at the turn. Carol birdied the infamous 12th to go 4 up but birdies eluded Laura at 14 & 15 when her putts just shaved the hole. The match ended on 15 with Carol winning 4&3 with a 2 over par score!

A great match by both players.

ALYSON MCKECHIN QUALIFIES FOR THE MATCHPLAY STAGES OF THE BRITISH WOMEN AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

A marvellous three under par 69 - the lowest of both qualifying rounds - earned Super Scot Sally Watson the honour of being top seed for the match-play stages of the British women's open amateur golf championship at Carnoustie.
Sally, originally from South Queensferry but whose family home is now Elie in Fife, tied with 18-year-old French girl Celine Boutier on three-under-par 141 for the No 1 spot.
Sally had rounds of 72-69, Celine 70-71, so the card comparison gave Sally, with the better second round, the No 1 seeding.
The only other Scots to figure among the 64 match-play qualifiers were:
Rachael Watton (Mortonhall) on 152 (77-75).
