LOUDOUN GOWF PAIR WIN AYRSHIRE COUNTY WINTER FOURSOMES

From L to R - Liz Wilson (Captain) Aileen Anderson, Sheila Adams,
Helen Craig and Irene Papworth

Due to temporary greens in play at Prestwick St Nicholas, the final of the Ayrshire County Winter Foursomes was played over Kilmarnock Barassie.

When it was played in February— It was a dry but extremely cold day with everyone well wrapped up against the elements!

The final was between the Loudoun Gowf pair Aileen Anderson and Sheila Adams against the West Kilbride’s Helen Craig and Irene Papworth (Skelmorlie)

To the match itself, Helen and Irene got off to a flying start with a great putt to win the first hole.  However, Sheila and Aileen hit some great form, including a birdie at the Railway hole, to end the front nine 4 up!

They stretched their lead to 5 after the 11th but a fantastic fight back from Helen and Irene, winning 5 of the next 6 holes took them to the 18th all square.

Extra holes looked on the cards but a 2 putt from long range was good enough for Sheila and Aileen to win by one hole.

Ayrshire's Audrey Thompson (Loudoun Gowf) won the Barnardo's Scottish Grand Final at Arbroath today (Friday) in "photo finish" with Penny Maxwell (Strathmore) and Fay Rodenburg (Braehead)
With 31 Stableford points apiece in very windy conditons, the three players headed a field of 43 qualifiers from club eliminators all over Scotland. Audrey plays off four, Penny has 33 of a handicap amd Fay plays off 18. The scorecard play-off went to the last nine holes to decree that Audrey was the winner.
Then it was to last six holes before Penny was declared the runner-up with Fay third.
Daphne Brill (Murrayshall), who plays off 10, finished a close-up fourth with 30pt. Here again there was a card countback with other players on the 30pt mark and Daphne got the nod on the best back nine.

Daily Mail Foursomes Finals at Dalmahoy

Sally Hamilton (Loudoun Gowf) reports:
Due to the terrible weather over the weekend of the finals the format was changed on the first day to one Stableford round with the top four teams from 16 progressing to the semi-finals.
Loudoun Gowf (Sally Hamilton and Gale Macpherson) were lucky enough to be in the top four.
Again, due to the weather on day two, the format was changed from match-play to Stableford stroke-play and, unfortunately, we played the last four holes poorly.
To see a photo of Sally Hamilton and Gale Macpherson go to the Gillian Kirkwood Website

All in the West congratulate you both on a great achievement in getting so far in the tournament
