News from SGU Golf Central

SGU Golf Central Logo

As part of our ongoing commitment to this service for our clubs and for golfers alike, I write to advise you of some changes to both the look and feel of the site and the domain name at which the site may be accessed directly. In addition, I am pleased to advise of a new SGU web site within which SGU Golf Central will continue to be found.

The new SGU web site will go live on Monday 1 September and may be found at www.scottishgolf.org. The site will feature all of the services found on the previous site but we hope you will agree, in a far more user friendly way. As is ever the case with web sites, we will continue to develop this site over the next few months.

With regard to SGU Golf Central, we have developed a new look SGU Golf Central which can be found at the new SGU web either by clicking on the SGU Golf Central logo on the home page or via the Play the Game menu. The new look SGU Golf Central will perform all of the key features seen in the previous edition but is intended to be more user friendly and allows more easily for updates to the functionality. For example, we have added the opportunity for clubs to provide a link to their on line tee time booking software (subject to availability), thus giving you the golfer the opportunity to identify those courses with such software and book your golf from your own PC.

One key difference is that you will no longer need to register to use the site. We will now merge our database of SGU Golf Central registered users with our other database of registered golfers meaning that you will continue to receive news and special offers from the SGU. Importantly, as has always been the case, you can un-subscribe from this database at any time.

Thank you for your ongoing support of SGU Golf Central and we look forward to delivering additional value via this vital web portal

Kylie's Best Last round earns her 21st place in the European Amateur Championships

Spain's Carlota Ciganda has won the European women's individual amateur championship for a second time at Schloss Schonborn Golf Club, near Vienna in Austria.
Carlota was involved in a play-off, with compatriot Maria Hernandez after they had tied on three-under-par 289.
It was a three-hole stroke-play play-off under the championship rules.
Ciganda won with a three-under-par total. She birdied the first two holes and parred the third.
Christel Boeljon (Netherlands) won the bronze medal with a total of 290, only one stroke behind the play-off participants.
Kylie Walker (Buchanan Castle), the only Scot to qualify for the last two rounds, finished with her best score of the four, a one-under-par 72 for a nine-over-par total of 301, despite a double bogey 7 at the 18th hole, a repeat of of what she did in the first round.
Kylie's tournament haul of 13 birdies and one eagle compared favourably with champion Ciganda's 14 birdies and one eagle but, of course, the Spaniard had many fewer bogeys.
Kylie finished 21st of the 39 qualifiers

Kylie Walker just makes the cut in Austria

Kylie Walker's four birdies in the space of 10 holes could not quite wipe out a triple bogey 7 at the second and five bogeys in the second round of the European women's individual amateur golf championship at Schloss Schonborn Golf Club, near Vienna in Austria today (Thursday).
Kylie, who birdied the seventh, ninth, 12th and 16th, finished on four-over-par 77 after an opening-day 78 which also included a triple bogey. Her 36-hole tally of nine-over 155 had her back in joint 40th place, a disappointing follow-up to last week's performance when she was beaten in a play-off by fellow Scot Roseanne Niven for the British women's open amateur stroke-play championship at Malone Golf Club, near Belfast.
However her score was just enough to make the cut
Majorca-based Scot Lauren Mackin (Ranfurly Castle) had an 83 for 162 and a share of 90th place.
Gemma Webster (HIlton Park) had an 81 for 167 and joint 112th place in a field of 132. Both players missed  the cut
