Formal Process of securing a venue for the 39th Curtis Cup match starts
The Ladies’ Golf Union has announced the start of the formal process of securing a venue for the 39th Curtis Cup match, the historic biennial encounter between teams from Great Britain & Ireland and the USA which will be played on home soil in June 2016.
Golf clubs interested in hosting this match, first played in 1932, are invited in the first instance to lodge an expression of interest with the LGU, after which they will be asked to provide additional information in support of their application. After visiting short-leeted golf clubs, the LGU aims to announce the successful venue at the conclusion of the 27th Curtis Cup match, to be held at The Nairn Golf Club, Scotland, from 8-12 June 2012.
The original idea for the Curtis Cup was to stimulate friendly rivalry amongst players and strengthen the ties of goodwill between the nations, and making a Curtis Cup team is the ultimate goal for the top amateur lady golfer. The quality of past venues is testament to the prestige associated with the event, while past players include many household names – Laura Davies, Catriona Matthew, Paula Creamer, Michelle Wie and Melissa Reid to name but a few.
Shona Malcolm, LGU CEO, said “The Curtis Cup is a unique event. Not only does it showcase the cream of amateur talent from both sides of the Atlantic in three days of intense competition, it also attracts a loyal, sizeable and knowledgeable band of travelling supporters. The host club can be assured of a special and successful week, some great golf, an unbelievable atmosphere and many lasting memories.”
Initial expressions of interest can be directed to the LGU at curtiscup@lgu.org or by writing to the CEO at The Scores, St Andrews. Fife, Scotland KA16 9AT.
The LGU has also taken the opportunity of unveiling the new Curtis Cup logo which will be used for the first time for the 2012 match at Nairn.

Leona McGuire leads the Helen Holm Trophy after the 2nd round
Leona Maguire has had only one bogey over the first 36 holes at Troon Portland of the Helen Holm Scottish women's open amateur stroke-play championship.
In more difficult conditions today - no wind but dreich, damp and very cold - the 16-year-old Curtis Cup twin from the Slieve Russell club in Ireland's Co Cavan, added a three-under-par 72 to her excellent opening effort of 69.
Pitreavie's Louise Kenny was the best Scot and is only one behind going into the final round over Royal Troon tomorrow
Alyson McKechin (Elderslie) became the second best Scot in the two-round totals when she returned a 76 for 147. A double bogey 7 at the long second and a bogey at the third derailed her temporarily but she managed to get it out in one-over-par 39 with birdies at the first and sixth. After the turn, a bogey at the sort 10th cancelled out a birdie at the long 15th. --- Alyson is now in 12th position after the 2 rounds
Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm) improved her round by 1 shot from yesterday. She had 1 bogey and 2 birdies on the outward nine and par golf on the inward nine allowing Eilidh to move from 33rd position up to 19th. British stroke-play champion Pamela Pretswell (Bothwell Castle) is also on 149 after a 76. Ayrshire County Champion Rachael McQueen (Troon Ladies) is one shot behind on 150

Anyone looking for or have spare accommodation at Machrihanish
I am looking for some help please... I managed to get my application in on time for the Scottish over at Machrihanish unfortunately no one else I was intending going with has managed to get the time off work. This currently means I have no one to share accommodation with and nothing currently booked. Before I get something for myself, I wondered if anyone else was in a similar situation.
If you can then please EMAIL by clicking on the email link
Thanks

LOCHWINNOCH GOLF CLUB --- OPEN DAY GREENSOMES
Dear fellow Golfer,
As you know Lochwinnoch Golf Club has always had the reputation of being “very hilly”. For this reason we have always struggled to fill our Open Day places and with this mind, we in the Ladies Section have applied for, and been granted, permission to hold our Open Day over what was the original nine hole Course. This involves only a very gradual climb, and we hope to encourage a good response.
The format will be a GREENSOMES COMPETITON on Sunday 17th July 2011 with Tee-off times from 9.30a.m. We hope this event will prove to be popular and I will be delighted to take your entry either with a partner of your choosing, or even a fourball of friends. The price is £7.00 per person.
We now have excellent catering facilities at Lochwinnoch Golf Club and this will add to a very pleasant day out and hopefully a share in the Prizes. My ‘phone number is 01505 50 2525 or e.mail j.sm.shaw@talktalk.net
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours truly,
Sheila Shaw.

Bothwell Castle’s Pamela Pretswell, the Women’s British Open Strokeplay Champion, and Kelsey MacDonald (Nairn Dunbar), the Scottish Ladies’ Amateur Champion, aim to start the new season in style at the Helen Holm Scottish Open Strokeplay Championship at Troon from Friday to Sunday this coming weekend (April 22-24).
Pretswell is one of four backmarkers boasting a plus four handicap, and the 2010 Curtis Cup player is looking forward to the challenge.
“I have been busy at Glasgow University completing my Business and Management degree,” explained the 21-year-old, who hopes to graduate with honours this summer. “But I have also managed to spend some time in Portugal preparing for the season.”
“I’ve got a hectic golf schedule this summer and have made some slight changes to my swing and my putting over the winter so it will be good to test them out at the Helen Holm.”MacDonald had a terrific 2010 season. In addition to winning her first Scottish Amateur title, the 20-year-old also reached the final of the British Amateur, retained the Scottish Open Under-21 Scottish Open Strokeplay Championship and topped the 2010 Scottish Ladies’ Golfing Association Order of Merit.
The Irish Maguire twins – Leona, who won the title in 2009, and Lisa – plus England’s Emma Brown are the other players with plus four handicaps in a field that has attracted entries from 11 countries.
Danielle McVeigh made it back-to-back wins for Ireland when she claimed the title last year, and she will be back to defend the crown. Louise Kenney (Pitreavie) was the best of the Scots in joint third place.
The 54-hole Championship takes place over three days. Following 18 holes over Troon Portland on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd April, the top 66 players and ties will qualify for the final round over Royal Troon on Sunday 24th April.
