Scottish schoolgirls champion Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies), also winner of the Ayrshire women's county title this season, will play South of Scotland girls champion Tara Mactaggart (Minto) in the 18-hole final of the Scottish Under-18 girls' championship at Ranfurly Castle Golf Club on Saturday morning.
In this morning's quarter-finals, Jaffrey ended the bid of St Andrews' Lauren Whyte (St Regulus) to become the first player since Carly Booth in 2007-2008 to win the national girls' title two years in a row. Connie, the fifth seed, beat Whyte by 4 and 2 and followed that up with a 5 and 4 win in the semi-finals against Nicola Robertson (Dunblane New) who had earlier KO'd the highly rated Carla Young (North Berwick) and then, in the quarter-finals, the 2010 champion Lesley Atkins (Gullane) by 5 and 4.
Jaffrey was level par in her victory over Robertson after being two up at the turn.
Mactaggart, 17, who reached the last 16 of the Scottish women's championship at Longniddry in May, was one under par in winning the all-Borders semi-final against Danielle Ker (Roxburghe).
Tara was one down after six holes but never looked back after birdieing the short seventh and long eighth to be one up at the turn.
Ker won the 13th and 16th on the inward half but Mactaggart won the 11th, 12th, 15th and 17th for victory.
Emma Greenlees
Emma Greenlees (Dumfries and Co) beat Kimberley Beveridge (Aboyne) by 4 and 3 in the final of the Ansley Reid Salver subsidiary competition.

Lesley Atkins
Lesley Atkins won the title at Eyemouth in 2010. Now in her final year of girls’ golf, the Gullane Ladies’ member set her sights on regaining the Championship after she knocked out top seed Emily Dalgetty (Glencorse) in the second round of matchplay at Ranfurly Castle.

But she could face an intriguing encounter against defending champion Lauren Whyte. The St Regulus youngster made it through to the quarter-finals with a 19th hole win over the reigning Scottish Junior Open Strokeplay Champion, Nicola Callander (Mill Green).
Atkins, a golf scholarship student at Loretto School in Musselburgh, defeated Dalgetty, who had led the strokeplay qualifying, by 4 and 3 to set up a quarter-final against Dunblane New’s Nicola Robertson.

Robertson caused a major chock by knocking out North Berwick’s Clara Young, a finalist at the Scottish Ladies’ Championship at Longniddry in May, by a convincing 5 and 4 margin.

In the other last eight match in the top half, Whyte will take on Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies), a 5 and 3 winner over Bothwell Castle’s Eva O’Connor.

In the bottom half, Heather Munro (Monifieth) will face Borderer Danielle Ker (The Roxburghe) and Eilidh Watson (Muckhart) will tackle Tara MacTaggart (Minto).

Mactaggart, the No. 2 seed, eased through to the last eight with a 3 and 2 victory over Kirsten Brown (Strathaven).

Defending champion Lauren Whyte from St Andrews was fourth of the 32 qualifiers for the match play stages of the Scottish Under-18 girls' golf championship at Ranfurly Castle Golf Club, Bridge of Weir today (Wednesday).
Whyte had a pair of 77s for a six-over-par aggregate of 154. After taking 41 to the turn, the Fife girl got into her stride with an inward half of 36 although she did bogey the testing last two holes. She was not alone in that.
Emily Dalgetty (Glencorse) retained her overnight pole position to be the leading qualifier even though she dipped from an opening 74 to a 78 for 152.
Like many of the field, Dalgetty, who had her 16th birthday only a week ago, found the closing holes tough. She bogeyed the short 14th, 16th and 18th for 39 home.
Second seed is Borderer Tara MacTaggart (Minto) with 76-77 for 153. Tara had an eagle 3 at the long sixth and a birdie at the eighth in second-round halves of 37-40.
Heather Munro (Monifieth) birdied four of the first 14 but bogeyed 15th, 17th and 18th for a 75 and 154. Her second round did give her third seeding ahead of the two others on that mark, Lauren Whyte and Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) (76-78).
Munro's 75 was the joint best second round alongside that of Clara Young (North Berwick), beaten finalist in the Scottish women's amateur championship at Longniddry in May.
Young had a double bogey 6 at the seventh but covered the last 11 holes in two-under par with contrasting halves of 41-34.
Players with totals of 170 and better qualified for the scratch championship match-play. Surprise non-qualifiers included Deeside's Tegan Seivwright, a semi-finalist in this event last year and a qualifier for the match-play of the Scottish women's championship this year. She had rounds of 89 and 83 for 172.

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Colin@scottishgolfview.com

Glencorse's Emily Dalgetty was the only player to match the par of 74 in the first qualifying round of the Scottish Under-18 girls' Championship at Ranfurly Castle Golf Club, Bridge of Weir in Renfrewshire today.
Emily had birdies at the short seventh, the long eight and the 10th in halves of 37. She bogeyed the ninth but was heading for a sub-par score until she had further bogeys at the 16th and 18th.
Dalgetty will start the second eliminating round one stroke ahead of Nicola Robertson (Dunblane New) who was beaten finalist in last week's North of Scotland women's championship at Deeside GC, Aberdeen.
Robertson had a double bogey 6 at the first hole but birdied three long holes, the sixth, eighth and 11th, to be under par until she bogeyed the 17th and 18th for halves of 38 and 37.
Defending champion Lauren Whyte (St Regulus) is tied for sixth place on 77.
Only the leading 32 players after the second qualifying round will go forward to the match play stages.

SCOTTISH GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP BEGINS TOMORROW AT RANFURLY CASTLE

Lauren Whyte (St Regulus) defends the Scottish Girls' Amateur Championship at Ranfurly Castle from July 16-20 - but the young Fifer will face a tough challange.

Clara Young (North Berwick) showed her quality by reaching the final of the Scottish Ladies' Amateur Championship at Longniddry in May, while Nicola Callander (Mill Green) won the Scottish Junior (under-21) Open Strokeplay Championship at Blairgowrie last year.

German-based Fiona Liddell is just 15, but she reached the last 16 at the Scottish Ladies' Championship (she lost to young) and is fresh from playing for GB and Ireland in the Junior Vagliano Trophy in France.

Another big threat will be Lesley Atkins (Gullane). She won the title at Eyemouth in 2010 - and this will be her final year in the Championship.

Whyte won the title at Crail last year and went on to represent GB at the Australian Youth Olympics in January. She is the back marker in the field of 62 with a plus one handicap.

After 36 holes of stroke play qualifying, the top 32 go through to the matchplay knock-out. The next 16 qualify for the Ansley Reid Salver.

MILNGAVIE'S ANNA TELFER WINS THE SCOTTISH SENIOR'S STROKE PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

Anna with her trophy -- Courtesy of Janice Paterson
West Vets Captain Anna Telfer (Milngavie) is the new Scottish Senior women's amateur stroke-play champion.
She won the title in tough conditions at West Linton, despite a second-round 79 for an 11-over-par 36-hole total of 155.
Two behind at halfway, the key to Anna's final round was a brace of birdie 2s. The first came at the short second and the other came vitally at the par three 17th.
The late birdie secured a one shot victory over Heather Anderson (Blairgowrie), who shot a 78 and is now set to defend the matchplay title over the next two days at the same venue.
Anderson claimed the knock-out crown at Kemnay last year and the top 16 from the Strokeplay Championship now advance to the head to head battles.
West Linton member Margaret Tough and Fiona de Vries  (St Rule) tied for third place on 157 in the strokeplay following final rounds of 78 and 80 respectively.
Kathleen Webster (Ladybank), who had also birdied the second and 17th to lead after the first round on 74 – the low score of the Championship – closed with three bogeys and had to settle for fifth place after an 84.
