Scotland beat Ireland in the European Team Championships

The fourth day of action and the second day of match play has been completed at the European Team Championships across the continent. It is now known who will face-off in saturday's finals.
Spain and Sweden will both have two chances at securing gold medals on the last day of action: the Swedes have teams in both the men's and ladies' finals, while the Spanish ladies' and girls' teams both made the finals of their events.
Spain were the first team to qualify for Saturday's final at Is Molas Resort on Friday, upsetting the hosts, and the top-qualifiers, in the semi-finals. The morning session was dominated by the Spaniards, winning both foursomes matches by the 16th hole.
The Italian team fought back in the afternoon however: Alessia Nobilio, Alessandra Fanali, and Letizia Bagnoli all won their matches by three holes, giving the Italians a 3-2 advantage. But Ana Pelaez maintained a comfortable lead over Clara manzilini for Spain to put a third point on the board, and Elena Hualde closed out her match on the 17th hole to earn the Spaniards a spot in the final.
The Spanish team, searching for their sixth championship title, will face defending champions, Sweden in Saturday's final match.

European Ladies' Team Championship - Scotland just lose out to Spain

From the European Golf Association

Ireland were the eight-seeds heading into the quarter-finals at Is Molas Resort meaning they faced top-seeds, Italy, in the opening match. The Irish team was also without star player, Julie Mccarthy, who suffered a wrist injury in the second stroke play round.
After sharing the points in the two morning foursomes matches, Ireland won the first two matches of the afternoon, leaving them just one point away from a spot in the semi-finals. However, the hosting team recovered well to win all of the last three matches. Anna Zanusso secured the winning point for the Italian team with a 3&1 victory over Lauren Walsh.

The second match of the day also went to the wire. Spain and Scotland both won a point in the morning foursomes. The first four singles matches then all went past the 17th hole. Mria Herraez Galvez defeated Hazel MacGarvie on the 20th hole of the match while Teresa Toscano secured a third point for Spain with a two-hole victory.
The Scottish players were leading in the final two matches and the overall score was tied with just a few holes to play, but Ana Pelaez managed to secure a deciding fourth point for Spain with a one-hole victory over Penny Brown. Italy and Spain will go head-to-head on Friday in the first semi-final match.

Brilliant Beveridge crowned 2019 Scottish Women’s Amateur Champion.

Kimberley Beveridge from Aboyne Golf Club worked hard in gusting winds to come out on top against Chloe Goadby in a thrilling Scottish Women’s Amateur Championship Final.
Down by one hole at the half-way point in Sunday’s Final, Beveridge battled back to birdie the first three holes on the back nine to take her first lead of the match at the 12thhole. A par on 13 was enough to give Beveridge a two-hole lead with five to play.
Still 2 up with three holes to play, Beveridge looked in control of the match, however Chloe Goadby refused to back down as she birdied holes 16 and 17 to tie the match with one to play.
With little splitting the two players all day, it was Beveridge’s sensational approach shot on 18 that would separate the pair as her 8-iron from 131 yards stopped just short of the hole to set up the winning putt.

Speaking to Scottish Golf (video above) after winning on the last, Beveridge said, “I struck that last shot really good actually, it landed probably about 20-feet and rolled down nicely to the hole. The nerves kicked in for that two-foot putt, but I just went for the stroke and it went in.”
On being crowned Scottish Women’s Amateur Champion, Beveridge said, “Hearing that sounds really good, I am absolutely buzzing. I didn’t expect it to be honest, I just plodded along and played my own game and came away with the result.”
Beveridge had earlier beaten Tara Mactaggart of Minto Golf Club with a 2&1 Semi Final victory while runner up Goadby reached the Final with a 3&2 victory against Louise Duncan.
The Clark Rosebowl Matchplay brought yet more success for Aberdeenshire golf with Banchory’s Megan Robb seeing off Nairn’s Carinne Taylor by two holes.
Speaking to Scottish Golf, Robb said, “It was difficult today, the conditions are tough and Carinne is a good player. It could have gone either way, going down the last I was nervous, and my hands were shaking. With being 1 up, I just said to myself don’t do anything dumb. I was able to put it on the green and hole my putt which was nice.”
With two players from Aboyne also representing GB & Ireland at the Vagliano Trophies this week, the newly crowned Scottish Women’s Amateur Champion believes women’s golf in the region is in a good place, adding, “It is really strong at the moment and it is good to see some younger girls coming in to the game which is what we need, it is really good.”
