The D&A county AGM and prizegiving took place at Douglas Park golf club on Wednesday 26th October.
Lorna McClymont - Milngavie (County Champion) Fiona Rattray - Douglas Park (Junior Champion) and Jillian Farrell - Cardross were amongst the prize winners.
President Enid Young presented the trophies.

The Royal British Legion is urging golf clubs to fly a poppy pin flag on the 16th hole as part of its Somme 100 commemorations

The Royal British Legion’s ‘Fly the Flag’ initiative is part of a nationwide campaign, ‘Sport Remembers the Somme 1916-2016’, which is calling on sporting organisations, associations, clubs, teams and individuals to commemorate the role played by sportsmen on the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.

Scottish Golf 2017 National Championships

Scottish Golf has announced a number of changes to its national championships following a comprehensive review, with several to come into effect from the start of next season.

The governing body has engaged with players, clubs and other stakeholders to help shape the changes, helping to provide a better platform for the nation’s amateur golfers to perform on while showcasing some of the country’s outstanding courses.

The most significant developments concerns changes to the formats and timing of the major national match play championships, while the Scottish Youths Championship will be removed from the schedule, with the category no longer complimenting the national structure or international amateur calendar.

In line with a number of other countries, the Scottish Boys and Men’s Amateur Championships will change from straight knock-out to 36-hole stroke play qualifying, with the leading 64 players (and ties) reaching the match play stages. The Scottish Boys Championship also moves from its traditional April slot into the school summer holidays, to be played for the first time alongside the Scottish Girls Championship, running concurrently on two neighbouring courses, with Scotscraig and Drumoig named as the 2017 host venues. The boys’ field size will reduce to 180, with the girls at 64.

The Scottish Women’s Amateur Championship will be held at Royal Aberdeen (6 – 10 June) for the first time since former Solheim Cup star Janice Moodie won the event there 25 years ago, while Royal Troon’s Old Course will continue to host the prestigious Helen Holm Scottish Women's Open Stroke Play Championship accompanied by the Troon Portland course.

Also in Ayrshire, Prestwick will be joined by Prestwick St Cuthbert in hosting the stroke play qualifying for the Scottish Men’s Amateur Championship (31 July – 5 Aug) and Western Gailes welcomes the leading male amateurs for the Carrick Neill Scottish Stroke Play Championship in early June.

Like their match play equivalents, the Scottish Boys and Girls Stroke Play Championships will be played on the same dates, moving to the Spring (Easter) holiday slot of 10 - 12 April next year, with Monifieth welcoming the boys and Montrose staging the girls.

WEST OF SCOTLAND'S KYLIE WALKER QUALIFIES AT STAGE 2 LPGA TOUR Q SCHOOL

Three Scots - Kylie Walker, Gemma Dryburgh and Sally Watson finished in the leading 80 and ties at the LPGA Tour Q School Stage 2 event over four rounds at Venice, Florida on Sunday.
They advance to the Final Q SChool at LPGA International, Daytona Beach, Florida, from November 30 to December 4.

Jennifer Rankine loses in play off for Scottish Junior Champion of Champions

Jasmine Mackintosh (Hazelhead) and Jennifer Rankine (Haggs Castle) tied with two-over-par 73s. in the Junior Champion of Champions at the Duke's Course St Andrews yesterday.
Jasmine  birdied the first, 14th and 18th in halves of 37-36. Jennifer birdied the 14th and 17th but bogeyed the eighth, ninth, 10th and 18th in halves of 38-35.
Three players tied for third place on 74 - Louise Duncan (West Kilbride), Kirsten Brown (Strathaven) and Joanne Free (Gullane).

WEST KILBRIDE PAIR MAKE IT TO THE SEMI FINALS OF THE DAILY MAIL FOURSOMES

Many congratulations go to West Kilbride's Catherine Garett and Helen Cattanach on reaching the Semi Finals of the 2016 Daily Mail Foursomes where they were beaten by Grangemouth Golf Club.

Congratulations also go to Scotland's Grangemouth's Janice Bridgeman and Fiona Lawless for battling through the last 16 teams at St. Pierre Golf & Country Club.

Janice and Fiona made there way through the rounds beating Thornhill, Ashburnham and West Kilbride and were finally beaten by Bromborough in the final 3&2.

GREENVILLE, North Carolina – Third-year Kansas State University student Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) from Kilwinning, Ayrshire, took home the Greenville Regional Preview individual title on Tuesday as she led the Kansas State women’s golf team to a third-place finish at the par-72, 6,122-yard Brook Valley Country Club.
Jaffrey, a former Scottish U18 girls champion, with rounds of 71,75 and 73 for an aggregate of three-over-par 219, earned the second individual win of her US college golf career and the 13th individual title in K-State women's golf history. The Wildcats shot a 50-over par 914 for the tournament, finishing one shot back of Augusta for second place and 19 behind team title winners Texas Christian University.
“Connie played exceptionally well on a very difficult course,” said head coach Kristi Knight. “I am very proud of her and this entire team. A top-three finish in this field is great.”

68 ladies representing 25 of the 28 Golf Clubs in the West of Scotland Greenlees teams attended the  2016 Greenlees Trophy presentation and lunch at Cathkin Braes Golf Club today.

Cathkin Braes Lady Captain Joyce Mullin ---- and Greenlees Secretary Anne Dunn presided over the event at which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. Results coordinator on the Web Carol Fell and Cathkin Braes Greenlees Secretary Pauline Wardlaw were also at the top table.

After an excellent lunch and lots of chat Anne Dunn said a few words --

"Once again it is my privilege to welcome you to the Greenlees Presentation Lunch.
The Weather this year, until near the end, was kind to us and the matches were finished on time. It is lovely to see new, and old, names on the trophies and the leagues for next year look interesting I say this as a spectator."

"Going up to the First Division for the first time is always difficult, as Cathcart Castle will tell you but, as I am sure they will also tell you, it was enjoyable. "

"I wish Old Ranfurly and Largs all the very best for next year. I also wish to welcome Prestwick St Nicholas and Cardross back into the Second Division – all the best to you. "
"I wish to thank all the Secretaries for all their hard work and for sending in their results in so quickly. Also to Carol Fell for putting all the details on the web, which allows everybody to keep up to date."

She then asked Cathkin Braes Lady Captain Joyce Mullin to present the trophies.

CONNIE JAFFREY SHARES LEAD IN NORTH CAROLINA

Connie Jaffrey, (Troon Ladies) former Scottish U18 girls champion from Kilwinning, was joint leader at the Greenville Regional Preview women's college tournament at Brook Valley Country Club in North Carolina after an openign round of one-under-par 71 over a 6,133yd course.
She shared the lead at the head of a field of 92 players with Jessica Spicer (Virginia Tech).
Curtis Cup player Alice Hewson from Berkhamsted, a stdent at Clemson University, was T6 with a 76.
Chloe Weir (Kansas State) from Belfast had an 80.
Jessica Carty (Denver), also from Northern Ireland, and Rachel Walker (Old Dominion), from Dumfries, had 81s.
Sophie Newlove (Denver), from Nottingham, had an 8

TROON'S HAZEL MACGARVIE WINS THE 2016 GIRLS MERIT AWARD

Scottish Golf’s Orders of Merit have been finalised with Hannah McCook, Hazel MacGarvie and Sheena Wood winning the respective womens', girls and senior domestic titles for 2016.

Troon’s Hazel MacGarvie has won the 2016 girls’ merit award  with 902 points from four events, ahead of Jasmine Mackintosh from Hazlehead on 834, and Gullane’s Joanne Free on 759 who pipped Shannon McWilliam (Aboyne) by one point.

She said: “I am delighted to win the Girls’ Order of Merit especially since I didn't play in many counting events. I think this season has been successful. I really just wanted to do the best I could bearing in mind I was sitting my Highers, my last one not being until the beginning of June.”

The 17 year-old’s season included winning all six of her matches at the Home Internationals, and she even squared a match with Thomas Pieters in practice ahead of the Open Championship. But it was her victory in the weather-disrupted Scottish Girls Amateur Championship which was key in topping the girls’ Order.

“I was really pleased to win the Scottish Girls, particularly finishing on three under and then going onto win with an eagle at the par four first. Next year I just want to continue to improve my game.”

Gillian Paton wins Champion of Champions and Kilmacolm's Eilidh Briggs is the runner up

Angus women's champion Gillian Paton (Royal Montrose) finished four strokes clear at the top of a field of 13 in the Scottish women's champion of champions' tournament over 18 holes at Glasgow Gailes Golf Club today.

Mrs Paton had contrasting halves of three-over 39 and Sree-under 32 for a par round of 71.

She bogeyed the fourth, fifth and seventh before birdieing the 10th, 17th and 18th.

Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm) was runner-up with a 75 (37-38) and Joanne Free (Gullane) third with a 76 (39-37).

Katie Scott wins the West Girls Championship at Troon Portland

The West Girls Championship Final was played yesterday over the Troon Portland in beautiful sunshine.
The Final was between Lanarkshire County Team player Katie Scott and D&A'S County Champion Lorna McClymont.
Both girls played the front nine very well with Katie only 1 over par at the turn and 2 up.
Lorna was 2 over par.

Katie then birdied 10th with a fantastic 2 to go 3up which seemed to be the turning point of the game. Katie then played very steady over the next 3 holes and won each hole to finally win the trophy.

In the Bronze Championship the match went to the 19th with Taylor White from Cathkin Braes beating Sophie Kyle from Whitecraigs

SCOTLAND LOSE TO IRELAND ON DAY 3 OF THE SENIOR HOME INTERNATIONALS

England are the Senior Women's Home Internationals title winners for the 10th time since the tournament started in 2003. They completed a 100 per cent winning week at Alyth Golf Club, Perthshire by beating Wales 5.5-2.5 to win the Sue Johnson Trophy for the third year in a row.
Ireland beat Scotland 6-2 in today's other match on a very windy day. That meant that Ireland, Scotland and Wales finished with 1point apiece. After a countback involving further 3 stages, European champions Ireland were declared the runners-up.

SCOTLAND WIN AGAINST WALES ON DAY 1 OF SENIOR HOME INTERNATIONALS

Scotland scored their first win for at least two years in the Senior Ladies Home Internationals at Alyth Golf Club, Perthshire today, beating Wales 5-3 in their first match after losing all three 12 months ago.
The Scots took a 2-1 edge from the morning foursomes and added three more points with wins by Gillian Kyle (2 and 1 over Denise Richards), Lesley Lloyd (2 and 1 against Olwen Davies) and Fiona De Vries (2 and 1 against Sharon Roberts).
Wales' two winners in the singles were Jane Rees, who beat Sheena Wood 3 and 2 n the lead-off tie, and former Senior British champion Ann Lewis, a 3 and 2 winner over Lorna McKinlay.
All square at the turn, Rees went two up on Wood by winning the 10th and 13th. The Scot won the 14th to be only one down but Rees took the 15th and 16th for the match.
Kyle was one up at the turn against Richards and went up at the 12th. Richards rallied to win the 13th to be only one down but halves at the 14th and 15th gave Kyle some breathing space and the Scot won the 16th and halved the 17th for a 2 and 1 win, her second of the day.
McKinlay was two up after nine against Lewis but the Welsh player went to town on the inward half, winning the 11th and 12th to square the contest and then taking the 13th, 14th and 16th for a 3 and 2 victory.
Lloyd won the sixth, 10th and 12th for a two-hole lead over Davies. The Scot then won the 14th to be three up. Davies won the 15th to be two down with three to play but she ran out of holes as Lloyd won on the 17th green.
Roberts won the ninth and 10th to square her match against De Vries. The next three holes were halved before De Vries edged ahead again by winning the 14th.
The 15th was halved. Then De Vries won the 16th to be dormie and she won by 2 and 1 to clinch Scotland's 5-3 victory.
European senior champions Ireland came a cropper in their bid to take the home title out of England's grasp. England won 5.5-2.5, taking the foursomes by a 2pt margin and the singles 3-1.
Scotland, who lost all three matches 12 months ago, beat Wales 5-3 on a day that started wet but turned bright and very breezy by lunchtime.
England's singles winners were Julie Brown (by 4 and 3 against Mary Sheehy), Katherine Russell (by 2 and 1 over Maria O'Reilly) and Jackie Foster (by 5 and 4 against Irish senior champion Gertie McMullen).
Wickham set the ball rolling for England in the afternoon with a flying start which saw her win four of the first seven holes, losing only the sixth, and then the 11th to see her lead cut to two holes by Catherine Rawthore.
Holes 12 to 17 were halved, leaving Wickham the winner.
Last year's Senior British champion Julie Brown lost the third to Mary Sheehy but then won four in a row for a three-hole lead. Sheehy won the eighth and ninth to be only one down at the turn. Brown won the 12th, 13th and 15th for victory.
The Russell v O'Reilly was the last match to finish. The English player was two up at the turn after winning the eighth and ninth, then the 11th for a three-hole lead. O'Reilly hit back with wins at the 12th and 13th. Three halves holes followed before Russell clinched a 2 and 1 win by taking the 17th.
New Senior British champion Laura Webb was in impressive form against Karen Jobling. The Berkshire-based Iris player lost the second hole but won the next five to be four up at the turn. Webb added the 10th to her collection for a five-hole lead.
Jobling stopped the rot by winning the 11th and 12th but there was no holding Webb in this form. She won the 13th and 14th for the match.
Ireland's Gertie McMullen does not lose many matches by 5 and 4 but she did this afternoon with Jackie Foster her conqueror.
There was no hint of the eventual margin of victory when Foster turned with a one-hole lead but the English player slipped up a gear to take the 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th for victory.

SCOTLAND WIN FOURSOMES AGAINST WALES

Scotland gained a 2-1 lunchtime lead over Wales after the morning foursomes on the first day of the Senior Women's Home Internationals at Alyth Golf Club, Perthshire.
Title-holders lead European champions Ireland 2.5-0.5 after a morning which started wet and miserable but brightened nearer lunchtime although a half-gale replaced the wind.

The 1st Division Title decider of the West of Scotland 2016 Greenlees Trophy was played yesterday (Thursday 22nd September) in the rearranged match between Ranfurly Castle and Milngavie 
Milngavie who produced an exceedingly formidable team -- with Scottish Girls Internationalist Jillian Farrell, Lorna McClymont (D&A County Champion) and Renfrewshire County Team Carol Whyte leading the field and five of the remaining six team players having a handicap of 8 and under  came up trumps with a 6.5 - 2.5 win.
The result meant that Milngavie won the division with 50.5 points and Ranfurly Castle and Kilmarnock Barassie were equal with 44 points.
On count back with Home and Away wins --  2 points for a home win and 3 points for an Away win Ranfurly Castle just won the runners up slot by 1 point

WEST KILBRIDE OUTING TO KILMACOLM

The occasion was West Kilbride Ladies Committee and Past Captains' outing. It was a beautiful sunny morning which was asking for a picture! Some of the ladies had started their round but Nancy Chisholm along with past captains Joan McGlynn, Eileen Atkinson, Janette Mair, Janice Gallagher and Alison Baillie were waiting at the tee so captured them. We all had a lovely day, Kilmacolm is such an interesting, challenging course which I always enjoy.
