GREEENLEES LUNCH AND TROPHY PRESENTATION

Milngavie, Cathkin Braes, Loudoun Gowf and Cathcart Castle with the Trophies

The 72nd Greenlees Lunch and Presentation of Trophies was held at Williamwood Golf Club today.

Gill Unick  (Williamwood Greenlees Secretary) organised the event and was helped on the day by next years Williamwood Greenlees Secretary Christine Leitch

Most of the clubs from the 3 divisions within the Greenlees Trophy (55 ladies) were represented and what a great celebration they all had.
They were welcomed warmly by Williamwood's Jinty Roger who was standing in for the Lady Captain Lesley Forsyth. On arrival everyone received a complementary glass of wine and after an excellent grace by Anne Dunn a beautiful lunch was had by all.

It is a great pleasure to have been invited to Williamwood for our annual lunch and Presentation of prizes.   This day takes more organizing than I thought with a lot of people behind the scenes doing the hard work.  There are a number of people to thank for making this event happen.

FIRSTLY: I wish to thank Jinty Roger, for taking the time to join us for lunch today and for her very kind words of welcome

SECONDLY: I would like to thank the Club Captain and the committee for allowing us to hold the function here and for their generous gift of wine on our arrival.

THIRDLY: Gill and her assistant Christine and without them this lunch would have never taken place and I owe a great debt to Gill for her advice and organizational skills.
The beautiful floral arrangements on the tables are also due to Gill.   May I ask her to pass on to the chef and his staff our thanks for a beautiful meal.

FOURTHLY: I would like to pass on your thanks to Carol Fell for taking the photographs today.   I am always amazed that Carol has the time to be at all the functions she attends and all the jobs she manages to do.   I intend to ask her how she manages to get more than twenty-four hours into her day.   If I get an answer I will let you know – I think we could all make use of the advice.

Cathcart Castle had a very good season with a score of 47 points this moves them up to the 2^nd Division for the first time since 1985

Bothwell Castle were second in the league with 46.9 points and I am sure they are looking forward to playing the 2^nd Division next year

DIVISION 2

It was only last year that Fiona commented on the spectacular achievement of Loudoun Gowf winning the third division with an amazing score and now I have to do the same.   Well done Loudon for winning the second Division with a score of 58.5 points

Also well done to Haggs Castle who were runners up with a score of 45.5.

What a division 1 we will have next year.

Another hard fought division.   Milngavie came out the winners with 49 points with the runners up Cathkin Braes on 45.

There is no further accolade which can be given to Milngavie – winners for the fourth year in succession.   I await with interest to see next year’s results but in the meantime very well done Anna and her team what a great win

WINDS IN CRETE REDUCE THE CHAMPIONSHIP TO 18 HOLES

For the second day in a row, no play was possible today in the Crete Women's Open golf championship due to 50mph winds sweeping across the Greek island.
The scheduled 54-hole tournament may come down to 18 holes on Tuesday - if the wind drops.
Scots among the field waIting to play in this Ladies European Tour developmental circuit event are Pamela Pretswell, Katy McNicoll, Gemma Webster, Pamela Feggans and Kelsey MacDonald.
Curtis Cup stars of the victory over the Americans at Nairn last June, Holly Clyburn and Kelly Tidy, are set to make their debuts as professionals.
A third Curtis Cup team member, teenager Charley Hull, is also among the entries. She is still an amateur.

CAN PAMELA PRETSWELL FINISH ON TOP

With just two events remaining on the 2012 LET Access Series schedule, it will be a fight to the finish to top of the Order of Merit. West of Scotland’s Pamela Pretswell is currently 2,327 points ahead of Frenchwomen Marion Ricordeau, who had held the leading place on the Order of Merit for the majority of the season.

Ricordeau’s points have been boosted by a win at the season opener Terre Blanche Ladies Open in France, while Pretswell claimed the Ljungybed Park PGA Ladies Open in May. They are followed in third place by Norway’s Cecilie Lundgreen, this year’s only double-winner so far, with the Kristianstad Ahus Ladies Open and Women’s Bank Open titles to her name.

The Crete Ladies Open, which takes place from the 28 - 30 October and the Banesto Tour Valencia in November will both award 5,000 points to the winners, meaning the Order of Merit winner could come from outside the current top three. At the end of the season, the top three players on the Order of Merit following the final event will be offered cards on the Ladies European Tour for the 2013 season, whilst players in 4th – 15th will advance to final stage of Tour school, which takes place at Amelkis Golf Club & Al Maaden Golf Resort in Morocco from the 13 - 17 December.

After the weather caused the event to be cancelled on 30 September, the re-arranged SLGA Adult and Girl Foursomes took place today (Sunday 21 October ) at East Renfrewshire Golf Club.  Father and daughter pairing, Erin Johnston and Alex Johnston from Lanark were the winners of the title with 41 stableford points and Lauren Barbour and Patricia Davidson from Erskine were runners up with 36 points

EILIDH BRIGGS IS THE 2012 CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS

A field of 12 ladies’ contested the season ending Champion of Champions at Glasgow Gailes Golf Club today (Sunday 14th October 2012.)
The weather was extremely kind, dry and cold, with very little wind to test the players.
Those in the field may have been few in number but of very high quality with several of them winning multiple qualifying events for the Champion of Champions.
 Despite good scoring conditions there were only 2 players to break 80 and the CSS went to 78. Despite a triple bogey 7 at the 2nd hole last year’s Champion Kilmacolm's Eilidh Briggs (West of Scotland Champion and University Champion) prevailed once again with the same score as last year a 75.
Renfrewshire County Champion Alyson McKechin (Elderslie) was runner up with a 78.

WEST OF SCOTLAND GIRLS - Connie Jaffrey is champ again

Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) retained the West Of Scotland Girls Championship title at Troon Portland on Sunday 7th October, defeating clubmate Katie McGarva in the final.

McGarva overcame Linsey Stevenson to reach the final whilst Jaffrey defeated Emma Hale in the last four.

In the Bronze final, Mollie Richmond (Strathaven) defeated clubmate Katie Scott on the 18th green in the final. Semi finalists were Niahn Kinney and Erin Johnston.

Team Captain Anna Telfer is  absolutely delighted, naturally. She said "It's been a superb team effort and we have had to fight to the very last match yet again."

EMMA RAISES MORE MONEY FOR BREAKTHROUGH BREAST CANCER

Emma Wilson with her cheque for Breakthough Breast Cancer 

Past SLGA President Emma Wilson who was caddying at the Senior Home Internationals at Elie Golf Club was delighted to have raised £551 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer by creating and receiving donations for her heather sprays. 

She says "Thank you all very much. I know that Breakthrough Breast Cancer will be delighted especially as October is breast cancer month to go PINK."

Well we went Purple instead.

The Scottish Team were  delighted for Emma and her efforts towards Breakthrough Breast Cancer and said  - "What a super amount you have raised, and just a tremendous reward for all your long hours creating the heather sprays and for encouraging all the purple support at Elie..  How good was it to see so many with their purple heather! "

All the Ladies of Elie & Earlsferry  were so friendly and indeed the men we came across the same, and just made us feel so welcome.. So I'm sure everybody would go home remembering Elie as a wonderful venue, and a great golf course as well.

Thanks again and well done to you!

The Elie ladies were also full of praise of everyone and they just thought that hosting the event was fantastic.

Over and above the £551 raised, Emma has also now raised £6,922 for Breakthough Breast Cancer  with her pink sock campaign !!

NEW DATE FOR SLGA ADULT-GIRL FOURSOMES

The SLGA adult-girl foursomes competition has been rearranged for Sunday, October 21 at East Renfrewshire Golf Club.
The tournament was washed out on its scheduled date, Sunday, September 30.
"We are asking if those in the original draw can contact us either by phone 01738 442357 or email a.melvin-ffinch@slga.co.uk to let us know their availability for the new date," said Antonia Melvin-Ffinch of the SLGA.
"The draw will be the same with amendments as necessary due to inevitable cancellations

CONNIE JAFFREY IS THE WEST OF SCOTLAND GIRLS CHAMPION

Connie Jaffrey(Troon Ladies) continued a very successful season by becoming the West Of Scotland Girls Champion for 2012. Great scoring over Troon Portland on Sunday guaranteed her victory against Katie McGarva(Troon Ladies) . In the Bronze Championship, Molly Richmond (Strathaven) defeated Katie Scott(Strathaven) on the 18th green.

PAMELA PRETSWELL NOW TOPS THE LETAS ORDER OF MERIT

Only four months after helping Great Britain and Ireland to a memorable Curtis Cup victory over the United States at Nairn, Pamela Pretswell from Hamilton has virtually clinched a place on next year's Ladies European Tour.
Second place in the Azores Open at the weekend lifted Pretswell into the lead of the Ladies European Tour Access Series' Order of Merit.
The top three in the table at the end of the season - there are only two more events to go - will leapfrog over the LET Qualifyihng School, to be held in Morocco in December, and gain automatic playing rights on the full Ladies European Tour.
Pretswell has 19,372 points to her credit, more than 2,000 ahead of second-placed Marion Ricordeau (France) (17,045).
Katy McNicoll (Carnoustie) is in fourth place with 14,070pt. If she can climb above third-placed Cecilie Lundgren (Norway) (14,256) over the final two LETAS events of the season she will be promoted to the Big League alongwith Pretswell.

STRATHMORE GIRL'S REPEAT GLENEAGLES WIN

Linlithgow's Cameron McAndrew and Kirsty Brodie (Strathmore) won the respective boys' and girls' titles at the Highland Spring Junior Masters Grand Final over the Queen's Course, Gleneagles.
For 12-year-old Kirsty it was a repeat of last year's success when, playing off 13, she scored 40 Stableford points. Twelve months later, Kirsty, with her handicap down to 10, won the girls' top award with 39pt - three more than joint runners-up Julie Smith (Murrayfield), Eva O'Connor (Bothwell Castle) and Andrea Walker (Falkirk).
Cameron McAndrew, playing off 12, totalled 42pt in the boys' section, winning by two clear points from Samuel Yule (Ballater) and Michael Baber (Hopeman.
Finlay McPherson (Royal Aberdeen) came fourth with 37pt.

Carnoustie's Katy McNicoll dropped to joint sixth after sharing the lead overnight and Pamela Pretswell (Bothwell Castle), pictured, took over as the leading Scot, in second place with one round to to in the Azores Ladies Open golf championship at Furnas golf course, Sao Miguel Island. McNicoll slumped from an opening 73 to an 81, which included a triple bogey 7 at the eight in an outward 42, for 154. Pretswell reeled off 16 pars and two bogeys in a 74 for 149 - two shots behind the leader, Italy's Anna Rossi (73-74), who won the British women's open amateur stroke-play title at Prince's in 2006. PHIL WYLLIE - Ayrshire ladies Honorary President passes away

Golfers throughout the county and beyond will be saddened to learn that Ayrshire Ladies County Golf Association Honorary President Mrs Phyllis Wylie passed away on Wednesday 3rd October, just a few weeks after her 101st birthday.

  Phyllis Wade Wylie, tnown to many simply as 'Phil' had the distinction of being the oldest surviving Curtis Cup team player, having played for Great Britain and Ireland against the United States in the fourth Curtis Cup match at Essex County Club, Massachussets in 1938, having been first reserve in attendance for the third Curtis Cup match in 1936 at Gleneagles.

In 1939, Phyllis Wade married a Scot, Surgeon-Capt J I Wylie who was a naval officer, and settled in Troon where she lived for many years. During the 2008 Curtis Cup match at the Old Course, St Andrews, Phil fulfilled an ambition when she entered the hallowed Royal & Ancent clubhouse to attend the Past Curtis Cup Players’ Dinner and was able to hold the Curtis Cup.

 Amongst her many golfing successes, she was English women’s amateur champion as Phl Wade in 1934 and 1936 and was Hampshire county champion in 1933, 1935, 1937 and 1938, playing regularly in international matches against France from 1934 until 1949.
On a tour of Australia and New Zealand with a Great Britain team in 1935, Phil teamed up with Mrs Greenlees to win the New Zealand women's foursomes.

After settling in Scotland, Phil won the Ayrshire Ladies County Championship in 1954. A keen supporter of golf at all levels, Phil Wylie was honoured by the Ayrshire Ladies a number of years ago, being elected the Honorary President of the Ayrshire Ladies County Golf Association.

Survived by her only son Ian, Phil Wylie's passing ends a local link with the premier team event in ladies amateur golf, and sincere sympathy is extended to Phil's family and friends from The Ayrshire Golf Association at this sad time

SCOTLAND 3RD AND IRELAND ARE THE CHAMPIONS

Scotland slumped to their heaviest ever 7-1 defeat at the hands of Ireland as the team from the Emerald Isle romped to their first ever title in the Senior Women's Home Internationals at Elie today.
Ireland were the pre-tournament favourites for the title on the strength of their bronze medals performance in the European senior womens championships in Switzerland several weeks ago. And they lived up to their star billing.
They were almost in a different league from defending champions England (beat them 6-2), Wales (beat them 5-3) and Scotland (beat them 7-1) with Ireland's Carol Wickham, the MVP of the tournament. She was the only player from any country to end up with six wins out of six.
Scotland, a little bit unlucky to go down heavily to England on Wednesday, had no such excuses in crashing 5-0 in the singles against the rampant Irish.
Scotland's top player over the three days was Fifer Lorna Bennett (Ladybank) with 3pt out of a possible six.

IRELAND WIN FOURSOMES - DAY 3 AT THE HOME INTERNATIONALS

Ireland are still on course to win the Senior Home Internationals for the first time with a 100 per cent record through the three days at Elie. But they had to come from behind to take a 2-1 foursomes lead over Scotland.
England led Wales 2-1 at lunchtime in the other match.
Sheena McElroy and Carol Wickham put the first point on the board for the Irish with a 7 and 6 win over Heather Anderson and May Hughes. The Irish pair won the first hole but it was their great run from the fourth to the ninth, during which they won five of the six holes, that proved decisive.
The Scots did not win a hole. They went seven down on the 11th and a half at the next hole ended the lopsided contest.
Scotland levelled it at 1-1 when Lorna Bennett and Alison Bartlett beat Suzanne Corcoran and Kate Evans by 4 and 3. The Scots lost the second but then won the third, fourth, seventh and eighth to be three up. Corcoran and Evans won back the ninth to be two down at the turn.
After four halved holes in succession, Scotland suddenly had the match won with back-to-back gains at the 14th and 15th.
Scotland's sisters, Mary Smith and Anne Ryan, looked set to give their side the lunchtime lead when they won the 11th with a par 3 to be three up on the Irish stalwart pair of Helen Jones and Pat Doran. But the latter snatched victory from the jaws of defeat with a great inward half during which they won the 14th and 15th and then the par-5 17th with an eagle 3, thanks to a huge putt from Doran.
Down the last, the Irish recovery carried them to victory with Smith and Ryan taking three putts to get down from the "Valley of Sin" in front of the 18th green for a bogey 5 while while Jone and Doran two-putted from the back of the green for a winning par 4.

Ireland, 5-3 winners over Wales today (Wed), are the only team with a 100 % record going into the final day of the Senior Home International matches at Elie and Earlsferry Fife. Only Scotland, beaten 6 1/2-1 1/2 by England, stand between the Irish and a first ever seven-a-side title.
Even a draw against the mercurial Scots would be enough to clinch the over-50s title for Ireland who won the bronze medal in the recent European senior women's championships in Switzerland.
Ireland made a 3-0 clean sweep of the foursomes for the second day in a row but the fighting Welsh took them down a peg by winning the singles 3-2.
The England v Scotland match was closer than the final scoreline of 6 1/2-1 1/2 in favour of the English would suggest.
Scotland won the first foursome and were ahead in the other two but went in at lunchtime trailing 2-1. Of the five singles, three went to the 18th green and the two others ended at the 17th.
Chris Quinn put England ahead 3-1 by beating Alison Bartlett 2 and 1 in the lead-off singles. Bartlett had the better of the outward half and was two up three times within the first eight holes. But Quinn won the ninth, 12th and 13th to lead for the first time.
Five of the last six holes were halved but Quinn went to up at the 16th.
Caroline Berry ensured that England could not be beaten by delivering the fourth point, courtesy of a 2 and 1 win over Lorna Bennett. Betty was three up after five holes and though Bennett got her deficit back to one hole after eighth she could down get the gains after that. Nine of the last 10 holes were halved with Berry going two up by winning the 13th.
Scotland's Heather Anderson was three up after six holes, having won three in a row from the fourth, against Barbara Laird who fell four down when she lost the eighth. That was the high point for Anderson. Laird won the ninth, 14th, 15th and 16th to square the match and the last two holes were halved.
Felicity Christine beat Fiona De Vries by one hole in a match of two halves. Christine won five holes in a row from the third and was five up after 10. Then De Vries took over the driving seat. She won the 11th, 12th, 14th and 15th to be one down with three to play.
Christine held the rallying Scot at bay by halving the lat three holes.
Rozalyn Adams beat Mary Smith by two holes after leading for the first time at the 17th and also winning the 18th. Smith had been two up after two and still two up after seven but Adams finished the stronger.

 England lost the first foursome to Scotland by a big margin and trailed in the two other ties at one stage but the defending champions pulled through to lead 2-1 at lunchtime.

Lorna Bennett and Fiona De Vries combined well to put the first Wednesday point on the board for Scotland. They beat Chris Quinn and Amanda Mayne by 5 and 4 after being three up at the turn, thanks to gains at the fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth. The Scots were four up by winning the 10th and, after three halved holes, clinched victory some way from home by winning the 14th for a five-hole lead.

Roz Adams and Barbara Laird levelled matters overall by beating sisters Mary Smith and Anne Ryan by one hole. The English pair took the lead for the first time by winning the ninth to square and the 11th to go one up. Mary Smith and Anne Ryan retaliated by winning the 12th and 13th for a one-hole lead. But the English pair finished very strongly to win the 14th and 15th for a one-hole advantage. Mary and Anne won the 16th to be all square but after a half at the 17th Roz Adams rolled a long putt up to within inches of the hole for England to win the 18th and the match by the narrowest of margins.

Janet Melville and Felicity Christine put England in for lunch with a 2-1 lead by beating Heather Anderson and Alison Bartlett by one hole. The English pair twice held a two-hole lead on the outward journey but the Scots squared the match by winning the eighth and 10th and went one up for the first time by taking the 12th. Melville and Christine dominated the closing holes by winning the 14th (all square), then the 16th (one up) and also the 18th where the Scots went out of bounds over the back of the green.

The Thumbs Up --  Scotland are Winners against Wales

 Scotland made a good start to the senior women's home golf internationals at Elie and Earlsferry, Fife today . They beat Wales 5-3 and now face England whose hopes of retaining the title were mortally wounded when Ireland beat them for the first time in this series which started in 2003.

Ireland have never won the over-50s title but this 6-2 win makes them hot favourites to break their duck.Two North players made huge contributions to the Scotland effort.

Alison Bartlett (Royal Dornoch), who did not play in the morning foursomes which were shared 1 1/2-1 1/2 against Wales, came off the bench to beat the legendary Vicki Thomas by 4 and 3 after winning the first three holes.Then, with the overall matched poised at 4-3 in Scotland's favour but Wales hoping to win the last match to salvage a draw, Tain's Mary Smith rose to the occasion to beat the experienced Jane Rees by one hole.
 Scotland play England on the second day with the prospects of a backlash performance by the well beaten English a strong possibility. Ireland play Wales and should pick up another win before they meet Scotland in Thursday's final programme DAY 1

SCOTLAND DRAW WITH WALES ON DAY 1 OF THE MORNING FOURSOMES OF THE SENIOR HOME INTERNATIONALS

Wales' lead-off pairing of Ann Lewis and Vicki Thomas won the last two holes to snatch a square match against Scotland's Lorna Bennett and Fiona De Vries who, after an fairly even outward half, had taken the lead for the first time by winning the 11th and were still one up on the 17th tee.

Scotland got their morning point with a 2 and 1 win by Heather Anderson and May Hughes over Patricia Fernon and Christine Harries. The Irish pair had the better of the outward half and when they won the seventh and eighth they went two up. Heather Anderson and May Hughes turned their fortunes around by winning the ninth to be only one down and then took three holes in a row from the 12th to jump into a two-hole lead. Three halves in succession completed the Scots' victory.

Jane Rees and Denise Richards levelled the scoreline for Wales by beating sisters Mary Smith and Anne Ryan by two holes. The Welsh pair looked to be heading for an early finish when they went four up after 10 holes but three halves in row stopped the rot for the Scots and when they won the 14th, 15th and 16th to be only one down on the 17th tee, they were on the verge of salvaging at least a square match. But it was not to be. After a half at the 17th, Rees and Richards won the last hole.

SCOTS GIRLS JOINT 30TH FINISH IN TURKEY

Scotland's Sally Watson (Elie and Earlsferry), Laura Murray (Alford) and Kilmacolm's Eilidh Briggs finished joint 30th as a team in a field of 53 countries at the women's world amateur team golf championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy at Gloria Golf Club, Antalya in Turkey. The Scots lost a lot of ground on the leading teams in Thursday's first round and though they steadied up after that they never looked like getting into contention and, with a total of 593, finished behind England (jt 13th on 579, Ireland (jt 15th on 580) and Wales (23rd on 588). South Korea retained the world title with a 13-under-par total of 563. Germany (566) were second. Finland and Australia (both 567), were joint third. Lydia Ko, 15-year-old New Zealander of South Korea extraction, consolidated her position as the world No 1 in women's amateur golf by winning the individula title by six shotrs with a 14-under-par total of 274. She had scores of 70, 69, 67 and 68. Sally Watson, a student at Stanford University, California, was Scotland's best individual, finishing joint 29th on 290 with scores of 77, 70, 72 and 71, which put her ahead of three members of GB and I's winning Curtis Cup team at Nairn -  British amateur champion Stephanie Meadow (Ireland) on 292, Charley Hull (England) on 293 and Amy Boulden (Wales) on 307 Scottish champion Laura Murray came joint 80th on 306 with scores of 80, 76, 75 and 75. Eilidh Briggs shot 77, 78, 77 and 77 for a share of 100th place on 307. Title-holders South Korea lead with an 11-under-par total of 421, five ahead of New Zealand's world No 1 female amateur 15 year old Lydia Ko leads the individual standings with a 10-under-par tally of 206 (70-69-67).

SCOTLAND IMPROVE ON THE SECOND DAY IN TURKEY

Sally Watson, with a two-under-par 70, spearheaded an improved performance by Scotland on the second day of the women's world amateur team golf championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy at Gloria Golf Club, Antalya in Turkey. The Scots shaved eight shots off their first-round team aggregate with a tally of 146 but they are still well down the standings - joint 34th in a field of 53 teams -  with a halfway total of 12-over-par 280. South Korea have opened up a five-shot lead with a 36-hole sccore of 280. Germany, Canada, Japan, Australia and New Zealand are disputing second place. England, in a share of 10th place on 288, are the best placed of the GB and I teams. Sally Watson, originally from South Queensferry but now a student at Stanford University, California with the family home now at Elie, Fife. Watson bogeyed the first but, having got her bad hole of out the way, she covered the remaining 17 holes in three under par, thanks to birdies at the seventh, 11th and short 15th. A 70 represented an improvement of seven shots and she is joint 38th on 147 - eight shots off the pace being set by world No 1, 15-year-old Lydia Ko (70-69), a New Zealander of South Korean extraction, and Hyo-Joo Kim (72-67), who lives in South Korea. Scotland's second counting score was a 76 by national champion Laura Murray (Alford), which was four shots better than she achieved in the first round. Laura struggled to the turn in 40 but highlighted an inward 36 with her only birdie of the day at the short 12th. Murray is lying joint 103rd in the individual standings with a 156 tally. Stirling student Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm) had a non-counting 78 which included a double bogey 6 at the 10th and a solitary birdie at the 18th. Eilidh Briggs is joint 98th on 155. SCOTLAND'S TRIO MAKE LOW KEY START IN TURKEY

Scotland's trio of national champion Laura Murray (Alford), California student Sally Watson (Elie and Earlsferry) and Kilmacolm's Eilidh Briggs made a low-key start to the women's world amateur team golf championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy in Turkey today (Thursday). The two par-72 courses at Gloria Golf Club, Antalya were used. Eilidh and Sally had 77s apiece while Laura returned an 80. All three played their opening round of the 72-hole stroke-play championship over the No 2 course. Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm) had birdies at the third and eighth but cancelled them out with a double bogey 5 at the short seventhy and other shots dropped at the first, fourth, 11th, 15th and 18th. Watson did not have any birdies. She played the par-3 holes badly, running up a double bogey 5 at the short seventh and 4s at the short 10th and short 15th. She also bogeyed the 15th. Murray also had a birdie-less day in the sunshine. She had a double bogey 5 at the short second and single shots dropped at the first, third, fifth,12th, 14th and 15th. The Scots were not alone in their disappointment. Curtis Cup star Amy Boulden (Conwy), the Welsh champion and Helen Holm Trophy winner at Troon this year, marked up a nine-over-par 81 while England's Charley Hull had a 75 and top-10 world ranked Georgia Hall a 76. Leading the field are Sweden's Daniela Holmqvist (Sweden) with a three-under 69 on the Gloria No 1 course and Becky Harries (Wales) with a three-under 69 on the No 2 course. ANGUS WOMEN ARE FIRST TIME CHAMPIONS OF SCOTLAND

Angus women's golf team are the new champions of Scotland.
The team of eight, captained by Mary Summers, won the Scottish women's county championship finals at Montrose Links today (Sunday).
They beat defending champions Midlothian 6 1/2-2 1/2 in the title-deciding encounter between the only two 100 per cent teams after two days' play.
After the morning foursomes were shared, it was the young Angus team who rose to the challenge in the singles and surprisingly outfought their older and more experienced opponents to the tune of 5-1.
Carnoustie Ladies' Jessica Meek set the ball rolling Angus's way when she beat Gabrielle MacDonald 6 and 4.
Then Angus county champion Ailsa Summers (Carnoustie Ladies) won the top singles match against international player Jane Turner by 2 and 1. Ailsa, daughter of the team captain, finished the match in the grand manner - with an eagle 3 at the 17th.
Heather Munro (Monifieth) chalked up another point for Angus with a 3 and 2 win over former international Claire Hargan.
Kirriemuir's Ann Ramsay was the "MVP" of the tournament, winning all six ties in which she played. She scored her sixth win at the expense of Louise Fraser, beating her by 2 and 1.
Then Gemma Chalmers (Monifieth) beat Wendy Nicholson by one hole.
Midlothian's crumb of comfort came in a one hole win by Karen Marshall over Monifieth's Rebecca Wilson.

"It was a wonderful display by a wonderful team," said skipper Mary Summers. "They were a wee bit nervous on the opening morning but gained in confide6nce with every session of play until they finished the tournament like the champions they are."
The Scottish county finals are contested by the divisional champions of the North, South, East and West.
Earlier this summer, Angus, fielding a team with an average age of 21, beat Perth and Kinross, Aberdeenshire and Northern Counties to win the Northern Division title.
One member of that Angus team was not able to play in the finals - Claire Penman who is still ill after being badly bitten by insects while on holiday in America.
Her place in the team was filled by Jackie Brown (Monfieith).
Renfrewshire beat Dumfries-shire 6-3 in the other match on the final day to finish third behind champions Angus and runners-up Midlothian.

RENFREWSHIRE LOSE TO MIDLOTHIAN ON DAY 2 OF THE COUNTY FINALS AT MONTROSE

Angus will play title-holders Midlothian in the deciding match of the Scottish women's county golf championship finals at Montrose links tomorrow
The young Angus team - average age only 21 - followed up their 5-4 Friday win over Renfrewshire by beating Dumfries-shire 6 1/2-2 1/2 today.
Midlothian also scored their second win in two days, beating Renfrewshire 6-3.

The end of season Ranfurly Castle Greenlees Team outing took place yesterday at Dundonald Links in glorious sunshine.
After the awful weather on Thursday we all thought the course would be rather wet. However, it was dry and with greens lightening fast, and difficult borrows all the players struggled to score well.
 The team of Lesley Robertson, Carol Fell and Fiona Roger were the best of a bad bunch !! A lovely meal was then had at Northern Gailes and there was much chat and hilarity.

The final match in Division 1 is the rearranged tie between Kilmacolm and Milngavie and Milngavie need 5.5 points from the match to win the division from Cathkin Braes for the 4th year in a row...

Kilmacolm has had an exceedingly depleted team at the end of this season and are definitely relegated.
Troon and West Kilbride is the other match that will decide who will also be relegated.

Loudon Gowf have won the 2nd Division.

RENFREWSHIRE LOSE TO ANGUS ON DAY 1 AT MONTROSE

REPORT FROM RENFREWSHIRE CAPTAIN MAUREEN WOODHEAD FROM MONTROSE:

The weather forecast was fine.....  That was the case for the morning although the wind was up.  In the afternoon the wind died – so the rain decided to put in an appearance and the temperature dropped significantly.  Nevertheless, the Renfrewshire team carried on regardless.

In the morning foursomes the Angus pairing of Ann Ramsay & Jessica Meek were first off and beat Renfrewshire’s Donna Jackson & Liz Stewart 3&1.  Angus’ Ashley Smith and Heather Munro could not put a foot wrong and beat Alyson McKechin and debut girl Iona Stephen 7 & 6.  It was left for Linsey Stevenson & Carol Whyte to save the day and make lunch more palatable by beating Ailsa Summers and Rebecca Wilson by one hole.  All to play for in the afternoon.

Alyson McKechin beat Jessica Meek 2&1, Linsey Stevenson lost to an on form Ann Ramsay 4 & 3, Carol Whyte won 3 & 2 against Jemma Chalmers (another holed second shot by Carol on the 10^th!!), Donna Jackson was beaten 3&1 by Heather Munro,  Liz Stewart had an agonising defeat by one hole to Rebecca Wilson and Gillian Kyle beat Ailsa Summers by one hole.  Angus won the day 5 – 4.

Tomorrow’s weather has to be better...... 

Megan Briggs was unable to play today due to work commitments but she and the rest of the team are raring to go again tomorrow against defending champions Midlothian.

FIONA DE VRIES MAKES TOP 20 AT HUNSTANTON

Fiona De Vries (St Regulus) and Kathleen Sutherland (Royal Montrose) finished joint 15th and 26th respectively in the Senior British women's open amateur golf championship which ended on a wet and windy day at Hunstanton links on the Norfolk coast. Fiona De Vries shot 86, 78 and 79 for an 18-over-par total of 243 while Sutherland had rounds of 84, 80 and 84 for 248 over the testing par-75 course. The winner, making her debut in the over-50s championship at the age of 51, was Katherine Russell from Royal Ashdown Forest GC, Sussex - but she hit form too late to be include in the England team for the senior women's home internationals at Elie, Fife from October 2 to 4. Russell (79, 81, 74) beat Ireland's Pat Doran (81, 79, 74) at the second hole of a sudden-death play-off after they had tied on 234. It was the second year in a row that Doran had finished second.

LORRAINE CAMPBELL WINS CARDROSS CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

Lorraine Campbell won the Cardross Championship on the 1st September. She beat Maragret Stirling in the final.

She said " The nice thing about our championship was that two juniors did well. I beat Jillian Farrell (age 12) in the semi and Lori McDonald did well winning the Bronze championship. She is only 13. Both girls are now silver players and have been playing in our Greenlees team. They are going to be nice players."
