DARLING HOLDS LEAD HEADING INTO FINAL ROUND AT PARKSTONE

Hannah Darling (Broomieknowe) has taken the lead at the European Ladies' Amateur Championship.

 The Scottish player, who celebrated her 16th birthday last week, fired a bogey-free 68 (-4) in round three at Parkstone Golf Club to top the leaderboard on eight-under-par.

"I enjoyed it out there a lot. I just stuck to my processes, I had no idea where I was on the leaderboad" said Darling. "Obviously it's a big tournament but it's still the same golf course. There's no pressure on me to be honest, I'm only 16, so I'm just going to enjoy it tomorrow and see what happens in the end."

Darling, the second youngest player in the 144-player field, will have a chance to become the first ever Scottish player to win the European Ladies' Amateur Championship on Saturday. Victory would also qualify her for the AIG Women's British Open to be held at Woburn next week.

France's Chloé Salort shot the lowest round of the day. The French player made four birdies and an eagle on her way to shooting a five-under-par 67. Two birdies in the last four holes earned Salort a place in the final pairing just three shots behind.

Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open set for bumper weekend of entertainment

North Berwick, 22 July, 2019 – The Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open has announced the introduction of two themed days for the weekend to add to the fun at The Renaissance Club from August 8 to 11.

The tournament, co-sanctioned by the LPGA and Ladies European Tour, makes its debut at The Renaissance Club just three weeks after the men and is set to feature world-class talent including defending champion and major winner Ariya Jutanugarn, as well as Jeongeun Lee6, So Yeon Ryu, Georgia Hall, Charley Hull and Scotland’s very own Team Europe Solheim Cup captain, Catriona Matthew. 

Ladies Day, which will take place on Saturday 10^th August, is new for 2019 and gives all women that attend the chance to not only watch the golf but take part in a golf clinic with European Tour coach Gary Nicol and enjoy live music from former Westlife star Brian McFadden and upcoming Scottish artist Hugh Kelly.

No golfing experience is required and welcome drinks will be served to all attendees on arrival as well as a free shuttle service being in operation from North Berwick Train Station to the golf course. 

Participants will also be able to enjoy cocktail making masterclass sessions supported by Loch Lomond Distillery, relax with a complimentary neck and shoulder massage courtesy of The Macdonald Marine Hotel and witness a special guest Q&A in the public village hosted by TV personality, Emma Dodds with popstar Brian McFadden amongst other stars from the event. 

Speaking about the initiative, Martin Gilbert, Chairman of Aberdeen Standard Investments, said, “The Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open is committed to showcasing this special event to as many new audiences as possible. In addition to Ladies Day, Solheim Cup Sunday is also new to the 2019 tournament. In support of the Solheim Cup, which takes place at nearby Gleneagles from 9 – 15 September 2019, fans are encouraged to get behind the tournament by wearing Team Europe or Team USA colours to pledge their support of their favourite team in the biennial contest. 

The best-dressed fan will receive a special Solheim Cup pin flag signed by all the European Team and there will be on the spot prizes for those that have made the effort.

Another special guest Q&A will take place in the spectator village with a number of Solheim Cup stars, giving fans the opportunity to ask what it is like to be part of one of the world’s greatest golf events. 

The Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open is the last qualifying event for Team Europe ahead of final selection announcement on Monday 12^th August as well being the penultimate qualifying event for Team USA. With plenty of last minute qualifying points on offer, it is all to play for.

Katy Alexander wins the Scottish Girls Championship

Home-favourite Katy Alexander was crowned the winner of the 2019 Scottish Girls’ Amateur Championship today at the Blairgowrie Rosemount Course.

Alexander put in a flawless display in the final against Loretto’s Eilidh Henderson, making 14 pars and two birdies on her way to a 3&2 victory.

Henderson herself had four birdies during the round but five bogeys meant Alexander’s solid performance would see her lift the trophy.

Alexander moved to 3-up after a brilliant up and down at the 13thand followed that up with a birdie at 14, and then two pars at 15 and 16 to seal the victory.

Speaking to Scottish Golf after her win, a delighted Alexander said, “The final was a close game, it could have gone either way. 

“It feels really good to get the win and just makes it even better that it’s my home course. There was a lot of support from the members today which was really nice.”   

In the morning’s semi-finals, Alexander raced to a 5-up lead after seven holes, but an inspired fightback by Freya Russell saw the match level standing on the 14thtee. However, the eventual winner regrouped and edged her nose back in front before closing out the match with a par on 17 to win 2&1.

In the other semi-final, Henderson reached the final with a 6&5 victory over Prestwick’s Rachel Foster, largely thanks to four birdies in the space of five holes from the 9thonwards.

In the net matchplay, it was Craigmillar Park’s Lucy Morrison who came out on top with a 1-up victory over Royal Waterloo’s Grace Evans.

Morrison had earlier reached the final with an impressive 5&4 win over Strathmore’s Kirsten Miller while Evans defeated Taylor White of Cathkin Braes.

Scottish Girls Championship Matchplay Results

16 became four in the Scottish Girls’ Amateur Championship at the Blairgowrie Rosemount Course as the matchplay stages got underway today. 

 In the morning’s last-16 ties, three of the top-four seeds, who had finished tied on one-under after the strokeplay, made it safely through to the last-eight. 

Aboyne’s Carmen Griffiths and Blairgowrie’s Katy Alexander both won comfortably while Prestwick’s Rachel Foster progressed in tense fashion, winning at the first extra hole against Ellen Caton of St Regulus. However, Lundin’s Evanna Hynd, who entered the matchplay as fourth seed, was beaten 4&3 by Royal Troon’s Freya Russell. 

 In the afternoon’s quarter final ties, Katy Alexander was the big winner with a storming 7& 5 victory over West Kilbride’s Claire McLaughlin. 

 Speaking to Scottish Golf after reaching the semi-finals, the delighted Blairgowrie member said, “I’m very happy. I think it was my putting that really helped me today, especially as the greens were quite fast. “I’m really looking forward to tomorrow, I’ll just take it one game at a time and enjoy myself.”

Elsewhere, Freya Russell edged out Burntisland’s Porscha Wilson on the 18th, while Rachel Foster came out on top with a 5&3 win over Cameron Neilson. In the final tie of the quarter finals, 6th seed Eilidh Henderson of Loretto defeated Carmen Griffiths who had entered the week as the highest ranked player in the field. 

Tomorrow morning’s Semi Finals will see Katy Alexander taking on Freya Russell and Eilidh Henderson up against Rachel Foster. The Final of the Scottish Girls’ Amateur Championship will then take place tomorrow afternoon over 18 holes.

Evanna has had a brilliant few weeks.  She was leading after the first round at The Scottish Girls with 1 under par, then with a par second round she was tied first along with Katy Alexander, Rachel Foster and Carmen Griffiths.

Also this week, Evanna has won the double at the East of Scotland girls championship.   She won the Stephen Gallagher Trophy last Tuesday for best scratch score and top qualifier, then 3 days ago she played in the Championship match-play final, where she won 3 and 2 against fellow Scottish Academy player Eilidh Henderson.  

In between winning the two trophies, Evanna travelled to Duff House Royal for the Junior Tour last weekend and won the girls section by 1 shot, with Eilidh Henderson and Katie Alexander tied for 2nd place and Anna McKay joint 4th along with Carmen Griffiths.

Four way tie in Scottish Girls Qualifier

Day One of the Scottish Girls’ Amateur Championship ended in a four way-tie at the top of the 36-hole strokeplay qualifying in excellent conditions at Blairgowrie’s Rosemount Course.

Blairgowrie’s own Katy Alexander was the first to post a one-under total for her two rounds after a stunning second round of four-under par that will see her enter the matchplay as top seed.

Alexander was soon joined by Aboyne’s Carmen Griffiths who added a second round of one-under after posting level par in the morning.

Speaking to Scottish Golf after her round, Griffiths said, “I feel really good actually, I played pretty solid.  I definitely missed a few putts so hopefully those will drop tomorrow.

“I quite enjoy match play because you get to put pressure on your opponents and you get to see how they react to that.”

Griffiths was joined on one-under by Prestwick’s Rachel Foster who will progress to the matchplay stages tomorrow as second seed behind Alexander.

The final player to post a one-under total, Lundin’s Evanna Hynd, did so with a stunning back nine of four-under which included five birdies as she posted a second round of 73, one-under.

Grabbing the last spot in the matchplay stages was Castle Douglas’s Ailsa Brannock who’s excellent second round of level par saw her move up 15 spots into 16th after a morning round of nine-over.

The tournament will now move into the match play stages, with the top-16 scratch scores progressing, and the next 16 best nett scores qualifying for the handicap knockout competition.

Tomorrow will see the last-16 and quarter final ties played before the final rounds take place on Sunday.

Evanna Hynd wins the East of Scotland Girls Championship

The final of this year's East of Scotland Girls' Championship, which was postponed last Tuesday due to heavy rain, was played today at Dunnikier Park Golf Club. 

Congratulations to Evanna Hynd, Lundin Golf Club, who beat Eilidh Henderson, Loretto School, by 4 & 3 and became this year's East of Scotland's Girls' Champion. 

Well done to both girls who played great golf over the three days and contested the final in the best of spirits.

Scottish Girls and Boys Amateur Championship begins on Friday

Almost 200 young Scots will tee it up in Perthshire this week as the Scottish Boys and Girls Amateur Championships get underway at Blairgowrie.

The Girls’ Amateur Championship will be held on Blairgowrie’s Rosemount course.  The format for this event will be an initial 36 holes of strokeplay qualifying held on Friday 19th July before the top 16 progress to the knockout stages held over the weekend.  The next best 16 nett scores will also qualify for a handicap matchplay flight held over the same days.

The highest ranked player in this week’s Girls’ Amateur will be Aboyne’s Carmen Griffiths who will be looking to win the trophy for the first time.  Griffiths was a member of the Junior Vagliano team in June and will look to take inspiration from her Aboyne clubmate Kimberly Beveridge’s recent triumph in the Scottish Women’s Amateur.

Home hopes will lie with Katy Alexander who recently made it to the last-16 of the Scottish Women’s Amateur at Edzell.

Prestwick St Nicholas’s Rachel Foster will also be hoping for a good week after reaching the quarter final stage of the Women’s Amateur last month.

Scotland Girls play in the first Junior Invitational and win

Last  week a team of Girls (pictured above) played in their first Junior Invitational against other girls of similar ages from high schools in different states....Tennessee, Florida, and others. 

Scotland were asked to put together 10 Girls to make 2 teams and compete with 1 single match and two 4 ball better ball per team. 

On Day 1 Scotland combined teams won 5.5 out of 6 catapulting both teams into semi finals the following day! 

Again 2 out of 3 points for both teams saw a Scotland 1 v Scotland 2 final which was great. 

The final was played in great spirits and good golf to boot! 
Scotland 1 managed a 3 nil victory over the second team but all matches were close! 

A great few days of making friends from across the water and working together as a squad. 

Wonderful to see girls perform so well and I was most definitely a happy proud Scottish Girls Coach with the performances and attitudes they showed.

England’s Rachel Goodall maintained her lead at the Ribiera Sacra Partimonio de la Humanidad International Ladies Open in Spain to claim a two-shot victory over Italy’s Lucrezia Colombotto Rozzo. 

The duo, playing together in the final pairing, both posted –2 rounds of 68 allowing Goodall to hold on for a two-shot win on –11 for the tournament.

SCOTLAND PIPPED BY ENGLAND AND HAZEL MACGARVIE HAS ANOTHER HOLE IN ONE

European Ladies' Team  Sweden have won the 2019 European Ladies' Team Championship at Is Molas Resort.

The Swedish team defeated Spain in the final to secure back-to-back titles. After winning both of the morning foursomes matches, the Swedish team needed just two points from the afternoon singles to lift the trophy for the ninth time. 

In the match for third place, hosts, Italy, defeated Germany to take home the bronze medals.

Scotland lost 3-2 to England on the final days play  and finished 6th overall in the European Team Championships. Hazel Macgarvie had a hole in one -- another one just 2 weeks after having an Ace at the the Vagliano Trophy  - Ireland were 7th and Denmark 8th

They played their hearts out for Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 It was tough , we had highs and we had lows and battled some extreme heat!!! 4th in strokeplay qualifying and 6th overall and a wee hole in one today for Big Hazel 🤣🤣...... a wonderful effort!!!” 

Scotland beat Ireland in the European Team Championships

The fourth day of action and the second day of match play has been completed at the European Team Championships across the continent. It is now known who will face-off in saturday's finals. 

Spain and Sweden will both have two chances at securing gold medals on the last day of action: the Swedes have teams in both the men's and ladies' finals, while the Spanish ladies' and girls' teams both made the finals of their events. 

Spain were the first team to qualify for Saturday's final at Is Molas Resort on Friday, upsetting the hosts, and the top-qualifiers, in the semi-finals. The morning session was dominated by the Spaniards, winning both foursomes matches by the 16th hole. 

The Italian team fought back in the afternoon however: Alessia Nobilio, Alessandra Fanali, and Letizia Bagnoli all won their matches by three holes, giving the Italians a 3-2 advantage. But Ana Pelaez maintained a comfortable lead over Clara manzilini for Spain to put a third point on the board, and Elena Hualde closed out her match on the 17th hole to earn the Spaniards a spot in the final.

The Spanish team, searching for their sixth championship title, will face defending champions, Sweden in Saturday's final match.
