Two Hazlehead Golf Club members won the main trophies on finals day at the North of Scotland women's golf championship at Kirriemuir Golf Club today.
Jasmine Mackintosh, the leading qualifier, beat Sammy Leslie (Murcar Links) 3 and 2 in the scratch final to win the Gifford Trophy.
Rachel Mathieson beat Dawn Darling (Kirriemuir) by one hole in the handicap final to earn the Angus Salver.
When last did one club have the winners of both scratch and handicap in the North of Scotland championship? Lynne Terry (Cruden Bay) has the answer:
"It must have been around 20 years ago or so but I seem to remember at Nairn Dunbar Jill Harrison won the scratch and I won the handicap. You may need to ask Jasmine and Rachael to look at the engraving on the trophies to check!"
The scratch final at Kirriemuir was a quality match with Jasmine birdieing seven holes (third, fourth, sixth, seventh, ninth, 11th and 12th) while Sammy birdied five holes (sixth, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th)
Leslie was six down at the ninth where Mackintosh almost holed her second shot from 140yd. Her ball hit the flagstick.
Sammy holed a 30ft putt at 10 for birdie. Then she had four birdies in a row to try to pull it back but, in Sammy's words: "Jasmine's putting was awesome."
Hard luck, Sammy! Five birdies in the North of Scotland final would normally win it.
